Great lesson! A good tip for learning a new technique is to remember "slow is smooth, smooth is fast". Speed sorta shows up all by itself if you practice going slow while focusing on being smooth.
Excellent lesson, thank you very much. In my personal case, the double thumb technique is of little practical use. I see it as an exotic discipline. It's awesome that some people can do it, but it would take me too much time to master it myself.
It’s OK but my thumb was in agony when playing it. Been REALLY out of slap practice this year so the callus and thumb strength is really low. I would usually play it with a lot more consistency of tone and much faster. Had to slow down to allow for the lack of snap.
My two favs! Different styles of teaching/presentation but both great! Mark’s videos are indeed more efficient and information packed. Scott, however, tends to be more conversational and actually interviews influential bass players (like Victor Wooten) as well as discussing equipment such as the differences between various bass guitars. Love them both!
It’s edu-tainment. It’s not entirely meant to educate and not entirely to entertain, there’s a mixture of both that works for different people so no need to judge.
You are such a great teacher. Have you checked out the insane Franck Hermanny? He’ll do all of the “techniques” in one solo. He is unbelievable. Thanks Mate!
You have to use both right and left hand simultaneously to prevent the strings from vibrating. Usually I rest my right hand ring and pinky finger over the strings I am not playing while resting my left hand fingers I am not using to mute the other strings. It’s something you have to practice consciously at first. Eventually you’ll do it without thinking about it
Hello 👋🏿 I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE DAVE MATTHEW'S BAND #41 VICTOR WOOTEN BASS SOLO I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOUR APPROACH TO ATTACKING THE SOLO 👍🏿🥂👑🦍👑✊🏿☝🏿✌🏿💯🙏🏿💯
I've just got into the double thumb technique and the way I've found comfortable doesn't have the nail involved. For me, the point of contact of the thumb is just in front of the middle joint of the thumb (approximately 8-10mm lower than the base of my thumbnail). However, I have hands like a shovel full of bananas so this may differ for other people. Also, I run a very low action on my basses (all long-scale btw) so they're "prone" to slapping the strings onto the fretboard perhaps a little easier than an instrument with a higher action or shorter scale). Hope this helps, as I say, I've only been doing this just under a year myself so it's new Territory for me too. Good luck, it's fun to practice this technique

This video is underrated only 15k views!?
What can i do about the strings ringing? I can't really play the G Major scale at the end without the D string ringing at the same time

I always heard Charles Bertough play this technique. I didn’t know victor had a song with this Technique in It😭
All those techniques you see Charles (and a million other bassists) use are copied from Victor.
I still hate playing like this, especially since the ineviatble, ''Play Free Bird!'' will never need this technique.

Bro my thumb is swollen 😭
You can’t hold no groove please
Doesn't this shave off your thumb nail???
