I discovered Clannad in 1987, around age 20, when I was managing a used record store in America... been a huge fan ever since. But seeing them live in California in 2012 added incredible color and context to their story. I'm forever grateful for the 2 hours I spent in the presence of one of great musical families of all-time.

I'm tellin you, there is nothing more funny than listening to a 49 year old black man that's been listening to Clannad since he was 15, sing along with these songs! I LOVE Clannad! I think I have all of the albums. One of my favorite songs of theirs is caislean óir and I can't say the words correctly! I wish I could find lyrics that were spelled out phonetically, so I could pronounce them correctly. Clannad forever!

@joseph Dixon Well then, how about a 49 old guy from Algeria (north Africa), who got hold of a Clannad “cassette” in 1990 as a gift from an old neighbour who lived in Ireland. back than I was more into hiphop & RnB, but listening to “Nil Sen La” was like a revolution!. 25 years later, I left my country to go and live in a charming city in uk where one evening, while driving back from work, I spotted a sign saying “Clannad in town”…the young man back in Algeria wouldn’t even dream of seeing Clannad…he was wrong!. Went “selfishly” on my own to the Concert, and it was pure 2h of pure joy and lots of emotions filled with nostalgia…the evening was crowned with an unforgettable chat with Moya and all the band. I was….happy!.;-)

I still recall the evening that my father introduced me to Clannad's Dúlamán album when I was in my mid-teens. As a Dubliner, he was a great lover of Irish traditional music. It wasn't long after it was released and I have been a fan of Clannad's ever since then. I had the good fortune of finally seeing them in concert during their farewell tour at the Orpheum in Los Angeles this past October 5th, 2023. They began their set with Buachaill Ón Éirne, which was my father's party piece. He passed away last year and I was so moved with emotion right from the start of the concert. The memories that they brought to mind were so uplifting and filled me with overwhelming joy. I don't know how many times that I fell asleep with my headphones on listening to their LPs in my bedroom as a teen, oh, so many years ago. Their outstanding music is intricately weaved through my life and this concert is a testament to the breadth of their extraordinary talent and their worldwide appeal. Go raibh míle, míle maith agaibh a Chlann as Dobhar.

As someone from Ireland I say this with all sincerity, Clannad has given me much joy over the years, I feel privileged to hear them singing our native language, as they come from a gaeltacht area where Gaelic is their first language, it is such a treasure for me to listen to. I wish I had grown up in such an area. The fluent haunting melodies and harmonies are other worldly and it makes me proud of our heritage and culture. Love this so much ☘❤❤❤

Loved Clannd since Roin of Sherwood. I wanted to know this band! So I bought all the old stuff I could get, but I was missing Duleaman. My mother was going on holiday ro Ireland and she asked what she could get me. I said Duleman and explained that it involves seaweed. She hunted up and down everywhere they went and no one got it! Eventually a sweet little girl bought her all the Clannad stuff they had and she went 'That's It!' the girl; said how can you be sure and my mom said 'Look at the cover' she could have been Miss Marple, my mom!
Then, there was the magical night at Ludlow. Ludlow is a wonderful old town in the middle of nowhere, England. They have the most Michelin stars outside of London. a wonderful Arts/Theatre/Music Festival every year, that gets major stars, but somewhow they have still escaped the loonies. Well done Ludlow!
Anyway, part of the festival is a Shakepeare production in the castle ruins. Which was where Prince Arthur died, if anyone actually bothers to read real history. Anyway, that years play was 'As you Like It' and the week before I had enjoyed watching major actors scampering about in the 'Forest of Arden' and the castle ruins. That finished Saturday night, Clannad played Sunday in the same set! It was wonderful. Robin of Sherwood on Overdrive. They were giggling about it themselves. They said 'We keep getting lost backstage. There is whole different castle back there!' I took my old mom with me to Brum Symphony Hall and we were up in the cheap seats,. Which made them tiny. She said 'I knew they were Irish, I didn't know they were Leprechauns!' Hahah! Good memories. Thank you Clannad.

Thank you to our European neighbours for ensuring the international success of Clannad ❤
In Ireland, in the 70s and 80s, people outside of Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) areas did not want to hear songs in Gaelic.
When Clannad travelled outside of Donegal in Ireland they were asked to sing in English, or not to sing in Gaelic/Irish.
So if it had not been for the massive success of Clannad on the European continent, they might not have become well so well known outside of Donegal.
(And in my opinion the Gaeltacht communities still produce Ireland's best and least generic musicians, even though the Gaelic culture has weakened a lot since the 70s and 80s)

@@helenclarke4735 There is an excellent Highland bagpipe recording made in this church, Bagpipe and Organ Recital, from half a billion years ago. Boyle and Olgivie, it's still available. Church acoustics were designed to make average people singing sound ok. For sounds that are better than average, they can be glorious performance spaces. Speaking as a piper.

My wife and I got to see Clannad on their farewell tour a few months ago in Edinburgh, at the Usher Hall. Sadly Pádraig was no longer with us, but it was joy to watch Máire, Pól, Ciarán and Noel live, busting out all the old tunes! Two things really stood out for me personally - Moya's brilliant voice and Pól's fine tin whistle soloing ☘

One of my all time favourite bands. I do recall when I bought Magical Ring on vinyl, in a small shop in Padova under the historical city centre arcades. Not sure why did I buy it, either had listened to Harry’s song aired by a radio night time programme or just attracted by cover. And staring at the cover and the lp notes for a few long endless days wondering what could be the music content before been able to play it in the week end once back home from Uni. Since then I got hooked and fond with them. Some years later I attended to a concert of theirs in a Bologna theatre and had the incredible experience to share a beer backstage with one of the “twin uncles”. What a memorable moment. And such a talented but so down to earth guy. RIP Pádraig. Their music will last forever.

One Arctic spring as the ice cover magically disappeared into the still freezing air to expose the bare earth to continuous if weak sunlight, I first heard Clannad. It was 1993. Icebergs still waited for their release in the fjord at eighty degrees North when I first heard Clannad. The promise of light in a silent land that ended months of total darkness and a farewell to the constellations of the night sky were at hand when I first heard Clannad.
A few years ago the music of Clannad soothed a troubled toddler in her bath. Tonight this music helped a two-year-old find sleep after an overstimulating day.
This music is a magic that transports one to a faraway time and place, perhaps many.

As the years go by, Moya Brennan's voice and performance style are still the same as they were in the ' 80s (Robin the Hooded Man)! Great music is not influenced by time. A treasure then, a diamond now. Magic, nobility, magic . If other rock bands were not based on folk music, then they "do not come to the origins" - they have nowhere to retreat from electronic music. Clannad, however, is quite another matter ! (although they can also play a synthesis of Celtic folk, rock, new age, and jazz. )))) So much potential in the origins of their music !
