    Before I got my first dog I did a ton of research and watched as many videos as I could to try and prepare. I watched a lot of Zac’s videos and when I got my dog as a puppy I tried to implement Zac’s methods and I was beginning to be discouraged because it was not working. I was becoming concerned since she was getting older by the day and at times was a demon. I kept watching and looking for other suggestions, that’s when I came across Robert’s channel. I began to implement what I learned in Robert’s videos and within a day I was starting to see a change and after a week my dog was now listening and no longer a demon, basically a different dog lol she is now 5 and is the best behaved dog and I’ve never had an issues with her ever since watching Robert’s videos. Now I always suggest Robert’s channel to people who are getting dogs.

      This is my story with my incredibly high prey drive border collie. She's almost 5 now but she was the veriest demon as a pup. Unfortunately I found Zac George before Robert 😢

    I have no respect for Zak. All he does is criticize trainers. I made a comment to him that I would like to see him with a problematic Shepherd, Mals, or pit. Once I see him with one and is able to train them, vs the little dogs he trains, maybe I would have a diff view of him. However, until now I have not seen that. I have seen him on crusades to take down trainers.

    • @jdaniels1313
      @jdaniels1313 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes, a Malinois will piss on his "positive training" methods and eat him for lunch. My strong-willed Mal girl does really well with firm corrections. With others, she has a very hard time telling the difference between rough PLAY and their firmest corrections. She still loves me even after firm, even harsh corrections. She is a very loving and playful dog, but so strong-willed I hope I get better at this and she matures and learns such that fewer and fewer corrections are needed.

    • @OliveAndJackie
      @OliveAndJackie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Or a puppy. His training is only good for puppies. And thats about it tbh in my opinion.
      Hasnt he been teaching his own dog, inertia, how to walk loosely on a leash for so long now? The ONLY time i seen her off leash is in a very controlled enviroment with very high value things. Zak and so many other people need to realize that fair corrections can do wonders for alot of dogs. Be honest, would you rather put your dog on pills or euthanize them for their reactivity or learn to tell them no?

  • @Brianbrandfas
    @Brianbrandfas 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    Don't get too excited as Zak and his minions have already moved the goalpost and are now saying that he has always distinguished between "management" and "training" and his anti-aversive stance only applied to training and specifically professional trainers. In other words, do as I say, not as I do and it's OK for me to use aversive but not you.

    Victoria stillwell I watched one of her shows when she gets in a vibe and gets talking about how dogs on their own will physically CORRECT….. I mean they will TEACH, yeah TEACH, the mother will teach their puppies not to misbehave.
    She was obviously about to say “dogs correct themselves physically”, she catches herself and uses the word teach instead.
    So these people, at least Victoria, she knows she’s full of S. She knows how dogs will correct themselves.

      She withheld food rewards, which is negative punishment

    I live in Boca Raton. There’s a positive only trainer here in Boca. And her entire social media is throwing treats on the ground and blaming tools.
    Then there’s just trainers in the area who are doing their best to get their clients results.
    The difference? Not positive reinforcement- just about every trainer understands the power of reward dogs with food or toys. The positive focus on the tool, and others want to help people and dogs reach their full potential. I tell my clients - abuse is in the heart, not in the tool. I can use a hammer to help you or hurt you.

    My 4 month old Malinois girl trains me every day. My wife and stepdaughter use wimpy corrections for her over-energetic biting like "be nice". I give her a good slap on the snout and some strong words and sometimes more when she excitedly bites me during play. She doesn't bite me now, even in play. Yes, she gets PLENTY PLENTY of chew sticks and tug-of-war toys and loves playing tug-of-war-to-the-death with her humans. It's been really hard to train other humans how to correct her so she doesn't bite them during play.

    Right. Right. Scientific consensus never ever trained a dog. And...the fact that Zak used aversive control, doesn't mean he used it effectively, I just gotta say that. It's one thing to use physical spatial pressure in a moment of need and another to actually have aversives as a well thought through part of a behavior modification plan. I doubt Zak is doing that. I think he just spazzed, as I have seen him do in his videos, usually ending up with a dog bite in the process. LOL.

Nagging the dog with many, but useless is, in my book, more abusive than using one or two really though corrections and than give the dog his earned freedom for the rest of his life. From this point only maintenance of behaviours is aquired, wich is almost no negative at all but body language instead.

    The scientific consensus does not say anything about aversives being ineffective or unnecessary. Only that aversives cause stress (usually in the learning process) and excessive or noncontingent aversives can lead a dog to shut down. Science has actually shown that aversives are extremely powerful learning tools (there are numerous old studies which show that brutal pain shuts down certain impulses). The scientific schtick is based on cherry picking studies and relaxing scientific rigor to force an 'ethically' motivated conclusion. Watch Cabral, Michael Ellis and Nate Schoemer among many others for proper training with aversives.

    Our society is so sensitive and judgemental nowadays. When one of us dedicate his life to helping dogs and their owners. He still have to worry about what society might think if he is a little tough with the dog for his own good!! Instead of supporting the training and educating people the importance of having dogs happy and well behaved..we concentrate on how was the trainers..was he sweet and all loving. Did he kiss the dog..was he positive??? And by doing that we allowed a new generation of barbie style trainers and the real trainers are called not positive!!
    The next thing will be dogs deciding how they want to be trained and how the trainer should look like.

    Wait. The same guy that posted a video not long ago about how abusive it is to train and use K9’s?? And thinks they should go away??
    And took issue with the recent study on the efficacy of ecollar training in stopping chase behavior in dogs??
    I think it’s a ploy on his part to trick balanced trainers into a bad situation.

      @@littleninjai222 Zak George constantly edits videos of other trainers constantly, using clips that are totally biased, just to suit his statements as that is the only way he can pretend to be a professional trainer, which he isn’t. I am just to glad he has a real serious dog that he admits that he has used “adverse” training just 24hrs into getting the dog, then admits that all trainers use the method at times in training contrary to all he has just spouted out continuously before. All I say is “Zak I wish you the best of luck with a piece of sausage” and welcome to the world of real serious dog owners and trainers. But I bet he will not show his true failings on video and will edit it all out to try and appease his only positive fans.

    It's important when making a claim to include the link to the video you're using. As it is now, you're using cherry picked sound bites and likely out of context to support your argument without providing a source for us to view. As much as I would like Zak to start using a balanced training approach, but I'm a skeptic and I like to make my own mind up based on facts and evidence I have viewed instead of being spoon-fed an agenda. Zak has done enough damage.

    I’ve watched two random videos of R. cabrals and they both showed he does not have a thorough understanding of behavioral principles. Having do many subscribers and speaking with authority using half-knowledge is highly misleading and unethical

      Sadly that is not true. In fact, purely positive training will never stop an unwanted behavior. It is great for shaping behaviors and almost every good dog trainer uses rewards to shape and reward. Sadly a certain portion of dog trainers will never understand how to stop unwanted behavior and that is bad for dogs. Great for lying about stuff online, but no results will come from this.

      @@RobertCabralDogs Genetic DNA code dictates behavior propensity, breeding aggressive dogs is immoral on several counts including having to use punishment as part of training.
      And I will repeat it again that when a cop is afraid of a criminal and sends his "best friend" into harm's way, as there is plenty of video evidence of cops sending the dog after armed criminals, those cops are cowards. I have a very hard time understanding why you support the people who engage in these activities.

      Breeding aggressive dogs is immoral...
      And you are the judge, of course...
      Aggressive dogs happen in every breed possible because "aggressive" behavior has many causes, and there is no simple genetics involved.
      So, Breeding or not, aggressive dogs will exist.
      What is immoral, though, is that these dogs are not given a chance through proven efficient ways of training because of perverted ideology of emotionally unstable people.
