I have an idea for audience retention: editing the videos in a way that shows you using and engaging with the plug-in first, then the details and info and instruction from the website later in the video, after people are already engaged.

Yeah could be cool, right away into a good mix paired with the gear for like 45 seconds then getting into it and the continuing issues and stuff for the real ones at the end :)

@@antoinelablanquie3827 or maybe even put the nerdy bits in the middle, then more of a deep dive in the particular uses of the plug-in towards the end… maybe people would stay engaged?

What do you enjoy the most? What are you the best at? What pays the bills? When you've answered those questions you need to find away of combining them. For instance you could combine a plugin review with a mixing job. Use a plugin that you've never used before in a new project and film the process. That way you mix, review and get paid at the same time. 🤔

we all know that problem. I am a looser in marketing.. but i am fine with it - i make Musik for fun. Not earning money with it. So my fokus is on Instruments Plugins and workflow questions. How to grow in a healthy way. I want SPL Vitalizer and Tegler Creme for my Analog side.. but its expensive just for fun. I am focus more on Musik. Becourse some things are no need. And thats my bottom line. Just have stuff does not make me a great musikan. So i always want to make better musik. Thats my goal.

Just my two cents. Love your technical videos as I’m a mixing and mastering engineer and also a video/audio editor. As it is that you already don’t have enough time, it might be worth considering separating your content into a White Sea Vlog vs this channel and then only pay for editing services for the technical videos for WSS. That way this channel stays tech related and the vlog channel can host the content such as this more vlog style video. But, I’m not as versed in the TH-cam space so I have no idea if splitting channels would be a bad move on a view count over the long run vs keeping it all on one channel, but from my experience with content creators that wanted separate channels, they initially had a hard time building followers on the second/third channel, but overall saw more views and subscribers due to each channel being more niche content.

If it comes to editing: I think less cuts and sparkles is not something we as a community for educational content would mind that much, but I understand that that’s not the whole picture and you‘ll probably have to appeal to others, too.
And about the work-thingy: I myself would not want to work, if it wasn’t something for money, i.e. I wouldn’t do the stuff I’m doing now if there wasn’t money involved. Meaning, if there would be a world where work isn’t necessary, I wouldn’t work, not even on music. But as I‘m here, I choose the work that‘s the least bad for me, my sanity, my health. That’s why I’m working as a sound engineer and artist but also there are some aspects of work I really really do not like, like booking for shows or marketing. I‘m not in a position to let someone work gor me, I don’t make enough money for that but at the same time I wouldn’t want to change with someone who has a high paying office job in a big company. This isn’t critique or anything, I just want to lay out that work itself in this world is something inherently unpleasant, as new things arise and noone can survive doing ONLY the one thing they like, there‘ll be always new aspects that aren’t pleasent. I‘d maybe check out if there’s an ai who can edit your videos, or just accept money from companies. Maybe also let someone sponsor your videos - or let an artist pay you to get a platform they can share their art on and in the meantime you demonstrate some microphones, mixing techniques etc on their content.
Either way, stop overthinking and go with your gut. :)

Hey man, so I thought about your question as if it was an honest question and not a question for engagement. I think you should try out outsourcing gradually and here is how I believe that you should go about it:
    1. Think about what tasks take up the most of your time.
    2. Sort out all tasks, that require physical attendance.
    2. Out of the remaining tasks pick the ones that take a professional significantly less time than you.
    3. Think about what type of video can reach the biggest audience.
I guess that editing videos is the task you're not a professional at that takes up the most time and can be done in significantly less time by a professional - with better results. I've looked at your last ~15 videos and noticed that the best-performing videos are either personal takes (on your life or audio engineering stuff) or highly anticipated reviews. So if I were you I'd pick one of the two and outsource only these videos for let's say 6 months. I'd probably go with highly anticipated reviews (not ALL), because that needs less creativity and knowledge about the subject. Of course the transition will take time, but once it runs smoothly, ideally you should have more time to do what you're a professional at (your €/h should increase) and the better product (video) could also pay off directly (in terms of clickthrough and engagement). After 6 months, I'd evaluate how I feel about it and either: Expand the outsourcing, dial back the outsourcing, change the outsourcing (who you employ or what the person works on), or end the outsourcing. Of course, it's necessary to make adjustments within the 6 months too.
That's my perspective! Hope it helps.

I get your point about making money. Of course, it's absolutely must for a successful business. However, making money isn't a problem. Transparency is. As long as you are transparent and honest, I think nobody would judge you...
I mean I wouldn't mind a sponsored video from a plugin developer that you trust and you can verify that they are good because in many cases trust is an issue...
I mean obviously you can make a lot of money by selling shitty plugin ads and so on But knowing your integrity and honesty, I think it can be done if you manage the quality of the plugins you recommend.
I mean nobody likes too much honesty in terms of reviews. However, great companies don't hide behind scammers anyway. Although there is very thin line between sponsorships and honesty. I notice. So that needs to be managed fairly fucking carefully...

The only thing you can't get back, is time. So, use it wisely... Because the price could be high... later in life. As the elders would say: When you have an idea and the second thought is, "what if"? Means that you're not sure of it, therefore it's not as good as the ones where there is no "what if?"... because you're just doing it, naturally. And of course, working (and sharing the benefits)with a team (like a band) is stronger than in solo-ish. Law of nature. More is more. :-P ... the other truths are in the other comments with a little red heart on them. :-)

Since you've got a significant number of work years ahead, as you decide what you're going to focus on and what you're going to drop, I think you really need to identify which things will most rapidly be replaced by AI, and focus on things that are less prone to being replaced. Mastering is low hanging fruit for AI, and not likely to be a good money maker in the future.

If it is neither of the above, do something else. I too have been doing it all myself (incl battling the troll) but I have to admit that I am hitting a wall as it is none of the above. Ok I feel great as I make the videos but after that, it is all downhill as the support required to justify putting myself out there for others who don't return value, yeah that is a change that has to happen. You make an uncommon contribution to the community, so it is a shame that retention is low.
One possibility -- and it is just that, so perhaps it should be rejected -- is that in many of your recent videos you flounder around, not seeming to know what some of the controls do. Once in a while, it is charming, like a joint exploration in real time, but often it is grating and makes one wonder whether it is worth to watching more or bailing out. Perhaps you are doing too many reviews to take the time to learn the basics of the plugins before exploring them deeply.
Another possible bailout point might be the repeated fast-motion bumpers between your thoughts. There are a lot of them and they last a little longer than they need to in order to provide a smooth transition between segments.
On another level of thinking, maybe you would feel better if you allocated less time to covering so many plugins and more time to your other activities.
In any case, I am sorry that retention is so low because you seem to be one of the few honest reviewers and a decent person. Good luck with whatever changes you try.

But, the important part is to maintain a balance, and listen to the audience as well, so I will adjust a bit more 😊

I agree please don't make your stuff super basic and simple. We are here for the technical nerdy stuff

@Whiteseastudio I totally understand. If anything keep the members only stuff fancy and nerdy we are here for all of it lol. Either way love the channel and I am very satisfied with the little bit of members content you offer I plan on keeping it for the long run.

I would love to put out more members content, I’m sure that as soon as my video editor starts working, my schedule will open up again

Just as a pro tip: I ignore videos with goofy thumbnails. If the thumbnail says SNAKE OIL, I scroll past.

Good, I’ve removed the snake oil stuff from the thumbnail a while ago 🙃

@@Whiteseastudio don’t feel bad it’s definitely not just you. Any thumbnail that looks like the TH-camr is getting a colonoscopy while still awake I also scroll past or even unsubscribe. You haven’t been guilty of this one but so many others are.

Its a big problem in my opinion… its part of how youtube works, and in order to be a youtuber, you have to play that game… but I’ve never had an ok feeling for it…

@@Whiteseastudio to me it shows a lack of integrity. TH-cam wants its creators to look like complete morons or it wont place their videos in searches or suggestions? I think a TH-cam who puts out great content will get the clicks. In reverse, you can light yourself on fire in the thumbnail and if the content sucks, no ones coming back. Just my opinion.

You've bootstrapped successfully, but now need to scale? Like any CEO, it's time to learn to hand off.

LOL...I can't see or concentrate on anything except that cup of liquid near all that gear. Guys you must understand....it's not a matter of "IF" it's gonna spill, it's a matter of "WHEN".
