Good video.Weber said I can't have the hinge model because I am in Canada. So now need to return cover and charcoal starter cancelled order of BBQ when realized was 4 year old model.
@@LegendV12 Here a little tip. This video is a little miss leading or he made a mistake when he said he has a Master touch and the new Master Touch Premium. But his model is the Kettle original Premium. Not a Master Touch. They have 2 Master-Touch models and they are both the same height. One has a hinge, one doesn't. Take my advice... The Kettle MT NOT premium is the one you want.. This model with the hinge is a mistake. It will never seal properly. Also, the only advantage is that it comes with a Charcoal Barrel and Diffuser plate. It's NOT worth that much. Get the regular Master-Touch, with the lid support. Better clearance and 2 level grate, also has the P vents. And it smokes perfectly fine. If you want to get serious into smoking with it. You can buy an aftermarket charcoal barrel and diffuser plate. I have a Kettle MT with a onlyfire Santa-Maria Style Grill Rotisserie System and it rocks. I made my own charcoal barrel and diffuser plate out of 1/4 steel when I need to smoke.....A Kettle MC is 289$ Cdn right now... and premium is 429$!! makes no sense to pay that much for a awkward hinge and diffuser plate.
Yes I actuay be bought master touch $289 plus tax in Canada and returned it before arrived as Hudson Bay had sale do $99 crazy deal. I already bought cover and charcoal starter. I missed the deal as it didn't go through when finalizing. I agree no lid holder seems better than hinge. 👍🏻
Isn't it important to keep your top vent above your food as the charcoal burns around the kettle and you rotate your grates? Something you can't do with the hinge.
i think the position does have some effect on the food. I wish it would have been placed on the top in the center, similar to the green egg, or the weber summit
The hinge would be better placed at the back in alignment to the triangle of the legs rather than off to the side. The thermometer should be just below the top vent not at the opposite side above where the coals are. So that you have a better reading of the indirect temperature while smoking & how far to open the vent to control the heat.
so, I had weber send another hinge to be sure, and it is the same as the one I have on there. so... they seem to think it is correct. but, i have seen these videos as well and I might try the spring switch. I would have done it by now, but I really do not want to lose a finger, lol
Did Weber ever reach out to you in regards to the lid not sealing properly? I am thinking about buying myself a Christmas present but not if there are issues. Thanks
So, they did. They sent me a new lid. The previous lid was a little "out of round" so they sent me a 2nd. Also they sent me a 2nd hinge. However, those really did not change anything. I think I will have to reverse the springs as others have done to get it to work better. I have a hard time understanding why weber has not picked up on this fix, if it is actually worth while. You would think that would be an easy thing to implement. But, I have not tried it yet, so I cannot speak to it. I am going to use it as a grill, so I am not torn up about it. If you want to use it more as a smoker, then I think it's an issue.
yes, you could do that. the problem is that it does not have the standard handle on the top, so the lid is super awkward to handle if the hinge is not being used
not great for me. I had to mess with the hinge and flip the springs around to get it to work OK. I heard they fixed this in later models... but not cool Weber!
I have a question. I bought two days ago smart touch premium. And the top vent feels too soft and not tight. When I open the grill lid the vent falls and I have to put it back to the desired level. It is something normal that it is like that or there is a certain problem. I would be happy to help
I"m still a charcoal fire guy in my heart. It just makes me happy. I like the rec tec lineup and they work great... I just love the flavor from a charcoal smoker.
thanks... I think it will be fine in the long run, but it would be nice if it just sealed up nice right away. the classics are always good... should have just went with a 26"
The Premium edition just looks all wrong......??! At 1:34 - the lid handle (the uppermost bowl) has not been designed to sit directly above the handle of the lowermost bowl so the whole bbq just looks out of symmetry??! Why has it been designed like this??
you have to search for it to find it on the weber site... if you google weber kettle master touch premium you will find... www.weber.com/US/en/grills/charcoal-grills/master-touch-series/17301001.html
G&GFactoryMade hmm? The Weber Red Kettle is made in china. Weber hit with lawsuit about the made in USA on every box. Seems like they are building more in communist china these days. Sad.

I am as subscriber and really enjoy your videos which I find both very informative and even handed. And the production quality ain't too shabby either. The Weber kettles are embarrassingly flimsy. That hinge looks like it will have a half life of about 3 months and from your demo it appears the wind can easily blow it shut at exactly the wrong moment. After all these years owners have been asking for a hinge and the damn thing doesn't even close properly? A good drum smoker like the Bronco I bought 2 years ago costs the same or less ($299, delivered from maker and often much cheaper on sale at a big box). It will smoke 9 racks of ribs at once, hold 225 for 12 hours, direct grill on 2 different levels and has precise temperature control without buying a single additional accessory. To get an idea of the build quality, it weighs almost 140 pounds and rolls easily on 10 inch wheels made of solid steel. I have been grilling for over 50 years (we like our food really well done 😀) and have owned (in the 80's?) and enjoyed a Weber kettle. I've also had 5 kamados over the last 20 years. Currently it's a Big Joe and I have a Weber gas grill as well. The reality is that 9 times out of 10 I use the Bronco. If your time and budget allow I think you might do your viewers a great service by doing both first-use and 6-month follow up reviews. Thanks.
Thanks for the input... sincerely! I would love to do more follow up reviews 6 months later. Especially on something like this hinge setup and its durability. I have looked at the bronco, and it looks like a great value. I have a Pit Barrel Cooker, so I have not purchased other drum smokers yet. The main thing I love about the kettle grills is the ease of use and cleanup and I do think their performance is strong for the cost of the grill. I will keep the bronco in mind. Perhaps I can get them to send me one? Worth a shot. Thanks for watching and the feedback
@@Searedandsmoked and thank you for your even-handed response. I should have added that the Bronco uses a pan-and-basket assembly that makes shaking out the coals and dumping the ashes a 1 minute operation. As with any product it is the "actually living with it factor" that always tells the story. One just can't anticipate the all the issues (and benefits) After 2 years of intensive use the only improvement I've been able to come up with is a sloped "collar" that closes the gap between the charcoal basket and the interior wall . I made one from an 18" wok lid and it allows me to refuel with lump without even lifting the basket.
FYI... I did get a bronco pro sent to me recently... so there will be some videos coming out soon with a review and some cooks! Pretty nice setup I must agree
The hinge looks clunky and could cause more problems than it solves. I would much rather have this grill without the hinge! Heck, I can always toss the lid onto the grass.
If I were to spend the money again... I would get the 26" kettle with the lid holder... not the most sturdy grill out there, but I still do enjoy the hinge
I have it working a little better these days with a modification... but they should be embarrassed of the hinge quality and the overall lack of sturdiness
I would not want it if the lid cannot go to a full 90 degree upright. And I will NEVER understand how people can get so anal about a little smoke leaking out around the lid. 99% out the vent, 1% from under the lid. Really??
the lid leaking is not a big deal if you want to run at higher temps... if you are trying to go low and slow... it'll kill the cook as the temperature will not be able to stay low
Good video.Weber said I can't have the hinge model because I am in Canada. So now need to return cover and charcoal starter cancelled order of BBQ when realized was 4 year old model.
yeah... I never understand their product roll outs. I think the hinged model was available in Europe before the U.S. too .... frustrating no doubt!

Great review of the new Weber Kettle! Looking forward to your thoughts after your first cook/smoke.
Thanks... I will definitely be working on some more kettle videos!
The gasket is a must for this grill. I love it. Nice vid

They definitely F'd this model up in a few ways. Curious if they give it another shot anytime soon?
Where did you buy it ? I didn't see it on Amazon
I think Weber stopped selling them... too much negative feedback
you can move the springs see other videos on youtube that solution works

Can you use it without connecting the hinge for smoking, so the lid fits down better?
yes, you could do that. the problem is that it does not have the standard handle on the top, so the lid is super awkward to handle if the hinge is not being used
Where can this be purchased in the USA?
I ordered through their website... but looks like it may have been discontinued from the U.S. ?? I cannot find it now

i agree.. it constantly messes with you when you first use it... want to grab the wrong handle all the time.
I wouldn't worry about the lid leaking smoke. If it's excessive, close the lid vent all the way and let it roll.
good thought. I still have it, but don't use it too much... but i'll give that a shot next time
Where did you get this girl?
I ordered it through Weber's website. I have not seen them in stores, but pretty sure they are still available online
@@Searedandsmoked I just bought the masters series. The one without the hing.
Can you fit the smoke ring and baffle in the old master touch? I think that is the only upgrade I’m looking for.
yes, the charcoal ring and baffle above it can fit in any of the kettles. no issues there
Great information. But think I will save for Weber Komodo
