Is it sad that it's rare to see preservation efforts to simple, regular cars that people drove back in it's day? Most of the preserved cars, to me, are dream cars that everyone would dream, too. The 60s Mustangs, the Corvette C3s, the Chargers, the GTOs. You rarely see the preservation of the cars that you drove that helped you get that dream car. The hatchback Escorts, the family Plymouth Voyager, the farm trucks, the Toyota Camrys and the like. The stepping stones to help you to your dream car.
Honestly if I could I would preserve the '97 Camry my family had when I was a teen. It's just pure, simple 90s, and not unfun to drive, especially in the snow. Woodland green pearl~

I was at a car meet/show, it was a fairly nice show, a 918, a bunch of lambos, 200ish cars, you get the point... There were a ton of GTRs there, I counted 19. One had a Godzilla statue on the hood, so I said to my friend "my GTR is best GTR because toy dinosaur" and the owner heard me and gave me a really dirty look. That didn't stop me from walking over to another and saying "my GTR is best GTR because it's the same as 18 other cars here"
There actually was a really nice GLH turbo for sale there. It wasn't as clean as the tan Omni, but it was pretty good. Had a bunch of go-fast mods on it.
I absolutely love Mr. R's passion for all the regular crap most people overlook. You can hear sincere yearning in his voice when talking about That '90s Duster and the Omni at the end. I get it. I'm glad someone else does too.
My first car was a 1989 Dodge Omni. I paid $500 for it. By that point it was used up and rusted. I put a tape player in it and 6 months later the head gasket blew and it overheated. Cracked the head. Off to the scales it went. The seats were surprisingly good for a car of that caliber. The rest of the car was pretty poor.
I put a pair of seats from an Omni in a 78 Cutlass. They matched the interior color perfectly. The bolsters and lower support were fantastic and I was stunned they'd come out of an Omni.
at 3:24 thats the best mopar I remember when I was a kid and looked through my dads old car magazines they had cars just like that those were happier times
Having had a few Omni/Horizons thru high school and college, those seats were wonderful for such an economical car. And, it would drive over parking space blocks too well, unfortunately.

hlavco you might be right... I was kind of going by their comments in regards to what shape the motor may or may not be in. If it turned out to be shot, even despite only having 26k miles on it, the GLH idea is more feasible than if it was still running like a top. Either way, though, I wouldn't want to change anything about the body or interior.

It was automatic like this one, and that automatic was rather anemic. I can remember her foot always going to the floor on the gas pedal at stop lights to get up and go. I'm pretty sure it was about this vintage maybe 81', it had the same exact dash. Though I don't remember the air/con controls being on the drivers side of the wheel, but I strangely remember the pull out head light knob.
I probably mentioned in your Horizon video that I learned to drive in an Omni/Horizon in high school, so without realizing it, that car does hold a special place in my heart.

There was a 1990 Dodge Omni for sale down the road from me a while back, 30,000 miles and they were asking $3000. Shrunken door seals and a squeaky pulley in the engine bay, but aside from that she was in pretty damn good condition. Genuinely the most fun vehicle I've ever driven. Ever.

Wow, we were in Carlisle for the Mopar event in 2018. The ironic thing is that we drove a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT. It was the only place - except for downtown Detroit - where we didn't feel we were standing out in it.

An '89 turbo k-car with PLASTIC WHEELS is a perfect kind of stupid late 80s excess for those not quite affluent enough to afford a quality recreational cocaine habit, coming right at the end of the era preceding the austere conservatism of the nineties. The ironically perfect car for the late-comer, despite it's own technological advancements... for the kind of guy that didn't "get" why artists like Bowie or Michael Jackson transcended classifications or fanbases, respectively. At least, not until much later.
