In my humble opinion Martinus symphonys should be in the permanent programmes of the leading orchestras even if it means replacing the symphonys of Schubert, Haydn and Schuman . Martinu had a vast output of wonderful music most of which we never hear in the concert halls . This is so undeserved.

I would never remove Schuman's 3rd symphony (nor some poetic pieces) - but Martinu's 2nd symphony and his 2nd violin concerto are masterpieces - I'm just starting on him. I think he's part of the Fab Four Czechs: Dvorak, Smetana, Janacek and Martinu.
The less that I can say is that this set is much more recommendable than Thomson's and this might even be the best recorded performance of this symphony
I love Martinu's symphonies. There is something wonderfully vital in them, indefinable but unmistakable.
Martinu's symphonies are FANTASTIC.
Martinů is just brilliant, BRILLIANT!! God, what a extraordinary music!
If ever there was a hilltop summer sunset in music, it is at 10:47 here. Astonishingly beautiful.
And the good news is we don't have to climb up. The music carries us.

So true! Haydn in particular is overrated, many of his symphonies are quite boring... (IMHO)

@@PaoloFioreRules get better ears then! What Haydn symphonies are is subtle. Too subtle in your case?

You are right, this is an excellent performance of this underplayed symphonic masterpiece.
great
Martinů is a very capable symphony composer.
wonderful!
I've always loved Martinu's music. I have the Brydon Thomson set of the symphonies so it will be nice to compare. Thks.
Good man Bob. Martinu's music is sadly under-represented in today's concert halls.
drop BT's versions down the dispose-all. These are infinitely better.

Thanks, I tried to track it down to add it to the video's description, in case anyone would be interested in it.
@@SergioCánovasCM It's a nice painting.
Inspirace Dvořákovými Zlonickými zvony? :)
Thomson's are fine, but it's hard to top Jiří Bělohlávek.
