One of the hardest programming assignments I had in college was to write a tic tac toe game. The player could either move first or second, the game could never lose, and it had to declare when the cat won. I had to figure out that start-in-a-corner stuff all by myself.

As a person who apparently challenged half my old classmates to a Tic Tac Toe match and has almost never lost (win or tie), I learned of some amazing tricks like the "double trouble" (maximum 2 ways to connect 3) and the "triple trouble" (maximum 3 ways to connect 3, which is this one right here, you can connect a maximum of 3 if your opponent goes bottom-right and bottom-middle), and how to counter said tricks. All you have to do is "cancel" their triple trouble by placing on a spot that forces them to block you

I also almost always won or tied some of tricks I learned was to always form triangles with your pieces. This will in almost any context end up in 2 or 3 ways to get 3 in a row and win.

As a Tic Tac Toe proffessional, I can say this is the tactic I use all my fights and teached my friends. After my friends learned it all our fights were just ties, so I can say this tactic does not work if the opponent does it too

I've figured this out years ago and I've never lost using this strategy. Even if my opponent went first I figured out (as long they don't use the same strategy) I could still win doing it right. The thing with tic tac toe is basically predicting the possibilities and narrowing them down to your advantage, which would most likely let you win, as long as the opponent isn't trying to do the same. One of my friends eventually learned this too, but I learned how to counter it. Whenever I do counter it, I can't really win, but tie the game instead and keep repeating it until they stop using the same strategy, allowing me to win in the long run. I've also learned other ways to checkmate my opponent but I kinda forgot how to pull them off.
This is nothing compated to chess.

It may not be a guarantee, but you'll win 2/3 times, based on the three scenarios shown. The first two you win, the last (where the enemy goes mid, then doesn't go in a corner) ends in a tie.

My grandma sends me this electronic Christmas advent calendar every year. It’s really cool and they have this tic tac toe game where I had to try and beat the AI. I spent years doing this and eventually I figured out how to win (or at least draw) every game I ever played. So 5 year old me teaching myself this stuff from my grandma’s advent calendar, wow it seems crazy when you say it that way.

It doesn't matter if you do the opposite side or the corner next to your X/O, the opponent can just go to middle right, middle left, up middle, or down middle. So it wouldn't be a guaranteed win, but rather a tie.

There's a number of ways to do this.
It's all about making moves in such a way that makes it so you're opponent, instead of just being able to do one move and block you from winning, is unable to stop both possible victories.
It's best if you're able to make said move without causing too much suspicion, because these plans can easily be foiled if your opponent knows what they're doing.
As long as you can count ahead you should be ok.

Another way to win most of the time is go in the middle. The opponent should go to one of the corners. You then go to the one opposite of that corner which should create a straight diagonal line. The opponent will most likely go somewhere that is not a corner. (This may not work if they go in a corner) This let's you go in the another corner to get them double blocked.

If your opponent sets anywhere on the middle right, middle left, middle top or middle bottom, you will win. place your next unit in either the 2 corners of the opposite side of where he placed his. after he blocks you place the next one to block your opponent. Now you have your opponent trapped. Doing this on paper first is recommended.
