I heard people were down on this remake for not being "new" enough of an experience. I've played through the first level of the remake and it seems like it strikes a nice balance of preserving the original experience while adding small quality of life changes of the sequels.
I much prefer remakes to be exactly one to one the same, like Crash N. Sane Trilogy, and definitely NOT like Spyro Reignited Trilogy which is so insanely different that some parts are unrecognisable.
This remake is pretty good, I do think the cutscene animations look better in the original, I think Crypto's model looks better in the original and I definitely much prefer the realistic humans in the original.. But regardless the remake is good.
@@cookiesontoast9981 Then for all that you might as well play the originals if you want exact 1 to 1 scaling. A good remake should be an update, it preserves the original concept/general plot and style of the original game while also adding in minor to major features, like QoL changes or improvements made in later games that create a more enjoyable experience
@@jdizzy192 Eh, it's all up to personal preference, With games I think everything should be as close as possible but also adding new features, like N. Sane Trilogy, it stayed very true to the originals but also added the time trials in Crash 1 and 2, plus let you play as Coco in all 3 games at any time.
A game remake should take an existing game that people these days are too ignorant to play simply because of graphics and then show everyone what that game was but all scaled up and add some new stuff.
As I said though it's all personal preference. I feel that if a game remake isn't faithful then it kind of throws away what the original had to time, new generations will never experience the game in the same way ever again. Because sadly so many people are pansies and think that modern graphics are the only good graphics, they don't understand that there's such thing as an art style.
I feel completely different for movies though, movies should be very different, because movie remakes never have any reason to exist anyway, if a movie is good then people will watch, no matter how old it gets, games are different.
@Kazuma Kiryu Yeah that is true to a degree too. But there are definitely the majority of people who refuse to play anything that has older graphics.
Personally I just play everything on emulators so it makes it incredibly easy for me to track down and play old games, but I know a lot of people have no idea what emulators even are and some do but choose not to use them. And some just don't even have PC's or phone capable of running them.

The originals really should be appreciated, this remake also made some really unnecessary changes, and just isn't as detailed as the original in certain aspects. But it's old so therefore old game = bad.

Dude, I loved Invader Zim. It was one of my favorite Nicktoons next to Avatar and Rocko's Modern Life.
And yeah, I had a lot of fond memories with the Destroy All Humans games.
If they remade 2, I'd love to have the co-op tether made larger.
It felt like you couldn't go more than a few blocks away from your friends.
That was probably a console limitation they needed at the time. I remember the game already had slowdown with a maxed out meteor gun, so having two use it at opposite sides of the map would risk crashing with all the assets and particles created and destroyed. If it was remade today there would either be no tether or a very generous one
They'll probably cut co-op out of the remake.

I honestly would pay AAA money for 2 remake, I was excited hearing this one was being remade and even happier it was only $30, well worth the money imo.
Depending on what sales look like for this remake, I'd say they probably will do a remake of Destroy All Humans 2.
I don’t know where you guys are from but here in Ohio it cost $40 (for reference the SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom actually was $30 so it is kinda odd imo)

One can dream. I was lucky enough to get an Xbox One for free last year but because its already a previous gen console I bought Mercenaries and the original Destroy all Humans on the Microsoft store. I'd consider it a nice way to replay the classics
Another thing I quite liked was the blending of the game into the greater mythos. They’ve added a lot of side references to DAH2 such as Gastro the janitor, and the retooling of features like transmog make it feel cohesive.
Seems they definitely are working on a DAH2 remake (although not officially stated) so I’m keen to see that.

This series was my jam when I was a kid, especially the second one. I'm glad this game got the remake it deserves, and I hope they're able to do well with the other games. If they made a new game, that would be cool as well.
In the rampage missions, you absolutely have to transmogrify or destroy vehicles that are worth more points. I got 3 stars on every single rampage by just going after every marked car I saw. The game doesn't tell you that completing the optional objectives will net you more points lmao
Do you mean the Armageddon missions? Yeah those are the easiest just by doing the optional objective. A couple abduction missions were a pain

So the fact that the people who hold all the copyrights to the game and have the say so to make these choices NEVER forget how special the original ones were AND why....

just gotta say i felt the cortex scan part was intutive, when you do it you get a similar audio response the the brain one.
there are also indicators like the rockwell one on pretty much everything, transmog, exploding objects etc. i think you do a really good job and and are passionate about your videos, i frankly love them and the little section of youtube youve craved out for yourself.
I would just implore you go that little extra distance to actually confirm one of the points youre going to discuss for over a minute. (like when you saw the indicator on ms rockwell, you shouldve gone "well now i should go back to see if i missed those in general" which you did.) i know i know, its a really minor thing, but it does tarnish the overall review a tiny bit.
keep up the good work, love the content thats been coming out recently and the frequency has been a blessing as well, you deserve a break!
i did go back which is why i said i only saw it on miss rockwell. You can see me cast the same follow command on the news guy at 9:22 and the filling bar isn't there for him. Nor is it for the distract command at 9:19 my point still stands that there is a lack of feedback and when there is, its seemingly placed at random.
I have so much nostalgia for all the originals except the first one oddly enough. I played the second one first because a friend got it and EVENTUALLY I got the first one myself but could never really get into it after playing the other entries. I've been skeptical about getting the remake bc of that but this vid is making me wanna give it a try

Destroy all humans is responsible for my love of gaming now, I remember playing it at my friend's house and I'd always be captivated by it.
I think Kiwami for Yakuza was a great way to do a remake

Og has a fantastic atmosphere and isn't as bloated. But the voice acting and writing can be really bad. Still waiting for the undub project. Also the lock on for combat can be really bad
Kiwami has the best combat and the voice acting is really good. But the lighting makes it look more bland. With elements that just pads out the game for no reason
I would recommend the og if the undub project was finished. But right now, just choose whichever you want

The problem with kiwami is that its yakuza 0.5 almost eveything was copied and pasted into kiwami which makes it bland and uninteresting they even copied some boss qte animations(Kuze fight qte was copied into nishiyama) and theres only ONE new karoke song which is tonight then just copied ishin karoke song but kiwami is pretty good just not better than something like dead souls which isnt hard lol
i hope if they remake the second game, they add an option to reset/replay side missions, and rework the bosses like they did here

I brought this remake, did mostly everything on about a week, was at the final boss and kinda just put down the game and forgot to pick it back up, I'll have to go do that soon.
It was pretty short and sweet but what I know from thq Nordic is if they're gonna remaster/remake a game they're gonna make a new version. A good previous example is Darksiders 1 and 2. Thq Nordic had them remade then the devs started working on Darksiders 3.

I was half asleep when 19:00 happened. Needless to say being a touhou fan it woke my ass up real quick
I thoroughly enjoyed the remake but the one thing I miss is the old PK mechanics. You could troll NPCs so hard, and using it didn’t make citizens instantly see through your disguise. And didn’t instant kill them either.

I remember going to PAX and getting to play the demo of the first couple missions. I was the only one that was having no issues with the controls and breezed through it. Got my photo taken with guys dressed as Crypto. That was a great time.
Man I loved the second one, I played it so much.

Mission replay on free roaming games is such a great feature that I'm sad not many of them have. Sometimes I just want to replay missions without having to restart my save file. I really liked that Sly 3 and 4 included it.
oh. okay so someone else who's had trouble with the destruction mission, it's actually fairly easy when i realized what it wanted me to do. doing that mini game it'll tell you to 'drain the marked vehicles', that's it. if you drain them you're golden & you'll see your progression bar shoot up in no time at all. prioritize draining vehicles & dropping your nuke boogers on large amounts of buildings whenever it's possible.
I loved this game when I was a kid and I love it even more since the remake
I especially like to have fun with the telekinetic ability upgrade to pop brains and it then transfers to the closest NPC so I get a high wanted level and just watch the carnage unfold
I hasn't realized how much I missed this style of gameplay until I played the remake. It was phenomenal!
A few things I dont like about the remake is people don't get knocked down when you throw things at them.
People don't disintegrate when on fire or with the death ray,
Holobob compromised is great for weapons but its annoying when it happens because of using pk.
I Love the sliding across the ground gimmick, I really do.
But I don't like how you can just do it whenever. Lol
I Love the limitations of only being able to run in the original. 🤷♀️
8:39 I think the reason for that is they have the feedback weirdly done with controller vibrations...while I get the idea, it is still an issue if your not playing with a controller, so idk why they didn’t have better visual/audio feedback.

17:50 in the original version Pox also had some lines if you tried to buy upgrades in the shop without having enough money. Which was cut from remake.
The game does actually tell you how to cancel out PK abilities like Telekinesis. It's at the bottom of the Abilities list in it's own section.
Tap Y (Xbox), Triangle (PS4) not sure on PC.
That way you can put down an NPC without throwing them, cancel a Cortex Scan or cancel a Mind Control command.
Honestly I'd call it a restoration instead of a remake. Just like fixing up an old car, fixing everything that needs fixing but leaving things as they were when new.
It is a remake because it was remade from the ground up, it's not just a remastered Re-release of the original
And one of the core aspects of a video game remake is improving on the original by improving what worked and scrapping what didn't work (or reworking what didn't work in a way tat does make it work)

i didnt realize how fast the remake is compared to original. i did play it as a kid but i hardly remember the exact details of it. but i do love what they did with it. has that cartoony fun feel most ps2 games had.
Back during the 360 days I had only played path of the furon and had never went to different places. I was always messing around and it was very fun

I personally love DAH2 more than the first I hope they make a remake & improve on it where they can.
Also a bit of a tip for Annihilation on the remake. Ignore focusing solely on destroying the buildings. What you gotta do is go after the bonus dna, usually it’s “drain x vehicle for extra dna” that’ll fill the bar faster. When you’re in between getting the extra dna destroy buildings, cars, & anything else with the heat ray & sonic boom. I don’t recommend using the quantum deconstructer unless you need that final bit of the bar & you know you won’t be able to reach the extra dna.

If they remake Destroy All Humans 2, THEY have to have 2 players in, with splitscreen and online co-op.
if they don't put splitscreen in they might as well say get the PS2 version for offline co-op.

10:32 I almost 100% this game (gave up on some boring challenges) and never knew that you could speed up Cortex Scan, Brain Extract and Transmog D:
Something I realized the second time I played the remake was that you can brain extract from the saucer 🤯
The side mission in the saucer actually makes sense, I’m sure you were too wrapped up in the fun of blowing shit up to notice but the actual goal is “destroy marked targets” on your minimap all marked targets are yellow. You can still blow up buildings for extra credit but the focus is on the marked targets if you want 3 stars.
Also, just a side thing to mention when you were talking about Cortex Scanning, distraction, and Forget saying how it’s hard to tell when it’s starting or finishing I respectfully disagree.
With Scanning it shows the tether pulsing from the brain of the individual you are scanning to yours.
With distraction it shows the tether implanting the thought into the head of the person you are distracting.
And with Forget it shows the same thing as distraction but a different color.
Also the range in which you can Holobob is indicated on the crosshair, when it’s just blue *you’re not in range* if it’s blue and yellow *you’re in range*
And one last thing, they are Remaking Destroy All Humans 2, what they do after is up in the air. I for one don’t want a Destroy All Humans 5, I want a real attempt at a third game. There never was a Destroy All Humans 3 since anything that came out after 2 dropped the numbers. Also, Path of the Furon was complete garbage and I want them to just remake the first two and make a third game set in the 80’s.
The 70s, DAH 2 is in the 60s, so lets have a hopeful 3rd game in 70s, and not something like Big Willy Unleashed, good concept, bad execution

I love the original! I also loved the remake, i did all mission's on 3 star and did all optional tasks, I unlocked all upgrades, 3 stared all challenges and found all DNA probes. 100% game save and 100% achievements! Loved it! Can't wait for destroy all humans 2 remake!
DaH is one of my favorites, and the fact we got both of the sequels remade is just a dream come true.
I have the remake on Nintendo Switch, and as a fan of the originals, I am enjoying it.
The remake for Destroy all Humans two looks really good from what was announced.
point of note, the original had a bug, that allowed you to use the "charge" weapons/abilities MUCH faster by tapping instead of holding, (kind of like how in the old GTA games you could tap run to infinitely run), they didn't so much rework the probe, as notify you of the bug that they kept in, and re-classed as a feature. i think they don't tell you about said change outside of the controls picture, (the * by all the things that can be sped up by tapping) is it was a bug in the original, not a feature, so it was never mentioned in the game, but only on the playground and in gaming mags. so when they remastered it, they just copied the script and stuff, and in the end, decided to help the newcomers out by informing them of the bug come feature, via the controls picture, instead of doing the thing that would cost more money and time, editing the other game files, and re recording the dialog that references it.
They changed the mechanics of the brain harvest so that it’s useful in combat, hence the upgrades to it, but I agree with most of your points in this video, great content
Just dumped 20 hours into it and 100% over the free play weekend on my Xbox One X! Loved the original 2, and this game DELIVERS! The gameplay and quality of life changes were amazing, and the graphics absolutely blew me away! I literally stopped and stared at the beach/sunset on Santa Modesta for like five minutes lol. I’m sure we will get a remake of 2 considering they exceeded sales projections and it’s garnered decent hype and reviews.
I personally believe that Black Forest Games should remake DOH2, but create new sequels like what happened with crash 4, creating a new story off of the original 2 games story
I do hope they remake DAH2 at some point. While I never beat the first one as a child, I ended up practically speedrunning the sequel once a week for a LONG time. Easily one of my favourite ps2 games.
So... are you just not seeing the pulsing lights that flow through the tether into and/or from the target when using things like fallow, distract, forget, and brain extract?
I found it a bit too easy(I maxed out brainsnatching), but it was fun overall. The only exception is the last bossfight... I really felt the lack of ammo there...
I really hope this means we are getting a DAH2 remake soon! Then they should do Path of the Furon, then make a sequel set in 1989!

Free love is in the second game It's also in the remake of the second game. Which explains why they didn't add it in the first game.

TBH the "bonus DNA" objectives are in reality "do this to actually win the challenge". For Annihilation, when it says "destroy the marked vehicles for bonus points" what it really means is "we lied about this challenge expecting you to destroy buildings, that's just something you can do for fun in between hitting the Drain button on the marked cars so they die a slow and painful death". Okay it'd probably be more expedient to just laser one car after another after another and do nothing else. I say "probably" because my attempts to test this theory have almost put me to sleep in 60 seconds flat, literally, and I do mean "literally". It may have been late that night, but I still count it as a strike against your game if it fails to cost me more than three hours of of sleep. Every other part of this game managed to do that to some degree, except those specific challenges. Puh-theh-tek!
PS All the kids I knew as a child were selfish dicks and my mom hated video games, so I'm super glad I finally got to experience this game! Thank you for showing me all the little details I might've been nostalgic about, cause I play a good remaster I want to pay my respects to the original and the folks who worked on it. It feels like a lot of the current Black Forest devs played the original as kids with how much attention to detail and polish goes into everything, right down to excitedly showing you the before and after shots almost as if the whole game was simply fanart.
I'm still not a fan of how cartoony the NPCs look in the remake. I much prefer how they looked in the original game.
if they had a more realistic walking animation (as crypto holobobbed) along with the goofy jogging one, id actually be totally fine with them.
