@@stevetalkstoomuch Thanks. I graduated from UCONN in 83' and took the bus home to Niantic many times. And back. The old timers said you could take the train from New London to Willimantic then the bus to Storrs back in the old days. Was curious when that service went away.
The M8s designated for SLE use are an older design (if you consider 2011 as old😂) the ones currently in use were from a later order of 60 additional cars that entered service once they were cleared to run on the Shoreline in 2022.
Even though I live in CT, I have only taken Shoreline East once, from New Haven to Guilford. I know they had (maybe still have) some rush hour trains that come as far south as Bridgeport and Stamford. I know they don't make as many local stops south of New Haven.
You should do the PATH train between NYC and Jersey next. It's a small enough system that the whole thing can be ridden in under two hours, and it's a cool mix between deep level, grade, and open cut tracks. Also it travels through some of the oldest under water tunnels ever built.
I commute on the Hartford line. Sometimes I am inside one of these Mafersa cars. There are some power outlets but nothing like the M8'. They do seem dated and should be replaced with modern cars when possible. That or they need a major overhaul. For the time being, it does the job and as long as one plans ahead by charging their devices to full battery beforehand, I'm okay with these cars.
Nice Video. The full clothed train is terrible. So the windows has to be able full to open for safty by an accident, for fresh air and for a better feeling by the ride/travel. I have clautrophobic, I don`t like use this prison. So for a better public transport I fight for in the ÖDP Ökologisch Demokratische Partei in Germany.
To attract more riders, Metro North, CT Rail and other commuter operators need to offer better amenities, Amtrak aside... They need power outlets and USB Ports, High Speed reliable WiFi, reclining seats, a little more legroom, more cleanliness and bring back the Bar cars.... That's how you attract ridership!
Connecticut needs to do better with these times 1 hour and 15 minutes from new London to New Haven sheesh I don’t like all the little bs stops between New Haven and Greenwich, all the little unnecessary town stops
Pre-covid Shore Line East used to travel all the way to Stamford, CT.
Only a couple of trains during rush hour on weekdays.
As a limited stop service now you switch to metro north limited stop service at New Haven
Would love to see the Hartford, CT line as well! Great video!
Very interesting and good to see that there is some commuter rail transport in Conneticut! Greetings from Germany!
Hello, the far more used (3rd most in the country) commuter rail in Connecticut is the Metro-North Railroad into New York City
@@ryderkirby1 Interesting! I'll have a look.
It's sad that it didn't have more commuters on board!! Maybe it will pick up, if the price of gas keeps going up? Thanks for a nice short trip!!
Yeah, there weren't too many riders on this train, it was after rush hour though. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
2:25 agreed. This looks a LOT like an older non double deck NJT train on the inside.
Yes to the Hartford Line video
Being homebound I really enjoy your videos, very well done and fun to watch! Thank you for making them!
taken this trip many times, love the shoreline views
Just upgraded its rolling stock from diesels to electric M8’s
Yes, they switched to the M8's on May 24th. The diesel equipment will be used on the Hartford Line.
You should do a Hartford video. You might even think about taking Amtrak all the way up to Springfield.
Why is the train running on the left instead of the right?
Thanks. I enjoy the videos.
Any idea if a train might run out of New London north towards Norwich or Willimantic? Thanks.
No trains run to either place. Can take a bus to Norwich, but taxi from Norwich to Willimantic.

@@stevetalkstoomuchno need for taxi there’s a bus for that too

how are things?-like it! top channel~ take care!)
Great! Thanks for watching!
You should definitely make a video about the Ct rail New Haven Hartford Springfield line.

Can you please make a video about Shoreine east again, because Shoreine east has m8s instead of Diesel locomotives 🚂?
How can a commuter get from Providence RI to Danbury in the most direct way?
Amtrak to Stamford then change to the Metro-North Danbury Line train.
@@stevetalkstoomuch thanks
@@stevetalkstoomuch South Norwalk for the Danbury train. (Don't know if Amtrak stops there). Stamford is where you get the New Canaan branch.

They just ordered new cars for the Hartford Line, and Danbury and Waterbury branches. Should be in service by 2030.
So CT Rail also runs M8's?
Yes, This was filmed before the M8's entered service on SLE. Now it's all M8's on Shore Line East. The Hartford Line still uses diesel locomotives.

So M8 then
You think it's little known? I've known it since I was a baby!
Most train/rail enthusiasts know about it. But it isn't too well known outside of the Northeast
Please do
Consider Keto. 😷

It’s now 5 mins faster. The Amtrak does the same trip non stop in 50 mins tho. So you have faster options. Use Amtrak if you don’t want stops
