Maurice thanks for this beautiful video x I play it everyday while feeding my duck and geese. Last year I heard my first YH male replying to it, thought I was imagining it until 3wks later he showed himself, Iv lived here over 20yrs (they got very scarce in Ireland) and he’s my first since moving to the countryside…. 3 families well established and breeding successfully, free food and water helps also but I honestly think they stayed because of this video x

Always a treat to watch your work Maurice.
I've been trying to video a yellowhammer for ages now. In past years I have seen them at long distance but this year so far they have been very scarce. Like most birds and animals in nature I will probably stumble across a good sighting when I am not expecting to do so! lol
Scouts motto 'be prepared' is always very relevant!

Thank you Tom, I am quite lucky as they are always present on Lyth Hill which is a favorite dog walking spot and the yellowhammers are used to seeing people so it is possible to get reasonably close to them for filming.

I think that this bird is very easy to identify as I often hear this exact same song often in open fields or forest glades during spring. Lovely looking bird as well. Great work on the video editing, especially on that yellowhammer's tail going over the spectrogram.

What a beautiful bird. Seeing the sonic spectrogram under the call is quite a nice touch to these song videos.

Many thanks for commenting, I find the spectrograms very useful in helping me remember the various songs by forming a visual picture of them.

Beautiful work Maurice, I continue to be massively impressed with your films. You bring a huge amount of pleasure to my life, just seeing our native birds that because of my mobility problems I would usually find difficult to see in as much detail. I continue to learn from your information. Many thanks Sir. N.

Thank you Neil, as usual your comments are very much appreciated. Sorry for the delay in replying, and by the way pleas call me Maurice, if you keep calling me Sir I will be getting ideas above my station and start to wonder if there is a knighthood on the way!

Hahaha, old habits die hard MAURICE! In my, and indeed other viewer's opinions a knighthood is out of the question.....at the moment but, an MBE for services to Natural History and Conservation would be a nice start. We all know that this title has been given to persons who may not have deserved it as much as you! (This is as far as my controversial views will go)
I understand your late replies Maurice, your filming and editing must take a lot of your spare time I would imagine. Kind regards N.

Thanks for your comments, the sun shining and the yellowhammer singing in a hedgerow makes for me a perfect early summers day in the English countryside.

Brilliant, mate. Are there any other "phrases" that can be used to remember bird songs?

Hello, I'm a journalist from Brazil and we are doing a report about the Yellowhammer. Is was wondering if it's OK if we use your video in our report? We'd give the credits. Many thanks!

This is quite a different bird from the North American Yellowhammer (Northern Flicker woodpecker)
