Justin, you should cover the new Extreme single/video... Only to watch your reaction to the Nuno's solo... I am very happy to know that i will see The Darkness in Spain in June, and there are lot of possibilities that Extreme act the same day than you even thought the organizer of the Festival still gave information...i know your day because of your web site!
approach sry cant spell english
Justin, I think you would like this group called Uncle Reno. They are a local band where I live but have a really cool sound.
Sounds like another Daughtry to me which means......2-4 months (or weeks) nobody will remember him.
That melody sounds like the little poem we used to say as kids..."there's a place in France, where the naked ladies dance, there's a hole in the wall, where the boys can see it all".
Yeah! There was a Looney Tunes episode where the sang that. "There's a place in France where the ladies wear no pants." Brilliantly inappropriate.
'Round these parts there was a retort that circulated, too - "But the ladies don't care 'cause they're in their underwear & the men go around with their dinghies hangin' down."
Definitely that😂
Also apparently known as 'Arabian Riff' - the Wikipedia article is a mildly amusing rabbit hole. 😂
Also appears in the old tune "Istanbul not Constantinople"
Your reactions make listening to songs like these infinitely more interesting and enjoyable!
Its a song from 1850’s called Arabian Riff. Its been reused so many times in so many films and songs
The spider part is ‘There’s a place in France where the naked ladies dance’ song 😂
Kesha
It has some great elements, but the chorus and the vocal in some places seem like he tries too hard.
I noticed that too
@@therealfonzieyeah kesha - take it off. Exact same melody.
When that chorus kicked in it gave me Eurovision vibes....
Haha you're right! I couldn't put my finger on it, but yes! It sounds like the entry from Moldova, or somewhere.
Honestly Justin, I love seeing where your brain goes in your reactions…the music prompts some “tangental meanderings” from you that are gold! Today’s pondering: Where will my chin go?😂
Well edited Jenny, love it👏🏻
I once saw The Darkness headline Y Not Festival in 2013 & It was like what i imagine watching The Stones or Thin Lizzy back in the day.
You Guys Were Awesome even though it was really windy and it rained allot and a few bands that year had to either cancel or shorten there set but The Darkness soldiered on like a spandex weatherballoon
Also the song gives me WWE wrestling entrance music vibes
I think it’s because it sounds like Animal I have Become by Three Days Grace, which was used a lot in the Smackdown vs Raw 2007 video game
Not my thing: When someone sings, you want singers to mean it. He does not sound like means it.
Not really my vocal style either, but he’s definitely at least putting effort into it.
Yeah man! If theirs one thing he IS doing? Is putting his all into this(and..all kinda other singles /Videos ) that are in the millions of veiws.
Sounds like a pop song. The voice sounds dead. It's bad.
I’ve been saying this about a lot of music for years, but people couple care less about that
According to the nonfiction book "Devil in the White City", That snake charmer riff was made up on the spot when the belly dancers arrived for the Chicago world's fair (1893) with no musicians or sheet music.
Cheers for that, might just look it up!
One of my favorite authors!
01:36...😂😂😂 brilliant!👏👏👏 I really never get tired of that joke🤣
it’s in the top jokes list along with “enough about my sex life”😂
"There's a place in France where the naked ladies dance."
That's the chorus. It's something we sang when we were kids. I think it's lame.
Where I lived, it was, in the land of France, where the ladies wear no pants
And the men wear glasses to see the ladies Asses??
All the girls in France
They don’t wear no underpants
When they climb a pole
You can see their hiney-hole.
Justin Biber and Nickelback had a baby?
Oh... it was stillborn. Rest in peace, little one 🪦😔
Love Justin's honest and decisive reaction to the 'spidery bits'.
Hands up if you, like myself, believe Justin would portray a fantastic Igor in any Dracula reiteration, and wallets out if you work adjacent to the film industry and want to see it happen. Chin up, mate- we'll make a star of you yet!
He'd also make an excellent assistant to Dr Frankenstein
Unlike the southern river band, this I’d like to unhear…
our version was In the land of Mars where the ladies smoke cigars; every puff they take is enough to kill a snake; when the snake is dead they put diamonds i his head, when the diamonds break it is 1968!
Catching up after having been out of town, and this gave me some good laughs now 😀 I've been missing stuff. The editing, especially, was so funny in this one! 😂 The music... Well... He had great hair!
Obviously a fan of the band with that chorus. 😎
This is the tune of a childhood song about France and underpants. I get really excited about the future of music when I watch 14 yr old Taj Farrant's videos from his current tour in the US. He's already performed with Carlos Santana, Orianthi, Rob Thomas and others. He's come to the attention of Prince's music director Morris Hayes, who came to one of his shows and is highly recommending people to go see him. He recently met with Joe Bonamassa too. He had two songs debut at #1 on the iTunes blues charts. I'm happy to see someone who can really shred on the guitar and sing.
Exactly what I hear
Man, I finally found your channel bro, I'm so stoked right now 🤘
The melody of the chorus reminds me of something we used to sing in grade school at recess...All the ants in France do the hula-hula dance, and the dance they do is enough to kill a shrew, and the shrew they kill is enough to take a pill and the pill they take is enough to fry a snake....it goes on. All this animal cruelty, sheesh! I like the whole rest of this song, but this chorus me no like. I appreciate that he does all this himself. Social media is not all bad, or a waste of time. It can be a useful tool for discovering new music. Thanks for sharing this, Justin!
It’s the old snakecharmer melody
I started humming that familiar ditty same time as you. I decided that it sounded like music that the Russian male dancers bounce up down to while kicking out their legs with their arms crossed. I was curious and looked up more about him. Funny thing, he had a piece called "Why you should never sign with a record label." He mixes rap and rock and has a real sense of humor. Reminds me of an older artist I follow...
That’s the melody that children sang “there’s a place in France where the naked ladies dance…” to way back around 1980 when I was a little one
Not for me, but good to see some rock that appeals to more people
I think he is singing about when ‘The Darkness’ comes- in which case it needs some high pitch shrieking
Off topic: Saw my first Darkness concert here in Switzerland last Friday. Was really cool. Funny that i discovered the Darkness from the lick Library guitar lesson site who have a Learn to play the darkness dvd. Still stuck in a rut on the 3rd solo of i believe in a thing called love.
Eurovision vibes.
If I was 16 maybe I would love it, but one of the downsides of getting older is that I find it very derivative and could probably identify the theft / derivation / homage of every single riff & Melody, so I find it hard to enjoy
A question for comments day. I have a 1987 Kramer American Series Sustainer Guitar. The neck pickup was the one that did all sustaining and it is now dead. What is your neck pickup on your white Les Paul? Thanks. Great channel by the way.
Hi Justin, been a big fan of your work with darkness for years, idk if it's really your style but you should check out the soundtrack of Team Fortress 2, it's a near 2 decade old shooter that imo has some of the most diverse and downright well created music of its genre, hope you see this and wish you well!
You should check our Creeper. Started as a goth punk band, but their new release is very Meatloaf! Might be more up your alley.
Agree, Justin should listen to creeper
07:34 Being a huge Elvis fan, the first thing that popped into my head was "Adam And Evil" from the movie Spinout.
Can't get the back door of my house to shut! Have just come in, and it opened OK, but then when I went to close it -- it won't close. The doorframe seems to have dropped. Can't slam it because of the stain-glass! That's the only problem with really old houses, nothing straightforward. :0/
Wow each to their own, not one for me though. Nice one.
I really like your Abba t shirt
The auto tune is very distracting. The notes he is hitting shouldn't need auto tune to pitch so yeah.
Now you mention it, I was being distracted by it but hadn't realised what it was that was annoying me.
Hi Justin! First of all, I was in Nonantola for your show, I've waited that moment for 20 years and it was just biblical! With you rock and roll is safe!
Then, one question: I know that's not the important fact for you and your music, but if you could choose how to be remembered what would you prefer 1) a great singer 2) a great songwriter 3) a great guitarist ?
Thanks again for all of your music, and for your podcast! Rock and roll forever, Justin!
He's all three. A triple threat!
Justin,
I think I can answer the question, "Is This The Future Of Rock?" No. Justin Hawkins is!
The Darkness Forever! Thank you for all the great music over the years!
vgv
Justin have you heard of Red Leather. His story is awesome. He does covers but his own stuff is great!
7:36 I know it from Istanbul (Not Constantinople):
🎵 Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way 🎵
Actually that little familiar tune you sang, sounds just the same as ‘Istanbul not Constantinople’ by They Might Be Giants…the little bit in the middle to the words “Even Old New York was once New Amsterdam…” 🙂
Good day to you Justin... 489k.... almost there to 500k🤘🤘❤ cheers🍻
The last thing the world needed, another nickelback
Yes !!!
Eurovision quality metal.
The melody is known as "The Streets of Cairo," "The Arabian RIff" or "The Poor Little Country Maid"
I love you Justin, but I wish you would allow the videos play a little longer before you comment. Otherwise, its difficult get what the artist or band sounds like. PS - This sounds the type of commercial modern hard rock that I really dislike. Maybe "the kids" like it?
Yeah, I dunno what that riff is either but it was used on 'Mother, I've Killed the Cat' by Phillip and his Foetus Vibrations - a 1980's classic if ever I heard one
The chorus of the song is a rhyme we used to sing as kids “In the land of France where the ladies wear no pants and the men go around with their ******* hanging down!” 😂
Sorry but I was stuck with the ‘thumb with a head on it’ 😂 love where your mind takes us
Like a face drawn on a thumb lol. Comedy gold
The middle eastern riff is also the beginning of Steve Martin’s King Tut song. LOL
Long ago when I was in grade school, that melodic part, which is based on something old. We would sing, There’s a place on Mars where the women smoke cigars and a place in France where the women don’t wear pants and so on. So yes , I was 11 and was @1965. I guess it was originally a kinda snake charmer thing.
That’s what I call TikTok ‘n’ Roll
It’s good people are still making NüMetal, roofers and excons need something to listen to these days.
Not ad actually,I even like the changes! Makes me want to hear more!
I’ve found it. The chorus melody is very similar with Ke$ha’s “Take It Off”
one of the versions of the snake charmer music is
"There's a place called Mars
Where the women smoke cigars
And the men run around
With their pants upside down."
This is Justin Hawkins and this is Justin Hawkins right again
Hey man! Your exibition in Rome it was great! Rock on!
When are you coming to Scandinavia?
Gunk! I agree
Personally, I don't think I ever want to hear it again, but if it gets some of the younglings on the tiktok playing guitars, that's only ever a good thing.
Not if they're playing garbage like this it isn't
@@theironshiek Well you see, what happens is they learn the 12 notes and then when they grow up they can play them in a different order and make better music! 'Arabian Riff', which this is based on, turns up as a starter tune in many older music books for a reason.
Nice shirt, Justin!
The future of Rock is 8yr old Ryder B. He already has a drumstick hanging on the wall at the Rainbow, and played the Whisky on Nov 20th.
The melody you're thinking of is literally called 'The snake charmer song' or 'Arabian riff'.
I first heard it with the lyrics 'In the south of France where they do the hula dance'
He’s so cool I’m a big Jeris fan
Hi Justin. Saw you with my 11 year old son in Pratteln the other day and you guys were awesome, as expected. Been a fan since permission to land but never made to a gig. My daughter will be 10 next year so I hope you come back as she's well pissed off that she couldn't go as she loves your music. Pratteln is about 1hr 30.mins from us up in the Black Forest. Navi couldn't find its way out of the place 😂 . If you are ever up this way, pop round for a BBQ ( can do a veggie one also) and cup of tea. Keep up the good work, your podcasts are top class
How about reviewing bands that loose their front man or a band member but somehow manage to carry on. Like Kasabian recently....
Yeah Jeris Johnson - he's very cool. Nice hair. And his voice does sound like Nickelback. Great video too - especially the end with that flying bat.
When you asked about that melody it reminded me of Rasputin by Boney M. When I actually compare the two songs that melody is similar but neither of the songs sound the same.
As for chins - I think you'll be fine. I don't think you're going to go the flappy way or the thumb way, why not try some chin yoga - keep it in shape? 🤣🤣🤣
@quisil666 Maybe we should ask these people? th-cam.com/video/MRGxuYB3lJ8/w-d-xo.html
Sounds like a tune from Fiddler on the Roof !
I definitely respect the creativity and the effort that went into the song, but I can’t get behind all these artists putting generic trap beats in songs, nor can I get behind the seemingly rising trend of putting almost nursery rhyme melodies in songs.
The Beaches are the present, AND future of rock. Can’t believe they’ve been missed here ;)
'Wilson, Keppel and Betty' spring to mind 😫
Well when they do a new Adams Family live action movie this will be perfect
Haha great job on the outro Justin lol- hey that Melody thing they do is from an old children’s schoolyard limerick or something.. probably meant to hurt someone’s feelers - I probably sang the bit
LOL! Great reaction, thanks!
If this is the future of rock we are screwed.
It can't be the future of rock since it's not rock. It's more like... electronic dance pop with rock influences or something crap like that.
In case it wasn’t obvious already we’ve been screwed for a while now… still this is a special kind of bler
Feckin horrrrrrible
Lololol
Not sure if this is a troll log but tf you all smoking? 😂😂
Not my jam,but cool to see something gaining traction in the rock realm.
Oo lala Justin! ESQUIRE magazine. Pretty kwel. Thing Called Love. We love ya.❤️🌎👍🏿
Fab t-shirt Justin!
I love your Nigel Tufnel impression at the end of this review.
7:22 It sounds like a VERY OLD (when everything was black and white ) song sang in the the UK school playgrounds which went:
The girls in Spain Wash their knickers in Champagne
And the boys in France Do the hula-hula dance
This sounds insane but it is the truth :)
Nickleback with a touch of Corey Feldman
"Scary Halloween Nickelback hair " music...😂🕷🕸👻
Hello mr Justin thanks for the video!
Come back the comeback king !
Well, that was a song.
Justin, it’s familiar because there’s a song that kids used to sing back in the day. There’s a place on mars where the women smoke cigars and the men wear bikinis and the children drink martinis.
HEY! Leave my shin out of it! 😂😂😂😂😂
I've done the rough maths, Andrew W K and nickleback may have had sex in the late 90s leading to what we're experiencing here
I like it! And the chorus you never expected too 😂
I think it is based in some popular melody...
Yes!
Guitarist and drummer are great, music wasn't bad until they went all weird and keyboardy, I thought I was in some weird Tim Burton world for a sec. I have to say, I love it when you grab the guitar in every video, my husband does the same thing everytime he watches music videos on youtube, brilliant stuff. :)
man cool! just saw this dude on an IG ad a couple of days ago and here he is on fuckîng Justin Hawkins' right on
THERES A PLACE IN FRANCE WHERE THE NAKED LADIES DANCE!!! TRHATS WHERE ITS FROM
If Tom Waits did Rock-Metal! 😂
Seriously though, the familiar part reminds me of his song ‘Underground’. There’s also a hint of Sans and Papyrus’ ‘To The Bone’ song as well as a heavy Nickleback influence. Gotta say, I kinda love it! 😅 If nothing else, it’s catchy AF.
Skrizzly Adams is the future of rock! Like a high-pressure caldera ready to explode all over the world, there's nothing you can do but fall in love with rock n roll all over again when this man hits the airwaves.
I don't know if there was a version in English or American schools... But... Back in the 80s, in Scottish schools, we sang a song with the opening lyric, Does yer ma drink wine? Does she drink it awe the time? Does she get a funny feeling when her f**ny hits the ceiling... (Occasionally belly, if there was a teacher nearby). It was sung to that melody, exactly the melody you were humming, saying there was something familiar about it.
I couldn't take the song or video seriously at all, partly because that was the song that popped into my head (I was sure you were going to sing it), partly because of the complete, unoriginality of the entire thing.
That's a "miss" for me.
