      snake venom is used in neuroscience (well...technically things like alphabungaro toxin with radio labeling agents that glow) to see the nerve activity... fun nerd fact...lol

      I had a lab session today on white blood counts and had to prick our fingers and determine whether we had a normal distribution of the types of white blood cells in our blood, got worried coz a lot of my blood was stacked but this video has eased my worries a bit lol

    Great video, it was cool seeing blood cells coagulating microscopically. Do you think a fluorescence microscope would have made the blood cells more visible in the distilled water test?

      Fluorescence microscopy would work, but one would have to add fluorescent antibodies (which bind against the red blood cell) to make them visible. So while it would work, I think that the time and effort would be high.

    I am learning so much from your videos and I'm seeing amazing things with my microscope!!!... So when I look at blood through my microscope there are many TINY particles buzzing around the red blood cells in the fluid. They look like gnats zipping around, in and out of focus. What are those? Some can be seen in your video here.

    Just got my first microscope (JttMicrocosmos) today and of course immediately pricked my finger! Thanks for helping me better understand what I was looking at. I came back after ~4hrs and couldn't find any remnant of my RBCs. Either I was doing something wrong or they all popped and went homogenous. Still learning the very basics, like noticing I can focus on at least 3 planes. (Cover slip top, sample, back of slide?) Anyway, just the beginning, next up creek water, and playing with stains. Lots of slide prep technique to master.

      At 2:02 on the bottom right you can see platelets stacked up together which is how healthy platelets should be like.

      Sorry, but I do not support LBA. I consider it very problematic. But pretty much any microscope with a condenser can be converted to darkfield.

There are so many out there and I do not want to waste money on those which do not provide this. I am new to microscopes so am seeking professional advice on what to consider buying. I have a rare autoimmune syndrome so I am wanting to check my blood regularly.

    1:20 oof. You can put that lancet in a spring loaded lancing device and adjust the depth stop so it's more consistent than stabbing manually lol

    the variation in the shaping of the cell was profound. it wasn't mentioned but the NaCl spiking the membrane versus the expansion seen with the denatured water just has to be important. and likely still misunderstood or currently misrepresented

    It would be great to show a blood sample taken prior to your experiment then test the pH of the water you plan to use, for example; distilled water (does not contain minerals) is supposed to be alkaline but I tested one from the store and to my surprise it was very acidic, then drink a glass of water or so and after 30-45 minutes afterwards check another blood sample for comparison.

    Hey, I'm a biology student in Belgium and I am very interested in buying a microscope! I know I'll be using the microscope frequently in the future. I watched a lot of your videos and I am very interested in the white monocular microcope you showed in a few of your older videos, the BMS Breukhoven. I am looking for a monocular microscope with a mechanical stage, light intensity regulator and a condenser. All your monocular recommendations on Amazon don't have all of these things... Can you give me advide on where or how I can get this microscope or where i can find one that is similar? Or should I go with a binocular microscope even though i prefer a monocular?

      Why do you prefer monocular? Do not confuse binocular microscopes with stereo microscopes. They are different.

But like I said, I don’t mind purchasing a binocular if you can’t recommend me a monocular that has the things I want! And am really looking for a compound microscope, not a stereo.

      Many microscopes these days are sold binocular, but especially for schools monocular are preferred (cheaper, lighter to carry). There are not many quality monocular compound microscopes available. Those that are, usually do not have a mechanical stage, no condenser etc. But I can give you a recommendation. Contact the company Euromex in the Netherlands. They have a microscope called BioBlue, which is monocular. We bought it for school.       There is a second Dutch company (www.breukhoven.nl/) they used to make the BMS microscope that your referred to. They too have a range of good educational microscopes. I would contact either Breukhoven or Euromex (Email) especially because you live in Belgium (ideally you could visit them to have a look at the microscopes, but this might be difficult these days).

    @5:47 do you know that Saline is salt solution that is a first thing being given to patients at emergency?
    Doctors leave direct supply of Saline a.k.a. mixture of salt and water, 0.9 percent sodium chloride (salt).

      Interestingly, EMF in even the slightest doses for an hour at a computer causes stacking...I watched an old video from the 80s when people were warning about it and then bought "Invisible Rainbow" - I think perhaps we are either shortening our life span or (hopefully) we are just hunky dory with all this stacked blood from various external, uncontrolled things such as medicine and our cell phones.

      The magnification does not say anything about if it is a toy or not. The magnification is the same, but toy microscopes will give you a blurry image even though the magnification is the same.

    hello dear i like u chanel a lot,
    if u can show\test whats happen to white blood cells as well red blood cell under diffrent type of test like:
    1.whats when happen we\u drink 2-3 glasses of distiled water?
    2.whats when happen after we\u drink 2-3 glasses of spring water?
    3.whats happen after we\u drink 2-3 glasses distilled water mixed with 5 drop hydrogen peroxide ?
    i drank net distiled water i produced myself for 2 years and mixed it with hp with a protocol i seen at big groop at fce book but i couldnt never test how it influence the blood cells as well as other cell if u can figure out any clever test ill aprichiate that very much.

    I think so it's very pain full and taking out blood is difficult as I tried 5 times my skin wrinkled and came out in small pieces but blood didn't came

      depends on the amount of blood that you put on the slide and how fast it dries. Sometimes stacking starts first at the edge, where evaporation is faster. I could see stacking several minutes after making the slide.

      It is called Rouleaux formation. It is a normal process that occurs because the larger surface area of the flat red blood cells allows them to stick together.

    You could do another test drinking salt water and try different salts at different times (table salt, sea salt, etc.). Another day using tap water, another day ground your feet on grass/dirt after walking around in the house, sidewalks etc. not connected to earth and do comparison slides.

    they dont stack during clotting they stack because of zwitter ion charge ,

    Take a blood sample and look at it then photograph the slide. Then take your shoes off and walk around on the grass or dirt and take another sample and photograph that slide. Most people will have clumping of the red blood cells, after 30-40 minutes walking or sitting with your feet connected to the earth without shoes on. You will notice the blood cells are no longer clumping but are separate.

      Your kidney will make sure that level of sodium regulated.
      As a personal choice, I consume only sea salt or pink or Celtic salt. I only buy them as coarse then put into a salt grinder if I need them being fine.
      I dont buy them ready ground because I want to avoid the anti-caking agent (sodium ferrocyanide). I hope this helps. God Bless.

      Myself personally buying Himalayan Pink salt, I also add some Bicarbonate of Soda.

      When a person run marathon and collapsed even well hydrated, it was due to loss of sodium I understood.
