British Airways Avios has long been a somewhat frustrating loyalty program for Canadians - it's super easy to earn points through a variety of transfer partners, but there haven't been many ideal sweet spots to pursue.
That's all changed in the spring of 2022, with Qatar Airways linking up with British Airways and adopting the Avios points currency. All of a sudden, Avios are freely convertible 1:1 between the two rewards programs, and the value in redeeming Avios for Qatar Airways Qsuites is now very attractive.

This is a game changer. Booking through the Qatar site using partner airlines from West coast USA to SE Asia and India suddenly makes Avios points valuable. Love to be able to by-pass the BA Executive Club.

Even 21k Avios for a one-hour intra-Gulf flight seems like a good deal considering that it also gives you access to the Al Safwa first-class lounge. Avios have acquired a whole lot more value with this!

BA charging the same for intra gulf flights connecting from Doha but books the ticket in Economy and not First. Something to keep in mind when flying to someplace in the Gulf
You can use avios to fly on airlines that have codeshare with IAG, like Finnair.

Great Vid. Learned a lot but have tried to book SFO-DXB on Qatar in my Qatar Privledge CLub, using avios, and all they offer is BA thru LHR. Is there a workaround?
So tomorrow I'm flying to Dubai via Doha in Qatar Qsuites from Montreal and did notice my Doha to Dubai portion was in 'first' even though it seems like regular business class but it's branded that way. I started freaking out because I thought 'does that mean I get access to the first class lounge?!?' sure enough, I do but because Ramadan starts tomorrow, I won't get any alcohol sadly :/ but I'm sure the food and experience will be fantastic.
I did however have to book my qsuites via Asia Miles sadly

If I understand it correctly, In the video you are talking of one way tickets as if we are not coming back from Maldives or India or Middle east. What is the plan for returning back to the origin country.

What are your thoughts on the RBC british airways Visa Infinite card? Up to 60k avios points upon signup. I was thinking to first apply for the Avion Visa infinite for the 55k signup bonus, then in 90 days this British airways one.
Great video. I just got the BA Amex card but haven't found it a smooth journey so far to be honest. I've been told they automatically make me a BA executive club account, I received the user ID but wasn't told the password so I can't log in without it

Ive tried searching and it shows 1120000 avios round trip for 4 people from yul-doh which is insane. How do you get the lower rates. I even dont it with just 1 person and it seems to always say 2x avios with every search. And expert flyer isnt working with qatar right now.

Very cool… but how about availability? I’m currently trying to book round trip trip LAX-FCO and use avios to upgrade to business… absolutely nothing available on BA or Aer Lingus. What’s the secret to finding availability? Is Qatar also stingy with their upgrade availability?
I am new to Avios, I only know aeroplan Amex hacks! So do I need to apply for a membership with both Qatar and BA? Then get the Avion visa and transfer both Amex points and Visa Avion points to get the reward?

I have built up just over 200,000 Avion points, but from everything I have watched of yours it looks like my best bet is to start my Rewards Miles Life (I'm new to this redeeming life) would be to join Aeroplan instead of Avios. I have 160,000 avios points with BA, I can only get a £700 discount on Premium economy seats & just over 500 quid on Business class seats on flights to Thailand, so it obviously works differently for Canadians to People living in the UK.

With Qatar now using Avios, this means i can earn Avios with JetBlue using Qatar and transferring them to executive club, adding yet more earning potential.

Couldn't link my accounts because British Airways Account has my middle name in the first name and that's messing things up. Looks like I'll need to scan my passport and send a copy to them to fix it! Make sure your Qatar account matches your BA account if you're creating it.
I usually collect points with Brutish Airways executive club, which don't really expire. I looked at star alliance and got confused as it appears they expire, unlike ba executive club, having activity extends the date by 36 months.. so is there a better way for me to earn points?

@@sabinehalfhill4005 Aer Lingus increased their transatlantic yq fees to $330 CAD roundtrip for economy, and something like $1600 for business class. So you're paying at least that on top of the avios points you spend.

Whatever you young men do....do not go into debt with credit card to get 70k miles on A ONE WAY flight. It's not worth it. Just buy the flight with miles with the CC u already have or buy with cash
avios is great, just don't travel through the uk and their tax.
