I have been tipped as a Captain but always give it to the other crew members. If someone gives me wine, I like to pass it on to the home field FBO or a mechanic.

I'm against tipping Flight Attendants. The reason is because I value them not because I don't value them. In Canada, because of generally accepted tipping practices in the restaurant or taxi business, wages are only minimum or slightly higher. In the USA it's even worse with peanut restaurant wages because of tipping practices. FA's should not even delve in the tipping business and focus 100% on appropriate salaries for fear of eventually moving towards the restaurant and taxi model.
Flight attendants are not allowed to take tips and make enough money so they don't have to rely on tips. Same in the corporate world.

I agree with this, corporate Flight Attendants make very decent income. Unfortunately commercial Flight Attendants do not until they have many years under their belt. There are plenty of commercial airlines who allow passengers to tip the flight attendants if they want to. Frontier has a tip screen included on the service sale screen. As you mentioned though @shadowmist, the flight attendants weren't supportive of this because they thought it was going to affect their base pay
Women definitely need to talk about pay. My friends and I talk about how much money we make and it helps us know our worth in the workplace. NOT discussing salaries keeps women on the lower end of income levels.

Restaurants in NY don’t open for indoor dinning until the end of the month. We have done plenty of take out and enjoyed in the comfort of our home 😊
Because of the culture of restaurant tipping in Canada and USA in terms of their wages being lower because of an unwritten requirement now of tipping, I will tip 10% as a minimum and 15-30% for service and food excellence. 20% is not a bad policy either. Also because next time I go to the same place....well you fill in the blanks.

This is so true why people always ask how much u make to a flight attendant its basic manners... i dont even ask my sister what her salary is
It’s so strange! I’ve had other jobs that I thought were interesting before I started flying and no one ever asked about my pay 💁🏻♀️

I've been to Belmont but as I have gotten older I changed my opinion on horse racing. I know they are pampered but the injury risk is too high.
But maybe for my namesake horse I can make an exception :)

i imagine if you go into private jet as an attendant and feel insulted about no tips, you're in the wrong job. As salary will be high anyway, and as noted if someone is paying $100k + for a private flight. Then paying the person looking after them is probably the last thing on their mind. They pay for the experience, and as the customer they should expect to receive it. IF they company you work for pays a garbage rate, then you need to find a better company
A lot of CFA’s expect a tip because they’re providing a service. I understand where you’re coming from though
This video was interesting. Do you think you may get asked more private questions because you have a TH-cam channel? While i would not ask an average secretary about their pay, I might inquire if they had a TH-cam channel giving information about being a secretary.
You bring up a great point Tom, however I am asked this by people in random conversation, first time introductions etc. It’s more understandable if someone on TH-cam asks because I do share about the job on this platform.
That's always bothered me when "adults" ask people they don't even know how much you make. I can understand when you are sixteen and you are curious as to how much one of your friends makes at McDonalds...but you can chalk it up to innocent curiosity and naivete. But when you are adult age you'd think there are barriers you'd be aware of as to not be nosy. Perhaps it comes from good parenting. Hey, if the person divulges it without being queried...then no infraction.
One thing bothered me was a story about a captain on a part 135 gig. The story went that after being refueled, the Captain flashed a $20 bill while the co-pilot looked on and after out of sight gave the line person a $10 bill, obviously to show $20 on his expense report and pocket the $10.
Shameful.
I had it once happen in Jersey that the service station (After I asked for a receipt for my expense account) asked me after finishing fueling my company car: "Sure! How much you want me to fill it out for?"
I replied: "What it says on the gas pump!"
His reply: ...Just asking! People do it all the time!" I'm sure he expected a cut. Sad.
I'm sure it's pretty standard for line folks to get tips.
I always give a tip on to-go orders. A lot of times they get stiffed on tips...waitresses have told me they might have a $30 take out order and no tip! I think they work harder boxing it all up. My feeling is if you can't afford two or three bucks on a take out order maybe you need to stay home and open up a can of soup..

that is beyond shameful, I couldn't imagine risking my job to claim $10 more.
I also tip on to-go orders. Pre covid I would tip 15% on to-go but now I do 20% or more.
Seeing all of the 121-ers on social media has been so heartbreaking. Hopefully we can all bounce back quickly!
Someone LEGIT asked me to do a breakdown of my salary in a video comment the other day and I was like..... HUHHHH??? lolol okay, glad I'm not going crazy.
Asking an individual FA what they specifically earn may be out of place. Asking an FA educator how much the industry pays is perfectly fine.

EXACTLY! My one favorite Diner in town has had s big reduction in staff. Who's left are starving because their tip revenue is way down. There are a few women there who are in their early to mid-thirties and solely self-supporting. Most are.
I've sadly seen a lot of well to do business people stiffing people on tips.
An ALAMO bus driver in Denver years ago unloaded at least six sets of ski's for guys well dressed for the ski slops. I watched as none of them tipped. The driver was probably late 60's. I was sitting behind him and asked if they had tipped him. "No" he said politely without a hint of anger. He had been on his shift for six hours and no tips!
Still makes me angry thinking about it.
I agree...at least 15-20% unless they are jerks.
And don't leave a penny on the table if it is real bad service..
Most of those who do it are probably looking for any excuse not to leave a tip. Bad service...just ask for another server or find a new place.
@Sara Ford 20 % tipping yes but over tipping is not a given. Depends on what they do. My money is as important to me as theirs is to them and it's not my job to pay their rent.
THANK YOU! I had to go back to work at a fine dining restaurant and not only has our clientele completely changed, but tips have gone down massively. I left with a total of 5% of my sales the other night. It is so discouraging. And not to get into politics but I believe it is because a lot of people who don't know how to go out to eat, are getting a lot extra money from unemployment so they're coming out to fancy places to post on their instagram that they were there but they have no idea how you're supposed to act at a restaurant or the rules of tipping. It stings more since we have to put ourselves in harms way to serve people :/
@@lukeschneider2609 At the diner I frequent the most, they have a huge tent beside the diner that the servers must have to walk outside and then at least thirty feet both ways each time they first take an order...then bring drinks (2 more trips) and then bring main orders (2 more trips!) and then if dessert...2 more trips! And because of 50% occupancy more use the tent. In Central PA where we are at snow, rain and cold will be upon them. Terrible!
Stephen Bond yup. We can only serve outside in LA so they took over the restaurants patio next door since they closed down for good. So we’re walking even further back and forth to serve tables outside. Probably a good 75 ft from our door to the tables. And people are so demanding and rude it’s super strange. I thought people would be happy to get out and be respectful but it’s far from it. So weird.

Not at all. Anything is appreciated and generous pilots usually hand off the entire tip (in that range) to the FA. We don’t work for tips
When and where did younger people get the idea that it is ok to snoop onto someone's personal financials and ask them how much money they make? That's just lacking in etiquette and flat rude. Ranking in there as a close second and third is asking a woman you don't know how much do you weigh and and old are you.
