Great vid. We head up that way every summer. Just take your time. You can get a boat into dozens of lakes and rivers along the way and camp where ever you want. Should be on everyones bucket list but most want a paved road and flush toilet, poor them lol.
that's a hell of a trip guys! my friends and i are camping at MacKay lake this june (shown at 1:36). i've always wanted to see whats further up the road. good tunes too. i saw John Wort Hannam at Pembins River Nights in 2013. Hus is next on the list.
The green bridge is the farthest north I’ve been in Saskatchewan. I hope to cycle this next year. Unless the border opens up, then I will cycle the Colorado Trail.
Thanks for the nice words. Always appreciated. If I redid the video I would have liked to throw on some voice over instead of music. Give some mile notes and the like. So hard to find information on that road and the condition. Beautiful and worthwhile trip though.
North of la ronge the next fuel is missinipee then Brabant. About 100ish km between iirc. Next stop if you need to is south end but we didn't stop there. There is a gas station about 1/2 to 2/3 the way to points north (maybe 200-250) but I can't remember the name. Mile something something. From there points north and then Stony Rapids(200km). We brought a small jerry but didn't need it. If you can go 300 there will be a stop. Best bring fuel though as they run out at weird and random intervals.
I always want to record a video of athabasca road. Good to see the video of that long road trip. 10 hours drive for us from Black Lake to Prince Albert.
Nice job guys - both the driving and the video. If I were to drive roughly north from my home in Denver, Stony Rapids, SK appears to be the furthest north I could get in my 4wd Toyota FJ Cruiser with heavy-duty tires. I wonder if you saw any 4wd pickups, etc. that were making the trip.
Hey Will this is Scott, I was on the KLR. We didn't see any 4wds making the trip for fun that I can recall but saw plenty of work trucks. In the camp site just south of Points North there were a few trucks parked who's owners I assumed were out canoeing or something because it didn't look like they were set up there to camp. For a good read try googling 'Ford Raptor Stony Rapids'. It's an article in which Car and Driver takes the Raptor on this same road as a test drive. It's well written and illustrates nicely what you can expect to see. Cheers!
Hi Scott, Thanks for the reply! I had read the article in Car and Driver and it sounds like at least one stretch of the road could be very challenging for a stock 4WD. In your video, I see lots of silt or fine powdery sand on the road surface which could turn to "snot" with heavy rains. Hmmmmm.
now this is true native land & town. every lake you see on here you can drink from & hunt & fish. near the cross road.the rez is on the right call black lake & stony rapids on the left. stony rapids is kinda mix between rez & off rez stony lake is rez but stony rapids is not.man i miss home now lol.expensive to live up there tho.lots of people still live by the old ways there living off the land.for us south starts at La Ronge. that's why most of us laugh when they say northern Saskatchewan & mostly show La Ronge but this is the true northern Saskatchewan.it's suppose to be a secret hidden gem now people will know of it lol jk. great video.BTW think this is bad try going up there in spring when the snow melts. lol
Hey! Just drove this road to Stony Rapids this past week. We started driving from La Ronge probably around 8 or 9 am and had no trouble getting gas the entire way. Brought extra fuel and didn't end up using it. I would suggest bringing some anyways just in case. We couldn't really go faster than 60 most of the way up to Points North and no more than 40 after that so our fuel didn't burn very quickly. We asked the Ministry of Transportation in La Ronge and they had info on what miles the gas stations were at. Hope that helps, and good luck!
There were a few lakes with ramps scattered along the road. Enough that you wouldn’t have to go far to find one but unfortunately I didn’t keep notes on that. Great fishing up there
Thanks Mick. I hear you on the music. I was working through finding free to use music because I had been having a fight with TH-cam that kept ending up with copyright claims against non copyright music. Ended up just not using any music from that point forward and just narrating. Whole system is pretty broken. If someone claims copyright,m you really can’t fight it.

Excellent video Daniel. Some annotations would be great so that we knew where you were along the way. Great stuff!
A truly grand adventure, glad I was part of it! Thanks for sifting through all that footage Daniel!

The best part of the road is from Points North to Stony Rapids. Will be tough by bike because of the silt but worth it.

Nice. Didn't see so many trucks on the points to stony section but everyone was nice to us
Best looking semi on the road lol. I still remember passing you guys cause motorbike are not really a normal sight up there!
You were the truck driver!? That's awesome! We should have gotten a picture with you guys in Points North!
Ruutzy my dad works on the road tomorrow he’s bringing me cuz I’m lonely

Awesome! Could you possibly list places where gas is available north of La Ronge? What's the longest stretch without gas?

Sorry, I assume you were asking because you plan on motorbiking up there, we were in an SUV. Just thought I'd clarify :)
Did most of the lakes along the main road have boat launches even in the far north?

Thanks! Awesome video and I’m making the trip this summer
Excellent video except for the preachy annoying music.

I liked the music! Great video BTW. Pretty much the best way to see Highway 905 on TH-cam.
Now, that I’ve had a good explanation of the music I fully understand. I now don’t mind the music.
