  • Wellington is my favourite city in New Zealand, it has such a welcoming and funky vibe. In this vlog, we explore the city and some of it's many offerings. The Wellington cable car, Te Papa museum, craft breweries, Beervana, Weta and Mount Victoria sunset.

    Wellington is great although nobody moves here for the weather. Quay is pronounced Key.

      That makes total sense about the weather! I imagine if the weather was great, many more people would live there. And thank you!! I've been mispronouncing Quay all my life haha 😂

    What area of town would you recommend staying in for a quick 2 day trip?

      Definitely in the city centre! Te Aro or Lambton Quay. Both are walkable to everything and easy to get to from the airport, train or ferry stations.

    I love Wellington so much - I lived there for a year about 25yrs ago and sometimes wish I never left. The first time my partner and I met up in person was in Wellington, another reason I love it so much! It was March and perfect weather when we were there ❤ Another great video showing so much. I always love getting a notification that you have a new one up!

    The motorbike at .54.
    John Britten was a Kiwi legend .
    Him and his team literally built the bikes from scratch in his shed .
    The Britten went on to not only compete against but to dominate over multi million dollar factory teams in its class of racing .
    The bike is both beautiful as art and a work of outstanding engineering genus.
    Part of Kiwi culture is the term "number 8 wire" used to represent the ingenuity and resourcefulness of New Zealanders, Number 8 wire denotes the ability to create or repair machinery using whatever scrap materials are available on hand.
    Another great example of Kiwi number eight mentality was Sir Eds trip to the south pole in basic agricultural tractors.
    Not as photogenic as Brittens bike one of the tractors is on display at MOTAT in Auckland with a second in the Canterbury Museum collection.

    I love seeing my city through the eyes of a visitor. If you're back for Beervana next year, the Friday night session is good and nothing was sold out. If you've got a loud beer/Hawaiian shirt you can join our group haha!

    I do wonder how much longer Wellington can exploit the LOTR. Those films are over twenty years old now ...yet there is an entire subculture around them that still attracts fans.

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heck yeah! My partner and I still watch them at least once a year. It's definitely got a cult following and The Rings of Power has helped reignite that.

    Not sure if multiple comments from one person helps with the algorithm but I have another shaky Islands information drop. Just over the Remutaka Hill about 50km north east of Wellington is evidence of the greatest ever on-land fault movements. The land moved 18.5 metres in a single event! They can tell because of a small, mostly dry, stream on the slope left cuts in the lower part. We get a little wobbly here sometimes but it makes us even wierder so it's cool. We also secretly like Canada more then Australia, but don't tell anyone, its national secret because Australia adores us and we don't want to hurt their feelings... except in sport, it's ok to hurt their feelings in sport.

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  ปีที่แล้ว

      So cool!! Would love to return and explore some of the fault lines you've mentioned. We love you guys too!!

      Shush. The Australians are looking at us.😊

    Wellington is so dramatic, so windy umbrellas are a waste of time but on a fine spring day it's the most beautiful place. It's also built on a major fault line! You can walk along it in places and infrastructure is built not to straddle the fault where possible or built to move as the fault moves. California drive in Upper Hutt has the fault in the middle of the road they put a divider on it so the road should still work if the fault moves. The shakyness is what gives Wellington it's character. 😊

      So cool!! Wellington is truly one of a kind and we can't wait to return. There were so many souvenirs with the phrase "can't beat Wellington on a good day" and I love that, so true.

      Absolutely! We probably spent close to 6 hours in there total and really only absorbed half of it.
