I'm an app developer, and every app developer I know uses Android, not Apple. Some use a MacBook for work, but personal devices are almost exclusively Android. This is in part because Apple traps people in the little Apple world in ways that make it very hard to escape, selection for apps is very limited, and then they charge you through the nose for it. Plus Apple has their own, proprietary ways of doing things with developers that are notorious for being unnecessarily difficult, and often nonsensical. They even rejected an app for a newspaper because they said it was stealing content... from the newspaper's site. This is with the name of the newspaper in huge font at the top of the app! No Apple here. I only own them because I have to use them for work, and they sit in the closet, otherwise.

I use a Samsung phone and watch without any issues for general (non aviation) use. Now that I'm working on my Private Pilot's license (and beyond), I'm getting a tablet. Theres really no need for me to switch to Apple other than for flying. The Aviation industry settled on Apple as the Gold standard a while ago. I honestly don't know any pilots not using Apple for their EFB . Being Pro Android, What do you use or recommend that would support and EFB such as Garmin Pilot? Nobody here has mentioned anything Android yet. Thx

I remember back in the day Jason would fly the airplane in the videos....living the Cirrus life now.

I like to fly with my IPad 10.5 inch screen on my right leg (kneeboard style). I am left handed so my notepad Tri-fold kneeboard is on my left leg and my IPad is on my right leg. I like the bigger screen to give me a good view that I am able to see especially approach plates. I do recommend strapping the IPad to your leg so it doesn't move on you and stay secure. I have tried the window mounts but they are bulky and give me bind spots where I cannot see outside. I fly C172XP / C172 mostly.

I use a Mini 6 in my Sundowner on a suction cup mount does not take up a lot of space , and I too also use paper for notes .

Wow, making a commercial on an aircraft that is very fast, hands off the stick and not watching for traffic, good job guys, the FAA,needs to watch you. As a pilot myself I just had to cut off the video, I had chills of fear.

Mini 6...primarily on knee board (SR22)...but will use a suction mount in the Lindberg reference in CAP aircraft. Trying to be less dependent on the iPad and use more of the planes capabilities recently. I have to say that has reduced my distractions and improved my workload.

Yes the cockpit space is very important in the moment to chose an iPad , in my case I use the mini 6 256gb and foreflight , all in conjunction is a really good tool for flight.

I was thinking about getting an ipad mini, but they are so incredibly expensive i ended up just upgrading my phone from a iphone se (tiny screen) to a iphone 13 and use that with skydemon, works like a charm

I use a mini 4, but just got a notification from ForeFlight that they will stop supporting that model along with some older iphones. Will go back with a mini 6. A short video on that notification from ForeFlight would be great. Thanks!

Hi Jason, I started with the mini, which I liked, but moved up to the 9" pro and I like it better, but it does take up a lot more room in the 172 I fly.

IPad Pro 9” for me as well. Perfect size. I like to see my charts on Foreflight.

It's a tough one. I need the bigger iPad for my eyes, but I fly different planes, some with sticks (where anything on your leg gets in the way) and C172s. Suggestions? I also don't like blocking my view in the window.

Good introduction to type of tablets, but you forgot the important options; cellular or wifi! Is it better to use the onboard GPS (cellular) or connect to another GPS source? Great video, it's easy to tell that you both love what you do.

Personal choice. My iPad mini has GPS/cellular but I use an external GPS (Bad Elf) in the air. The cellular data is handy for weather updates and such.

I’m an iPad Mini 6 user and I never felt I needed anything bigger (especially as I’m only flying C152 and C172) - my backup is my iPhone and a printed 1:500 000 map.
I’m looking for suggestions on a good kneeboard mount though as I use the thing for content consumption as well - currently I just have it unsecured on my lap during flight 😬

I would personally avoid using suction mounts in the Cirrus. Regardless of the suction quality, long term use of a mount will develop a ring on the interior of the windscreen and is not cheap to repair.

I fly the "iPad" Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8". Performance is not more than acceptable indeed but the combination of size, weight, reliability, build quality and display brightness, resolution and contrast is actually unsurpassed. If it would only have a slightly more modern SoC..

    • @hansfm2032

@@DayaMcCarthy Foreflight is an Apple-only app, I think, so that will not work. SkyDemon works well and EasyVFR and apparently Garmin Pilot are available though.

totally useless video. Not a single thing useful. He uses I pad pro, she uses I pad mini, there has to be 20 Ipad pros and 30 Ipad minis. . No version described or compared. Nothing. the video first picture shows all these pads as if they are going to talk about them. Clck bait waste of time.
