One of the memories I hold most dear is of my Grandad showing me how to hand feed Chickadees in the mountains of Colorado when I was about 5 years old. Been so many years, but feels like yesterday.
Hei Espen, only recently I have discovered your blog and videos, and I'm absolutely amazed about the unique mix of entertainment and information sharing. I have just started my wildlife journey, and your videos are really very helpful. A special "Thank you" for this one - watched it over the weekend, immediately tried it out at the feeding station I'm visiting regularly. First attempt, after only 5 mins I had the first blue tit landing on my hand, looking into my eyes, then grabbing a nut and disappear. What a feeling :-)
An early start for you Espen, but the rewards you received and the look on your face as the birds came and fed from your hand was truly amazing, this is when you realise a bird has their trust in you. As always some great photography you have brought to us.....Thank you.
Hi Espen so now your Dr Dolittle lol that is seriously cool getting birds to feed from your hand. Love the red squirrel we only get the grey squirrels in my neck of the woods. Until next time take care and stay safe my friend.
Hi Espen, enjoyed the vlog. We have the same kind of set up here in a Kent woodland. We only get grey squirrels down here but they are equally fascinating to watch. Haven't had a coal tit since March sadly. Not managed to get anything feeding from the hand yet but the Great spotted woodpecker sits a few feet above my head telling me to clear off and is down before I can get back in the hide. Love it.
Oh wow that is amazing.....you just leave the feeders in a public forest/woodland so? Also, what is the food you are feeding them? It looks really big for normal bird food
Yes, this was unsalted peanuts meant for squirrels, but lots of small birds eat them :) and yes it's a nearby woodland, I live in quite a remote place :)
I want to buy a camera and lens each for bird photography. What do you suggest between Canon 7D Mark ii with Canon 400 mm and Nikon 500D with Nikor 200-500?
Hey Nsbhagwat, You should use bird food..... OK, joking aside. It looks like Espen is using peanuts, we I have been out I take along sunflower seed or mealworms. But it has been a while since I have.
Dont know which made me smile more, the bird landing on your hand or just the shear joy on your face. Thanks Espen, made my day.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Sunday morning: Espen hand-feeding wild birds and a look of joy on his face. It's going to be a good day.

Nice one Espen.
Wow.
Amazing!
We had Sparrows on our feeder less than ten feet away this summer. That was a thrill, I can imagine what you felt with a bird on your hand.
Ha,! Very well done :)

Thanks!

@@EspenHelland lucky you. If I had to leave the feeders out in the woodland near me, they would be gone in a minute

Nikon 200 500 has a constant but dark 5.6 aperture, and it is very heavy for hand holding. I will recommend canon 100 400 L with 7Dm2.
I have a canon 90d and its awesome
I loved the 7Dii, never tried the Nikon D500, but I've heard it's very good
sorry, what are those seeds to eat? then how long ago did you put them there?
It was unsalted peanuts, had them up for a couple of weeks, but think they got used to them earlier then that.

thanks, great
What is the recommended feed for these wild birds?
Feeding birds on your palm, nice experience.

Yes, use good bird food. Peanuts were for the squirrels, but many birds eat them too :)
