I attended a post concert party with them in the second half of the1960s. It was a wonderful honour and I still have the concert programme with what Ronnie Drew wrote on it in Gaelic.
I already thought they NEEDED to play the Wild Rover, and weren't going to do it - but I had to wait til the very end. 😉 What a fantastic concert! When I was a young girl growing up in Hamburg, Germany, I saw the Dubliners busking in a subway station. I was immediately taken with them and stood and watched them for maybe an hour. I took one of their flyers, advertising which pubs they would be playing in and when. A few nights after, I dragged several of my brothers to one of those pubs to see them playing. That was over fifty years ago, and I've loved them ever since.
They were or are all fantastic entertainers but John Sheahan is, I submit, the glue that kept them together. He's always there with a fiddle or a whistle - not intrusive, but bringing out the best and reinforcing the individual talents. There are, fortunately, one or two groups now who are keeping the joy of the songs alive but thank you, The Dubliners (in all your manifestations), for brightening my world.
Patsy is the best man to sing this song and in this video he says that Pete St. John wrote it for him in 1977. This song and Ferryman, also written by Pete St. John are best performed by Patsy.
John ´ s part that the Dubs stayed 50 years together is amazing. To be over 50 years 35 of 52 weeks on the road you will not reach without a great friendship.
I thank you so much for uploading this concert! The Dubliners are my favorite band and this record is more precious for it is Barney's last appearance. Thank you
The thing I appreciate most, at age 70, is how much each of those gentleman hurts while doing what they have done best for 50 years. Sitting hurts, getting up hurts, bending fingers hurts, vocal chords hurt, eyes hurt. But when they sing the hurt disappears.s
They do so much more than to "gently trace [their] signatures in air" - they trace them in hearts, souls and minds where they stay forever. Happy Easter, everyone! Enjoy the Spring.
fan for live ,from the late 60 till today, seen them several times live here in Holland first time in Leiden on a festival . now they are are fading away
Thanks so much for this upload! We were at the concert, in the second row. We spent a few days in Dublin during the TradFest and it was an amazing experience, with music all over town. This concert was "the icing on the cake", a fantastic night in the magnificent cathedral,
I was living in England from 2000 - 2001 and it was before I discovered this music. I deeply regret being so close at the time and just not knowing what I was missing .
They had so much fun and they all enjoyed it. The Dubs never had an official agreement intern. They supported all members and their families until the final end.
Patsy gets stick from some Dubliners fans, but to me there's nothing offensive about his performance and he does a good job on songs such as Dicey Reilly, The Rare Auld Times, and The Ferryman (though that last song was one of his anyway)
A great show!!! Does anyone know the name of the tune with church organ, pipes and strings? I just had goosebumps, what very rarely happens to me. If there should be only one song for my funeral, I guess it would be this one!!!
@@callumrichardson1528 To be really pedantic, it's Christ Church Cathedral (not Christchurch) But yes, it's a lovely piece which friends and I have been playing for a good while.

Patsy has absolute no timing in his singing. Impossible to join him synchronized. Either the chorus nor the rest of the band. Horrible choice after Paddy‘s retirement.
Patsy was the worst replacement ever! He is not able to sing synchron, he is a clown and always is joining in when Sean sings. Example 1st song „Mountain Dew“.
Miss the Dubs. such a lot......thank God for the many recordings. John's piece SOooo very beautiful.
My father loved Barney playing the banjo and my father passed away 3 weeks after Barney in 2012 may they all rip.
The Dubliners will be remembered for ever!
Wish I could see them all one more time...Barney, Ronny, Luke, Ciaran, Eamonn,Jim McCann ...you´re all deeply missed

Grand concert... C'est du plaisir de l'écouter, sans fin...
Luke Kelly a une voix exceptionnelle, tout comme celle du regretté Ronnie Drew.
I love this music. Brilliant, fantastic. Thank you Dubliners!!!!
Greetings from Argentina.
The world had changed so much between 1962 and 2012. And they were still there. On the top!
I never tire of watching the Dubs, Every one of them really enjoying their craft!

50 years of the Dubliners! And this is the very best of their talent! God bless them all! God bless Barney McKenna!
Dublin in the rare old times (at 50:38 mins) deeply moving and what a lovely rendition 💚

Thank you! That was deeply moving and lovely indeed.
Part of irish life died with they Dubliners There songs and music were life and soul of any party
still sends shivers up my spine may they all rest well
This is the all time band from Ireland for the world and they will be known through times which have gone and are and will come
Love the Dubliners I am at home once more !! Brilliant !

First saw these guys in the early '70's in Sheffield, they were brilliant then, and clearly were right up to the end.
Magnifique, émouvant ! Un groupe de légende. Bravo, from France
John Sheahan hell what a musican and how much fun they have. Listen and escape the madness out there for 90 nice minutes! Miss you Mister Drew

Don't get me wrong i love Patsy Watchorn, but in my opinion his singing style and voice does'nt work that well as a second voice.
his voice doesn't work for The Dubliners' songs, period....
I agree with that no to keen on his style
I think age was against him. I liked him a lot in the Vicar Street DVD.
Lovely to see this. Did Barney (and the others) know that he was dying?
No . V
Does anyone know the name of that baroque style piece played at 19min 30 secs, it's just a bit - Good!
Think it's just called Christchurch Cathedral.

Why?
Then don't listen, nobody forces you to do so.
