that's a great masterclass. the only thing i want to point is that you kinda analyzed notes in an awkward way at 2:45 and up. the simplest way to think about this tune is in way of classical harmony. It's just like G | C | Dsus4 D7 | G and when you go to C chord it's 1-5-8-7 of subdominant chord (C) rather then 4-1-4-3-4 as you said. Thanks for you inspiration!
@@fridayafternextfamilycook-8155 According to WIKI: In 2018-2019 Wooten was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called focal dystonia in his hands and upper body, which had been limiting his ability to play in previous years, but has since abated somewhat.
Man, I sure, remember when the album “A show of hands“ came out. at the time, I thought I was so good at the bass LOL Dang, that album was a wake-up call
Hii Thanks a lot!!! Could you please tell us more about muting in this awesome piece? I can't get how we go muting on slap bass when the higher strings are played
Great explanation- thanks! Interesting aside: this piece is largely based on a Bach cello suite. Yo Yo Ma has recorded that piece: th-cam.com/video/1prweT95Mo0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tSCxRK7HFk2RasCa
Thanks bro! Been doing the thumb thing since the 70’s but never really found a way to make it fit with very much of the stuff I play. I originally started using my thumb like that and a MuTron pedal to play the bass line when my band covered “Black Man” (solo and all) buy Stevie Wonder. That technique was the best imitation of Stevie’s bass line that I could come up with. Lotta cats back in the day were like; “what are you doing bro, nobody plays like that” so I didn’t try to perfect it. Now I wish I’d stuck with it and perfected the technique aka hindsight. Thanks to you and this informative video, I’m going to work on it now. Lifetime learner here! - “Black Man” link th-cam.com/video/pEoE2UQXduA/w-d-xo.html

Thank Darik , good job 🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
This is a great explanation of this technique. Thanks for sharing. (Edited. I need to learn how to spell).

Excellent instruction.
Awesome video! Super interesting. Thanks!
You should watch the live version of the Woot playing Amazing Grace..the harmonics he pulls off are amazing.
Been failing at classical thump for 20 years. Last week in my room alone I finally did it. I don't know if I'll ever play it again lmao
Amazing... you just opened my eyes
Instant sub lots of great insight
Can you do a lesson on James Jamerson's technique. He really had a unique way of playing the bass.
I’ve always wanted to try classical thump is there a book where you can learn

What tuner is on your headstock? I like how it kinda blends with the headstock.

Yo this was a really helpful breakdown, thanks for this dude, you rock 🤘🏻
You need to check out Charles Berthoud, playing Neurotica, now that is complex!
Love everything you talk about and show. Could you relocate the words to the upper right side of rhe video, so we can see your fingers.
Good stuff!
thx
I use the triple thumb technique.
the longer i look at your bass the cooler it gets
3:35 + 5:08 [eyes wide open]
Great explanation- thanks!

I thought he was slapping it, double thumbing it, then slapping it again for the triplet. This is way easier
Let’s have a beer!!?
sei bravo va bene ma facci vedere come si fa porca ma...
Funny, but when I heard U can’t hold no groove first time ever I was sure there was more than one bassist on the record!
Who is the fool disliking this video...we dint ask for his opinion
You are not bouncing. You are resting on the next string higher....
