I really liked the heads-up display in the cockpit, the seat numbers written out in Hawaiian, and the light settings throughout the cabin. Looking forward to flying on this aircraft.
this is a big time upgrades over their A330 they have and looks much better in everything that 787 have to offer…. ill be looking forward to that when hawaiian will finally send 787 to SEA for the flights to either OGG or HNL or even KOA ( i know hawaiian doesnt have direct flignts to sea nonstop but they need to do that)
Congrats Boeing do an amazing job in designing the 787 Dreamliner using technology. I like how they did Hawaiian Airlines interior cabins & exterior. Thanks sharing.
From left to right you have the headphone jack ports, a USB-A port and then the USB-C port. USB-C is now the standard connection port for all new phones, tablets, and laptops across the Apple, Microsoft/PC, and Android product lines.
except for those against a bulkhead, usually in the rear or in front of the mid section, all seats had some recline. I didn't check the armrests but hope it is standard like other 787 aircraft.@@leannetidwell-schlegel7478
Glad to see the interior of this aircraft. Boeing and Hawaiian Air have done a great job with this plane. Looking forward to flying on this new aircraft.
Glad you received my comments w/ an open heart in the spirit of a true Native Hawaiian. Here are 3 possibly useful hacks: 1. With a focus on the ‘ōkina (glottal stop markers, as in “Ka’a’awa”) & 2. Attention to the kahahō (macrons, as in “Wahiawā”), pronunciation will come more naturally. 3. A video assistant would hugely help so you would have both hands free to handle things like pressing 2 control buttons simultaneously. This would also allow you to appear in front of the cam, a much more personal touch for your audience. I would volunteer as an assistant myself were I retired at home (Maui) instead of on the Mid-Atlantic East Coast. I think story swap would be fun. Wishing you continued success! Aloha!
I had business in Hawaii and I would only fly Hawaiian Airlines. They have great service and as soon as you are seated you knew you were in for a cultural experience. Now that I’m retired I only fly to Hawaii once a year versus 5 times. I hope the 787 comes to Vegas so I can travel in style.
On the 787's at my company, the mirrors are installed in the overhead lockers where the emergency equipments are located. The oxygen bottles are laid out in rows, and the mirror allows us to see the gauges and that they are full. But in this case maybe initially that bin was for similar stowage. Also the IFE monitors were stowed down beside the seat that you wondered about.
The mirrors are a pretty common product... they are to see the floor of the overhead bin to check for contents... both for passengers and for staff performing security search.
And for those of you that will miss the 2-4-2 layout so you can just sit with your friend... there still are a couple of rows that only have 2 seats. Though they are by the lavs...
Thank you for sharing your tour of this aircraft. Yes, in the Economy mid- cabin area sitting in the bulk head window seating is better to me. I would not sit in the middle bulk head seating especially while boarding. I think that the extra door design in that Economy mid-section bathroom could be a crossover space into the other side bathroom giving more space needed for a medical situation.
The Extra Comfort seats look very nice. For me, I would be seating in the first bulk head row after Business Class. The Business Class seats in the middle section are very nice with separate panels. And each seat has a door panel as well!😊 Very nice for the long-haul trip in general.😊 The fuselage outside design is really nice color scheme to look at. I am glad you walk under the tail back area outside!!😊 So, I think the airlines that area letting the 767 retire slowly want the newer modern 787 to take their place in their fleets. Furthermore, the Pilot rest area looks nice along with the one seating is nice. But now where is the Flight Attendants rest area? I wonder if the Flight Attendants rest area is down stairs similar to many 777s cabin rest area sections. Staying with the Boeing Aircraft theme, many Flights Attendants loved the upstairs crew rest area in the 747-400s. That space was in the ceiling right next to the part if the tail
Yes, the Flight Attendants crew rest area being a part of the tail beginning area. Well, again thank you for the tour of this beautiful aircraft. She, the aircraft, looks beautiful!!😊😊
that "jack" is the latest plug for power/etc. I think it replaced the old usb plug that with constant use, would wear out. As for the little mirror on the overhead...I think its built so that flight attendants and passengers can LOOK end to end of the luggage compartment (like a wide angle fisheye) so everything is out!
Great video tour of the new Hawaiian 787! Well narrated and great video coverage of the plane. Cool video of the cockpit and crew rest area! Looking forward to flying on this new Hawaiian airlines plane. Thank you for posting this video!
The "door" looking thing between the two center lavatories is able to be opened/removed by the crew so that a wheelchair can fit inside (has the two lavatories combined for extra floor space). This removes the requirement to have one really big lavatory that is going to always take up space that could have been used for an extra row of seats.
You’re welcome! I hosted a group from the ADA advisory panel from Amtrak once on board a new Airbus A321 for my then employer to look at new lavatory features (our configuration had two rear lavatories with a removable wall). For those using a wheelchair, they liked this a lot better than typical widebody bigger bathroom because it has many more handholds, two toilets to option between at slightly different angles, etc. It allowed them a lot more options to move about in a way most comfortable for them.
@@flyoma Wow! I think that will be the first flight to Hawai'i, paired with your first trip to Hawai'i, special! I am booked to SFO on the 16th but my plans may change last minute, fingers crossed.
@@suitesandlobbies Actually it is the 16th SFO-HNL (I guess the first flight is HNL-SFO departing the 15th) it looks like. I actually booked this flight back when it was announced (Hawaii is the only US state I have not been to), and it morphed into a round the world trip continuing onward.
Great video Will have to see what else he has posted. This didn't have crazy graphics and the same old hiphop music in the background. Just good calm detailed focus on the most relevant things. Thanks!
I’m very excited about being one of the first passengers to fly on this new 787-9 Dreamliner. My wife and I will be one of the first passengers flying out of San Francisco to Honolulu on May 5th. We chose the extra comfort seats 💺 in the front of the plane.
Beautiful interior! I prefer the A330's 2-4-2 layout but do prefer the 787's premium cabin. I hope fly on this aircraft on their BOS-HNL route someday.
I might be a vocal minority but Hawaiian really should’ve thought of adding a dedicated true premium economy section. If this was to be a game changing aircraft truly designed to compete with mainline carriers like United or Delta, then premium economy would’ve absolutely stood out. (Especially for domestic Hawaii flights)
i don't know why but I am proud of this new plane and this airline. I live in Maryland but we try to get to Hawaii once a year. i have been there 16 or 17 times and I love Hawaiian airlines.
Welcome back and thanks for the wonderful review of the dreamliner, Hawaiian Airlines is my carrier of choice when I travel to Hawaii, nice to see seatback video screens again, alot of airlines are eliminating them, curious as to what video screens will be available for the extra comfort bulkhead seats, my guess is they will hand out tablets for those passengers,
Exterior of the plane nice. Hopefully the seats on Boeing 787 Dreamliner don't feel cheap and hard as the Hawaiian Airlines inter island planes the Boeing 717. I get it to be eco friendly. Now Air New Zealand did an outstanding job on their seats.
The LAX Hawaiian Airlines terminal is in the international terminal and is a good 15-20 minute walk to the terminal. The main reason I prefer Hawaiian Airlines is because of the 2-4-2 configuration and I don’t have to sit next to anyone I don’t know. I’m not sure I would continue to like it as much with the new configuration.
Excellent points to consider. I follow a lot of conversations in travel groups and many inexperienced flyers ask what the best airline is for xx destination. I always encourage them to consider the aircraft in addition to the airline because of points you mentioned. Will be interesting to follow customer comments on the configuration once flights commence in April. LAX is another story 😂.
When it comes to gate assignments at airports, airlines do NOT have a choice on the terminal/gate they have to use. Do you honestly think they’d want to be at such a far gate?
HNL assigns gates to incoming aircraft. There are no preassigned gates in Honolulu meaning there are no Hawaiian area no Delta, United and so on. Airlines have there planes all mixed up parked at the gates.
I think the intent after flying to the west coast for a bit is to indeed use this for long haul flights like Boston. They have more coming in so we shall see.
So you pay for first class - but where do you store your in-flight stuff? Purse, ipad, laptop? Do you keep having to go to the overhead to retrieve what you need? Who designs these planes anyway. And the 3x3x3 for Premium Economy is horrible. Are any A330 being used now between SFO and HNL?
Yeah that 3x5x3 in economy is not popular at all. Currently Hawaiian Airlines does have A330 and A321neo flying these west coast routes. This aircraft is intended to handle the longer flights to Boston, Sydney and other long haul destination.
Not on this aircraft yet, they initially released on their 321neos and I believe about half now have Wifi. They are rolling it out to more aircraft over time, my guess is the A330 will be next but I wonder if the coverage extends out on International routes, will look into that.
Interestingly the business class bathroom, only 1, is the exact same as the others on the aircraft. I took a look at it and forgot to mention it in the video. I think the Captain had just offered to show me the crew sleeping quarters so I got distracted.
That rear or back of the cabin, is the flight attendants galley! It’s not quite the crew area! There is a crew rest area, used for long flights, which these Dreamliner’s will be doing.
Beautiful aircraft. Unfortunately, HA doesn't fly into DFW which is actually surprising to me. I would have to get down to Austin or go out to Phoenix to fly with them which doesn't make sense at this point. So for now, it's still American.
I have flown on AA's 787 as well and it is very nice. I think AA has DFW wrapped up tight but maybe if the Alaska buyout goes through.....we shall see.
Seems like a pretty good aircraft honestly. In my opinion they should’ve opted out for the 787-10 instead to squeeze in more passengers but it’s better than the aging A330 for sure
Great aircraft, but awful that Hawaiian is going away from the 2-4-2 configuration - packing you like sardines and yes some very few seats of 2-2 configuration in the back close to the laboratories. Since it will take a while to replace the entire fleet when I fly to Hawaii will book the Airbus 330.
@@Keepontravelling my understanding is both the 787-8 and 787-9 can come with premium economy, it is up to the airline on how they want the aircraft configured seat wise. Hawaiian chose not to have premium economy on their 787 aircraft. You will find it on some AA and UA 787s though.
@@suitesandlobbies ok so Airlines customize their planes interesting 🙂. I noticed that Virgin Atlantic has a premium economy option on their aircrafts.
Yes, customized versions of the Adient Aerospace Ascent seat and I hear soon to be coming to American Airlines' Boeing 787-9s and 777-300ERs Flagship cabins.
Alaska is a loyal Boeing customer and got rid of all the Airbus fleet from the Virgin America even the almost brand new 321neo. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hawaiian will become an all Boeing fleet
Wow great footage. Thanks for the detail and many different angles and lighting. As for Alaska Airlines merge/buyout I’m so bummed! Hawaiian airlines is so unique in their quality, experience, and staff. Alaska is going to ruin that. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts…it’s not for Ohana, it’s for $$😢
It’s beautiful new airplane , love the interior. Now they just need to work on the in cabin service, because they are quite bad and the food 🙈. I’m comparing with all other airlines like Singapore airlines or Qatar etc
I like the 787 first class than the Hawaiian A330 first class. Hope Hawaiian renovates the A330 interior soon. Still prefer the 2-4-2 of the A330 than the 3-3-3 of the 787.
OMG Have you never flown before? Mirrors are to make sure you haven't left anything in the bins when you leave. It's "lavatory"......not "bathroom"!! The "Tray tables" you referred to at the bulk heads are actually the video monitors for those sitting in the first row! Push the release button to free it from its housing. Finally you were in the handicapped lavatory at door 3. The partitions open up to allow a full wheel chair to enter. Notice the extra large door? There was no secret compartment!!! You also usually push (where it says push) to enter! geeze!
I really liked the heads-up display in the cockpit, the seat numbers written out in Hawaiian, and the light settings throughout the cabin. Looking forward to flying on this aircraft.

The 787 Dreamliner is an amazing machine, it’s my favorite airplane!
The mirror in each bin is to assist crew and passengers alike to determine if there was anything left behind. Also this is useful for security checks.
Mirrors are installed in overhead bins for people to see if they’ve left anything behind in the bin without having to climb up on seats.

I thought Hawaiian was going to stick with the A330 neos😢
The A330s they do have are on lease till 2026 and with the potential Alaska buy out things could change quite a bit. We shall see…🤙🏼🤙🏼
I wouldn’t be surprised if Hawaiian will become an all Boeing fleet after Alaska buy out.
It’s going to be interesting if Alaska keeps the 787 or will they sell it off
Alaska has made statements in the past of being all Boeing but with all that is going on who know.
Alaska is a loyal Boeing customer and got rid of all the Airbus fleet from the Virgin America even the almost brand new 321neo. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hawaiian will become an all Boeing fleet
You have to pay extra for EXTRA COMFORT seats. Other airlines charge extra for those seats.
That is a "type C" USB jack
Just watched it land at SFO an hour ago, non-revenue flight.
Nice!
That’s a USB-C port. A newer edition to the USB family.
Wow great footage. Thanks for the detail and many different angles and lighting. As for Alaska Airlines merge/buyout I’m so bummed! Hawaiian airlines is so unique in their quality, experience, and staff. Alaska is going to ruin that. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts…it’s not for Ohana, it’s for $$😢
Made in America! USA! USA! USA!
It’s beautiful new airplane , love the interior. Now they just need to work on the in cabin service, because they are quite bad and the food 🙈. I’m comparing with all other airlines like Singapore airlines or Qatar etc
the inflight entertainment has a USB-C and USB-A plug
You also usually push (where it says push) to enter! geeze!
Hey just curious, are you on the Autism spectrum?
Stop touching things……….this is why we can’t have nice things! Lol J/K great review!
Lol, thank you!!
Do you really want to fly in an aircraft made by Boeing?
As long as it isn’t the 737max lol
Like any other airline I guess JUST NEED THAT BUNNY BODY KIT AND A SUPER CHARGER
