Comparing high-end and drugstore makeup after 8 hours of wear would be interesting.
Yes, please. More wear tests!
Absolutely, drugstore wear tests don’t seem to crop up very often on YT so would be great to see the difference!
I would love this! Picking products for longevity for my wedding, it’s a challenge!
I also would like to see the wear test
Exactly! Longevity is very important. The elf putty bronzers just don’t last on me at all. Unless I’m applying it wrong..
Just an FYI in case people out there don’t know, most ColourPop palettes can be depotted because the pans are held in the cardboard magnetically.
That way, you can put them in a custom palette of your own making, mix-and-match shades, or “dupe” high end palettes if that’s your thing 😊
ty!
WHAAAAAAAAAAT 🤯
omg thank you for this info!! I didn’t know this
I was today year's old when I learned......😂😂😂
Whaaaaaaaat!?!? I’m SO doing this!!! 🤯😄
Nikki is so well spoken and clearly intelligent. I have so much respect for make-up artists that are comfortable with drugstore items!
I’m obsessed with the long longgggg long form content
Your comparison reviews are great. Often other content creators just compare the finished look directly after application, but you describe the application process and any difficulties, which is an important consideration. And, I like that you tell us how the products wear throughout the day. Thanks!
I would LOVE to see someone do a foundation test by having another person put the various foundations in generic jars that are all the same. Use high end, low end..all of it. Number the jars so it’s truly a blind test and then try them and tell us the top five or so. And since they’re numbered it would be a surprise to us (and to you too0 when the big reveal happened.
Yes, placebo controlled tests are essential
AGREE!!
99% luxury fondation have a sent to it, and not just vanilla or something generic it smells like a perfume. I think you can guess which is which before applying it. But there are some videos comparing different products with blind test, by scientist, where they guess the price tag on TH-cam (spoiler alert : they guess right which is more expensive 95% of the time )
Good, GOOD idea!!!
Love this idea!
I’m a working MUA based in NYC. I gatta tell ya Nikki, this was a really cool comparison. Super subtle differences. That stated, my clients want to see LUXURY coming out of my kit. One session to hear feedback of, “Your using drugstore?” was enough for me. Happy New Year full of happiness and wonderful little surprises 🎉
Oh the way I relate to this!!! 100 percent I know the feeling!
I have to admit that if I'm going to spend the $$$$ to get my makeup professionally applied ( which I would totally be willing to do) I would want high end products to be used. I love drugstore and luxury makeup but if I'm paying for the service I would want more luxurious products to enhance the experience.
I would agree…paying to have my makeup done by a professional makeup artist I would expect luxury 💄!
Although, it must be said, everyone likes a bargain. Introducing a drugstore super performer and maybe gifting a few can go a long way towards enhancing your customers’ experience. Dropping tips or tricks is something that anyone would like.
So interesting to hear different takes on this, esp since high end doesn’t necessarily mean better performing. I totally get your sentiment though!
Hi Nikki, I think the side with the drugstore products looks BETTER then the other side- the makeup looks more natural and lighter and fresher! Great video as always
Agree
The elf bronzer and highlighter product really chiselled her face.
💯 agree! I love the Essence mascara, especially the $5 price 😳
A video of our makeup queen to entertain us this Saturday!!!
The Milani eyeshadow primer is my go-to. You may have used too much product. I only need a tiny dot for both eyes and it will cover the entire area from the brow all the way down the lid. I spread it with my finger since I use so little product. I have mature, very hooded eyes and with this primer my shadow never creases.
I use it too, have for several years. I’m almost 47.
I agree, I love Milani eyeshadow primer also. I have very hooded eyes, I'm 58, it works for me.
I'm 52
Elf is really stepping up their game! I have and use quite a few of their products/brushes, their price point can’t be beat, and I love them all!! Thank you for showing all these products, side by side!! So helpful!!
I love your videos but may I suggest in the future a collab video with a creator who is more familiar with drugstore options. You pick the Luxury items and the other creator matches your pick with drugstore. There were so many items where in my opinion that there are better or closer drugstore options available. ❤
Like Emily Noel ❤
@@monicapatton1405 YES! Perfect choice!
This is such a good idea!! I would love a collab like this
With the milani shadow primer you only use a tiny amount. It’s key and then it’s fabulous! ❤
Good to know!!!
Yes…and warm it up between your fingers you will love it…
Having recently got a job where I can now afford to indulge in luxury products- I really enjoy them. The experience of opening up lovely packaging, the cases of the makeup being beautiful. The texture of the makeup, skin friendly ingredients, feel, lasting power- all this makes a lot of luxury makeup worth it for me. Ive been enjoying the gucci eyeshadow and cream blush quad in summerina brown- its a great product that you can do pretty much eyes, lips, cheeks and contour with. Thanks for the video Nikki.
I difference is really noticeable the older you get. I tried all the low end “dupes” and it never translated as such on my 50+ yo skin.
I agree 100%!
I just wait for sales. Also chase has 10% back on Sephora with chase freedom card. Wells Fargo has a similar offer with Ulta
@@TracyD2 luxury makeup is historically formulated with an older audience in mind, so I’ve found it 100% better and easier to work with on mature skin! And not the Natasha Denona type of luxury, but the Chanel/Dior/Guerlain/Sisley kind. It’s why young influencers don’t like La Mer products, they’re for an older audience!
I had lost my lust for make up over the last year. Your videos have me excited again. Big love beautiful 💖
Thank you for all the time you spend to explain every step. You're a great teacher.
I drop everything for your major comparison videos! I have 55yo combo oily skin and prefer "satin" finish products. This is challenging because everything is dewy, glowy, radiant, etc. And because of my mature textured skin, I avoid layering a lot of product.
The powdery formula of NYX micro brow pencil works on my oily Tzone. The essence lash princess waterproof works on my short Asian lashes and holds the curl.
Nikki, I can' tell you how much I rely on and appreciate your channel. No one does a better job providing such professional, clear, concise, thorough reviews and demonstrations of products. You are so talented and a natural at what you do. A thousand thank yous for your hard work. I continue to take away so much from your videos. Please don't ever "retire". Signed, one of your biggest fans!❤
The Lash Princess looks amazing if layered over L’Oréal Voluminous mascara! I have short, sparse lashes and the Lash Princess just doesn’t give any volume (I look like a lame spider)…so I discovered that by using the Voluminous first (2 Coates), it acts as a primer, then the LP as a topper (1 coat just before the L’Oréal sets). It elongates the already thickened lashes.
Voluminous in Canada is cheap at Walmart ($10) and LP is $5.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart. $16 for 6 months supply 😂
I’ve tried soooo many ridiculously expensive brands, hoping for a one shot deal but not a single one outshined the drugstore combo. I’ve now surrendered, only use the cheap combo and save my money for other, more worthy splurges 🙌💃🏼
Heard that Moria set & correct finishing powder is a good dupe for Givenchy. And for cream bronzer, i like the Revolution better than the elf. But I broke down and did buy the LYS stick bronzer on your loving it. I think a lot of people watch you because it was sold out on a light sites.
This is beautiful! I hope you can continue this comparing high and low end makeup products as a series in your channel❤❤❤
I still prefer my Mac paint pot. It’s matte and it just works better than any other eye primer i’ve tried!
Yes! I have it in Painterly. Even just by itself it looks good. And you get so much product. Worth every penny.
I love my max paint pot in painterly
I'm a simple girl for eye stuff and it's perfect
@@lindamayer4697 YES GIRL! 🥰
I have terrible acne scarring, large pores, and texture, and I love the elf halo glow setting powder! I feel it gives a lovely glow without emphasizing all of the above. Every skin is different, I guess.
I’m like anyone else and have a few key items that I must have. I am selective of what I use because my skin is sensitive, but also if something works best for me and it’s more on the higher cost level. I’m going to keep using it. Same applies to a drugstore item. If it works best and it’s drugstore, then that’s what I’m buying. For me, it’s more about what works best and lasts the longest.
I completely agree ❤
I love the e.l.f. Halo Glow as a finishing powder, but never under my eyes (because of the "glow"). It's perfect over the rest of the face. Under the eyes...try e.l.f Prime and Stay finishing powder....perfect smoothness (and I have lots of lines!!).
I think the highend side got a bang with hourglass palette in the end. The difference is very clear. Thanks for doing this!
This is my favorite video to watch on a Saturday, drugstore makeup keeps on getting better all the time . Thank you 😃
Omg, I recently discovered that Rimmel Bronzer on Amazon! Yes, incredibly inexpensive, BUT it blends so well. It has a nice lovely color. I got the Sun Light but will probably try Sun Bronze into the warmer months. I rarely can "overdo it" with that one. Seems to melt right into my skin. When I see myself in pics or on camera, I always think it just looks like a nice glow and got a bit of sun. (I think it was under $4!)
You need to try the moira loose powder in comparison with the givenchy loose powder!
I love it! I love everything from that brand though. The eyeliners 🤌🏼 chef’s kiss!
I’ve loved so many recommendations from you. I have to tell you for me you just don’t miss. Thnx for sharing all your experience. We’re lucky to have you in the makeup community ❤🎉
I've been using both the Neutrogena concealer and the Rimmel Powder Bronzer for about a year now...I love them both. The Rimmel is a staple, especially in the summer months here in Texas as it is waterproof!!! I also LOVE the Nars and Hourglass. Love them all!!!!
❤ After searching high and low for Talc free powder bronzers I found NARS and HOURGLASS -- in LOVE!! 😊
In this age of shorts and reels, I love these long format videos from you! I prefer the shade black for the Nyx brow pencil, we have similar skin tones and hair color. I also found the color espresso was too warm, although I use the color espresso for the Lift and Snatch brow gel from Nyx. I like the packaging of the Lift and Snatch gel because it's a small wand in a squeeze tube, and it allows me to really get a lot of product on the wand which I then use in the way that you use the Elf Brow Wow.
I think the biggest difference was the blush and highlight. Hourglass blush is nicer, I prefer more matte blush. But the colorpop highlighter was much smoother looking. The Neutrogena concealer is interesting because I go thru the Nars one so quickly that it's hard to justify the price.
I thought the same thing. The blush and highlighter tipped the scale for the luxury side for me. However, both sides looked great.
I love Hourglass but not gonna lie I overall like the cheek area on the drugstore side 🤔 also that Maybelline lip is one of my favorite formulas of any high end or drugstore it feels AMAZING on. Definitely not like a traditional liquid lip. They have gorgeous colors and don’t accentuate fine lines. Thanks for this, great video!
Do you know what color she’s using? It’s not linked.
After trying SO MANY concealers (NARS, Ilia, Tarte, ). The BEST one is the good old Maybelline concealer with the sponge.. the best. Thanks you for the guidance, you’re never wrong .. joanne
We don't see the difference between expensive and cheap products. You can have very classy makeup with good drugstore products. I have the "RIMMEL" bronzer that I'm using at the moment and yes it's fantastic. Thank you for this video Nikki
🌺🌺🌺
I totally agree
Can you mention which shade of rimmel bronzer you are on ?
I can’t tell the difference from side to side. You are beautiful. I can never get my makeup to look like you do it. My face looks best without much makeup. Thank you for you videos
I’m chuckling now at my makeup attempts before finding you. Omg…..I did some goofy stuff. Finally feeling confident I’m at least applying correctly. Thanks so much for helping me not look like a clown. 😂😂😂 Still learn lots with every new video. You’re the best!
I’m with you. 😂
I love the ELF halo glow underneath! It looks amazing in my under eyes ❤
Question, does it smooth the undereye skin? Never thought of this thank you!
@@tracevicente It kind of does. What it more does for me is brighten and even out the coloration! I use the Tom Ford highlight shade in the Shade and Illuminate duo for the same thing. It also makes my concealer go on smoother
Ohhhh, your voice sounds stronger, and I hope you’re feeling much better💞
Haven’t watched the video yet but comparing the thumbnail, the left side is prettier. The color is more nuanced and has more impact. Love the look. Gorgeous. ❤
The Milani Eyeshadow Primer needs to sit on the eye for 30 seconds. It says that right on the packaging. Is a great Primer. But for hooded eyes, I'd recommend something less creamy with a faster dry down OR keep your eyes closed for the 30 seconds
🎉happy new year. I am so pleased to see your channel is growing. I love that you are one of the makeup artists who still do tutorials.
I love the touch up kit, I provide the bride with lipsticks or gloss but the kit is great! Very helpful in general, thanks for taking the time to show how you organize everything!
This video is SO good. Thank you Nikki!!
I would like a video teaching how to use prisme libre powder from Givenchy and Ambient Lightning Palette from Hourglass. I still don't see the difference between those formulas ans finishes, but i know they have a different purpose.
The variety of textures in the *luxdups* pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
Love the makeup look!! I saw another creator, comparing the Colorpop 11:11 with ND is almost identical.
Elf halo glow is now available in shade medium neutral olive 3.5 and it is a great tone I think you would enjoy! ❤
It was sold out when I went to grab it so I settled for 2 😭
The NYX epic ink liner or the physicians formula liner are amazing!
I think this is so great. Some I can afford a d others are purchased at Sephora. That place is overwhelming. So I appreciate your videos!,! Thank you!
I always see this kind of video (dupes) in my feed from other beauty channels … but i have to say i needed makeup artist dupes list
so so true!! The explanation!
Revlon colorstay eyeshadow primer is awesome. I have Nars eyeshadow primer also and I love them both.
I didn’t even know they made one! Thanks.
You give me serious Cher vibes! Is it just me? Love it!
What an excellent review of high vs low!! Thanks so much Nikki!!
I have a potentially better duplicate powder for your Givenchy= Moira Set & Correct Loose Setting Powder. Glitzy Fritzy recommended it for those of us on a tighter budget. I've yet to try the Givenchy poweder myself, but the Moira one seems pretty nice.
When I want to wear very little basic coverage to run errands, I love using my Tower 28 concealer as well as some bronzer, blush and mascara. I have to have a little bit of color on my eyes so I have a matte taupe shadow to give my eyes a little bit of distinction.
Naturally I am zooming in but over all it looks very similar, cohesive and beautiful. I guess I’m zig zagging here but I love the high end eye shadow, both under eyes but the Givenchy powder I think is what works with both. The drug store cheek Milani blush is lovely and sublime and the Chanel lip maybe the shade and sealer but it looks gorgeous. Fun video, thanks for sharing it.
I loove Benefit brow product! The only brow product i use is the Benefit 24h Brow Setter and the Precisely, My Brow Pencil. It's just the best. ⭐
7:55 I can really see a difference in the tone from warm to cool in the brow pencils. It will be very interesting to see how the formulas last during the day.
12:10 I figured that the NYX pencil wouldn’t be able to stand up to the NYX brow setter. ☹️
The eyeshadows both look so gorgeous! No complaints. 💖
The foundations look very nice. I won’t make any snarky comments.
At the end of this informative tutorial, you are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful!
I’m
Typically all about high end makeup. I’m truly obsessed. But at the moment, I’m super end the the Physician’s Formula butter concealer. It’s very similar to the Tower 28.
I agree that the milani primer is interesting. I actually switch between that and the two faced primer. I use the milani with drier eyshadow formulas like colourpop. Usually I use a little dot and blend it with my finger. You don't need much. I also used too much the first couple times I used it.
I'm discovering so many cool products from you. Just got the Benefit and KVD liners. Thanks and I hope you're feeling better after being sick recently.
What about the Moira 3 color loose powder similar to the Givechy prism libre? Would love your comparison thoughts on that.
Everything looks great the only thing that comes across camera are the lip colors, but still both beautiful thank you for sharing!
I will say I saw you reviewing elf lip on Instagram and LOVED your eye make up. I have never bought colour pop and dont even often wear shadows. I bought it right away, along with a cheek palette amd some lux glosses on sale. Excited for them to arrive. The eyes looked so pretty on you. Thanks for the long comparison tutorial
Definitely high end side has better bronzer, blush and highlighter work. It looks pristine and more polished while the drugstore side looks a bit worn out, pale, not giving enough.” And the lips on high end side look juicier and smoother. Beside brows everything else looks so similar. I wonder how it wears after few hours and specially in hot weather or if active a lot
That is such a great tip for picking a brow gel! I’ve never thought about the spoolie and how it wouldn’t deposit product on my thin brows. Great tip!
I think you’d like the Maybelline Express Brow ultra slim pencil in ash brown. It’s the one I use, ashy brown, thin, and you don’t need as much pressure when applying.
I want to thank you for the wonderful video you made. I loved it, especially your honesty which is so important to us consumers. Speaking of comparisons, I feel that the drugstore side of the video made you look naturally beautiful, while the high-end side made you look like you were wearing more noticeable makeup. You look very beautiful, but it seemed more like you were wearing beautiful expensive makeup
I’m so glad I found your channel! I’ve learned so much already! Looking forward to all of your future content. 😊
Great video, Nikki! Loved how you tested these products back to back. That Halo glow is a staple for me in the winter months, and I use it as a foundation (just a tiny pea-sized) amount over some simple underpainting. Gives me amazing, natural glow 😊
I wish I could love the milni baked blushes but I can never get them to look good on me:( Ive tried them over the years, but they all seem to emphasize my texture. But, I have lots of sun spots along my cheeks and undereyes, so I feel like it's not the best formula for my skin type
I use a subtle highlighter from Ulta. I love the Nude Essence Highlighter. It’s so perfect for my face!! I have a very round face so contour, bronzer and highlight are a mandatory part of my daily makeup. I have used lipstick 💄 for a quick blush before cream blushes became the rage. I use a powder blush over my cream blushes. I have combo skin so if I don’t use a little powder, my makeup disappears
I love the way that you describe how products look and feel. I have been using the Milani eye shadow primer for years and haven’t had an issue with creasing and I have lived in many different climates. I did notice that the high end products looked more pigmented on video but each side looked beautiful on its own. Thank you for sharing 💐
Both sides are gorgeous but the dupe side for me .and hope you are feeling better xx
Nikki you have the best style! Could you please include links to where you get your outfits?
I know we’re here for makeup but I’d love details on your jewelry- always so cute!
ugh me too!! I was admiring the whole time!
I love the comparison videos from high and to drugstore because it helps me know where I want to spend my money. And I’m new to your channel, but I’ve watched a few videos now and you’re very trustworthy, so I feel like I can take your word for what is worth it and what isn’t. I can tell the difference in your under eyes and with the blush. I have the Milani baked blushes and I feel like the color dissipates quickly.
Love this video! Thank you ❤
There is other Colourpop palette that can match the I Need a Nude and it’s the 11-11. I discovered this from Jen Phelps. It isn’t a shade for shade but there are enough to do a beautiful look. You might want to watch Jen’s video. Also I love the Milan’s Conceal and Correct foundation. I remember the the first reviews were not good. I don’t remember the specifics but I have always loved it. I can do without concealer usually. Thanks for your great videos.
Honestly the side with drugstore makeup looks better . Thank you for showing us the comparison dear beautiful Nikki.🙏❣️💋
The note cosmetics baked powder is so like the hourglass ambient lighting powders x
The Valentino foundation looks gorgeous!
I am loving the Give eyebrow more than ABH eyebrow now. Much easier to use.
Nikki, a drugstore eyeshadow primer you might like is Ulta beauty matte eyeshadow primer. It conceals, and not greasy
Hi Nikki! For drugstore brow pencils, I recommend the LA Girl shady slim brow pencil, it’s all I use, it’s very thin just like the ABH one and the undertone of the “blackest brown” shade is super cool toned and ashy which I need because my hair is very similar to yours and I have light skin as well. They sell it for like $4 at Ulta.
What an awesome video Nikki! Thank you for the comparison
I've heard that ColourPop's 11:11 palette is possibly an affordable alternative to the I Need a Nude palette. Or similar color stories at least! I could definitely see it looking at it online.
18:42 I’m so glad you hate those eye shadow primers, I hear so much good about them and I thought it was operator error on my part
OMG when you applied the Prisme Libre powder my jaw dropped at the effect. The moment I finish my Huda,Givenchy has to land in my basket!
A wonderful comparison. I could see moré différence in the eyebrows, and
No I also experienced the skippery Milani été primer. It seemed transparent and in. A freely effective as an eye primer. The complexion comparison was stunnung. And the marriage of the two lipsticks was incredible. A wrthwhile vidéo. Thanks so much.
That might have been the best explanation of the essence formula I’ve ever heard
...and the drugstore brow products, aalways seem to be so warm toned, I just don't wanna struggle with drugstore stuff, when I found my holy grails and where I just know, that thry will perform the way I want to, in my drugstore years I ran every week into the stores to rebuy etc; with my high end products they last sooo much longer, at the end of the day I don't spend more on my high end products, as I did with drugstore, and with the price point drugstores are coming up now, nooo way I ever would switch.....
Honestly I think the CT flawless filter is better than the elf dupe.
I've tried both, for reference I have combo acne prone skin .
The way I use this is only on my cheek area and it feels more lightweight and gives more of a smooth texture to my skin and the main reason I think the CT flawless filter is better is that underneath any mattifying products I put on top the glow always shines through . I get the mini version which is around the same price as the elf. Love your videos ❤
Same for my more mature normal/dry skin. The CT Flawless feels more lightweight and juicy.
Thx Nikki - my preference is the drug store side. The elf halo glow colour looked more complimentary to your skin tone and went on very smooth on camera. I also preferred the Maybelline lip - but tbf it was the colour that did it for me! Thx for helping us save our pennies xx
Where do most of you get your makeup from? Sephora? ULTA? Or department stores like Nordstrom’s?
Hi. I think the drugstore side looks amazing, it looks so natural and healthy. Of course the luxury one looks great, the only thing I don't necessarily like as much is the blush on the luxury side. Seems too much for my taste.
I use the cream blush from Fenty and like that it looks like magic to me. So I must be subjective and mostly like the natural vibe of it. You look awesome no matter the brand. ❤
What an outstanding job you did Nikki 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 they are so similar! What a great match with the eyeshadows 🩷🩷🩷 I love that these types of videos and analysts you do offer everyone lower cost options. You definitely do not need to go 100% luxury 100% of the time. This was so fun to watch, as usual I just love YOU and your videos 🫶🏼🥰🙏🏼
I wear very little makeup so can justify paying a little more for things. I LOVE the Clé de Peau concealer. It is easy to use and it never creases and it somehow is worth the crazy price 🤣🙃😉 This is fun to watch - thank you!
As a dry skin person I agree 😅 love the elf halo glow and I wear the shade 2. Since starting my makeup journey, I have been using mainly elf and Charlotte Tilbury but expanding the brands that I use 😊 I’m waiting for your brush set which I’m looking forward to using 😊 love your channel which is entertaining and full of useful information xx
I LOVE this long form content, thank you for sharing ❤
Your makeup looks beautiful.
Thankyou for your insight on what is worth buying
