I visited Andrews this summer and was amazed at how well the plants were staged. Brought back memories when I saw the little blue bench and all the hydrangeas. I was able to get so many ideas from the staging. Was disappointed that I went on a Monday and did not get to see your mother or sister. Employees were so nice and helpful. There will be another trip in my future for sure.

I teach students that a bypass printer is for clean cuts and to only use anvil pruners when you don’t care if you smash the branches because you’re just throwing them in the brush pile. One of my new favorite tools I’ve been using for about two years is the ratchet pruner, with three clicks, it cuts just about anything. It’s so much better than using the long loppers that are so cumbersome.
Morning all you gardening folk. Plants just revitalize me. Being at one with Nature and seeing others thrive as a result. So satisfying. What an amazing experience to wake up everyday knowing that I can smell the blooms.
Douglas doesn't seem to be grieving you. Wandering up is how your pets arrive to you. He's probably helping with critter population. I agree that he may be owned, but he could also be a neighborhood stray. I hosted a catch and release cat his last 5 years. He just wandered around and everyone fed him. Came here one day and never left! He was a great mouser around the hood!
I think they get lonely too. Douglas seems really happy following Laura around. Years ago my husband and I tried keeping two cats indoor/outdoor at different times. But since we worked and they were outdoors during the day in good weather, they both wondered off to a neighbor’s home and found better company. One ended up across the street at a older retired ladies home, and the other wandered down the street to a family with a bunch of children. Even though we tried to give them a good life, I didn’t have the heart to try to make either come back to our house as they seemed much happier at the homes they picked for themselves.
@@lindabacklund2276 Yeah, a lot of people think cats are loners who want to be by themselves. The total opposite is true in all the cats in my life throughout the years. I think doing what is best for them and makes them happy is always the way to go. I'm sure that was tough on you though x

I've been using Super Thrive for over 30 years. It is a life saver for struggling plants and trees. It is definitely something every gardener needs in there arsenal
I moved into my house 10 years ago, and the previous owners had planted a privacy hedge of bamboo, probably 30+ years old. They had put barriers in, but the bamboo grew under it and was taking over our backyard. We just cut it back for years, but it was tiring bc the following spring, it would shoot back up. Defeated, we hired an excavator to come dig it out. He had to dig down almost 4 ft to get all the roots, and we had two full trailer loads of bamboo and roots but so thankful it's gone.
Hi, my last house came with a giant burning bush that was taking over the front sidewalk. I decided to try limbing it up, never having done that before. It turned out beautifully and lived there for several years before I replaced it.
I inherited 3 of them in the house we bought 2 years ago. The branches were 3 and 4 inches thick and were rotted inside. They literally had to be ground out like a tree! Crazy plants.
I inherited seven of them around my deck. They were in rough shape. Two died and I have since removed the rest for things that flower and don't get huge. I kinda hate burning bushes. They are invasive and super common.

True. I see the benefit in being reminded that cost of replacement prohibits sone of us. I do hesitate to replace because I get “attached.” I feel I have adopted it and it must be given every chance to thrive. But I also get that I have a very small garden and should disavow any poor performers. I am in zone 8 and many of the beautiful things they plant do poorly in our heat and humidity. I watched the video with that new Dewalt trimmer, I looked on line, went to Home Depot bought it!!!! boy what a game changer, I do have a Japanese saw I use but this cutter is the best, we’ve been in our house for 37 years now, I do wish Dewalt came up with this cutter years ago, and I also bought the”Laura auger” from power planter!!!! We’re moving in a few years, down sizing 😩😩😩 but I’m all set to start a new adventure in a new yard!!! Thanks for all the encouragement , love you guys

Boot trays! inexpensive boot trays are great. Regarding the starter paper pots, I use boot trays alot, especially for overwintering plants in my garage. Keeps the water seepage contained. I also use them for plants in nursery pots that I have not yet planted out. Great also for potting up plants too...containing the mess.

The gaura is indeed “whirling butterflies,” and it is an outstanding plant all season long. I have tried other gaura varieties, and they all pale in comparison in terms of longevity and robust growth.
Laura, most birds eat the berries for the liquid. So if you had a birdbath, that would help. It’s more likely it’s the water they’re looking for. Same way, if you have issues with birds eating your tomatoes or any other juicy produce. Most likely it’s for the liquid.
@@zormier2002 I have a strawberry patch right next to where my turkeys are housed. We’re overrun with chipmunks. They dug in my seeds as I planted for the season. The seeds I tried to grow in my greenhouse, they dug them up . However, I had no issues with them eating my strawberries. I believe that is because there are water dishes sitting all over for my turkeys and chickens. They free range so there’s a water supply just about everywhere.
I agree with Ann. The only pest pressure I have r birds and squirrels. I’m in Tx which is brutally HOT so I leave dog bowls of water all around the property for cats, dogs, squirrels, birds, etc. I notice that they leave my tomatoes and strawberries alone as long as they have water, but if the water gets used up, then they go after my produce for the water content.
Aaron and Laura: Superthrive is the best product that has been produced for plants. I have been using it for years and I have never ever been diss appointed. As you said it good to use with plants that are struggling. It gives them a tremendous boost. I also use Espoma on everything. Thanks to you I adore Espoma products. They are both on top of my list. 😊
We got my mother in law those pruners for Christmas and she LOVES them and they actually do REALLY well with dead wood. You might just have to give a few cuts. 🥰 They have been a game changer for her!
My cat used to act just like Douglas. Since giving him more and more loves, he is the most loving cat ever. The reason he has picked you Laura is because you are his person. My cat will run from every one else but follows me like a dog begging for attention while hopping in my lap at every opportunity. ❤ cats are weird. Lol
My cat was the same, she would follow me everywhere on our acre and want to be on my lap when I sat down. Sadly, I had to put her to sleep a couple months ago at age 16. She was the best cat ever and I don’t think I will have another.
Douglas brings to mind a poem by John Ciardi, Why no one pets the lion at the zoo. One line is... h really wants someone to pet him, but the trouble is his teeth won’t let him. Sure glad the Douglas is calming down. Thanks for all the garden inspiration.
Aaron, you were talking about the drip system in the college flower beds and possibly mulching the front flower beds and possibly opening up a can of worms when Laura’s Mom called.
For the Paper Pot Starter Set, have you considered using a boot tray to collect the water. My boot tray is 27" X 13" so a bit larger than the paper pot tray.
not sure if someone answered yet, but i believe all dressed up is a weeks roses introduction. it was on the front of one of their catalogues when i was ordering for the nursery i worked at

Just cut the other leaders off, at the base/trunk. It helps to begin the trimming process when they are young, if you do it when they're already larger, you'll have a bare spot for a while until the arborvitae fills in again. Also, it will expose brown internal areas that were sun deprived. They will fill out again, but it will take time, and not look so pretty for a while. Tying them together will increase internal die-off of the leaves. Also, purchase plants that have one leader, or alternatively, cut additional leader off at planting, and check them yearly.
I have one of those philodendrons from a slip that someone gave me and did not know that they new growth was yellow! I was worried something was amiss with the plant, thank you for the info and now I will leave those yellow leaves on the plant :)
The difference in weight in the Dewalt batteries is very noticeable. However, the smaller, thinner ones don’t last nearly as long on a charge. So you need more of them to last as long on a job as you do the bigger batteries.
Yes! Bamboo in Texas is invasive!!!!! My Mom and Dad rented their house out. Four years later when they returned to their home their neighbor had planted bamboo and it crossed from their yard all the way across my parents' yard. They had it cut down many times and it came back. The town came out and "killed" it but it still came back. Little shoots would come up in the yard twenty feet from the bamboo in back of the yard. Is is ferocious!!!!!!!!
Limbing up large shrubs is great to do to specific shrubs. I’ve limbed up Pierises, lilacs, rhododendrons, smoke trees, mock orange etc. I won’t do any Conifers though, because they lose their beautiful shape. But the rest of them look great and I created a small tree at 6-15 feet tall as opposed to the typical 20-25 patio trees. If need be, I also prune out some branches to crest a beautiful airy look especially with dense shrubs such as camellias, Rhodies and pierises. Plus you can now plant perennials or other low growing plants underneath their “petticoats”! A win, win!! Great job Laura!
In the Chicago area, I have never seen Spider Mites on any of my outdoor plants. May was very dry here and mostly June. But the rain finally returned. I think the reason you are not getting spider mite is because of the humidity you had earlier.
Your comment about Douglas reminded me that I forgot to ask before if your area had an animal shelter. Our area does, although the found pet must be found in a specific county, but the shelter encourages finders to take pets to them because that's the first place owners would look.

Hi Laura.. do you have any idea on how to keep a hibiscus tree to survive the winter.. I’m in Connecticut 6a/b .. I’m sure I need to bring it in for the winter .. but survival is a whole other story.. Thanks Laura for sharing your knowledge and experience with us all.
Laura!!! Thank you so much for recommending the Dewalt Pruners!! They have helped me so much. I have alot of trees and a fenceline to maintain on my property and this was a game changer for me. They made my upkeep so much easier. Thank you again!
I hope you will consider growing mums. I got my first small greenhouse this year and grew many of my vegetables and some flowers to plant in my garden and they have done good. However, I started “a lot” of mums and have been having a harder time with them. I could use your wisdom. You give so much advice and tips that has been such a help and inspiration to many.
I have 23 north poles and live in an area that gets a lot of snow. Mine were flopped starting spring this year for the first time, but I was too lazy to tie them up. They bounced back and are now verticle again on their own. I feel a little fertilizer and consistent water gave them the TLC they needed to get back in form.

HiLaura, just love watching you every morning.
Be careful with those pruners. I’ve seen several ppl say they cut a finger tip off bc once u push the button, there’s no stopping the action.
Hello I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness prosperity, love ❤and peace all over the world🌏. I'm Engineer Graham Bolt from Nashville Tennessee, where are you from?
Boot trays! inexpensive boot trays are great.
Regarding the starter paper pots,
I use boot trays alot, especially for overwintering plants in my garage. Keeps the water seepage contained. I also use them for plants in nursery pots that I have not yet planted out.
Great also for potting up plants too...containing the mess.
My most favorite water tray!

Thanks for Laura & Aaron's tips, it's helpful. Wish you and everybody here have a great weekend
The gaura is indeed “whirling butterflies,” and it is an outstanding plant all season long. I have tried other gaura varieties, and they all pale in comparison in terms of longevity and robust growth.
Laura looking lovely in GREEN 😊
Good morning from Delaware Garden Answer friends.
Great informative recap video! Samantha and Benjamin are so adorable and they are learning so many good life skills.
Laura, most birds eat the berries for the liquid. So if you had a birdbath, that would help. It’s more likely it’s the water they’re looking for. Same way, if you have issues with birds eating your tomatoes or any other juicy produce. Most likely it’s for the liquid.
Huh I had no idea! Thank you for letting us know!

I have a strawberry patch right next to where my turkeys are housed.
@@ann2155 that is so cool that you figured that out 😁
I agree with Ann.
@@loricawley54 exactly all the little critters need a drink too!
I agree about the old Bermuda Beach petunia I liked the look of the old one better
Thanks for explaining the philodendron! ~Becky 😊
Aaron and Laura:
Superthrive is the best product that has been produced for plants. I have been using it for years and I have never ever been diss appointed. As you said it good to use with plants that are struggling. It gives them a tremendous boost. I also use Espoma on everything. Thanks to you I adore Espoma products. They are both on top of my list. 😊
I watch all your videos and I still look forward to the weekly recap video! ; )
Good morning from Maryland. 🌱🌷🌻🌞🍀🌹
Lol
Agreed! Cats are so misunderstood and mischaracterized.
I love your simplicity wardrobe, but this green shirt looks great on you. And Benjamin with the check marks was so adorable.
Thanks for answering my question about the guara. I love this channel so much. Have a blessed day.
Really enjoy the answer question segment with you and Erin. It’s so fun, and instructional. Thanks so much!
Totally not doing this to be rude so please don't take it that way, but it's Aaron :) Erin is usually female :)
@@notthatkindofsam No offense taken. Thank you.
Good morning! As always another great recap! Love the interaction between you both.
Morning Laura thanks for the recap very informative
Aaron, you were talking about the drip system in the college flower beds and possibly mulching the front flower beds and possibly opening up a can of worms when Laura’s Mom called.
For the Paper Pot Starter Set, have you considered using a boot tray to collect the water. My boot tray is 27" X 13" so a bit larger than the paper pot tray.
Laura and Aaron love your content ❤❤❤
I can't believe anyone would criticize the queen of gardening!!!
Always great to listen to your recaps there is information and lots to learn. Thanks to both of you!
love the highlight video's but do miss seeing them filmed outside in the garden. (I know it is a sound issue) but do miss the relax garden chats!
What is your favorite felco items Laura?
I have started using Metafim 12mm drip tube with holes every 6 inches to replace 1/4 inch tubing in my raised beds. Works great.
not sure if someone answered yet, but i believe all dressed up is a weeks roses introduction. it was on the front of one of their catalogues when i was ordering for the nursery i worked at
Thank you, Aaron for your sharing of when to use an anvil pruner.
Laura I would like to see you do lilac trimmed up into tree form! I have one that 3 /4 years old, I want to train to tree form! May be to early for my lilac! Love all your videos!

Looking forward to building the pond...
Soo exciting!!!
Good morning!
I converted 3 hydrangea bushes to tree form. They r doing great.
I like that weirdo plant. It looks cool!
Awesome recap as always. Thank you Laura and Aaron.
Laura can you take us to the home you landscaped last year? The home that had the problems with the front trees, did they figure out their problem?
I was wondering about that house and landscape, too.
Didn't they sell it?
Love the green shirt!😍
❤ beautiful Trees 🌳

Another wonderful recap. I'm drinking my coffee and learning so much. Peaceful and informative. Can't beat that!💕🌼🌿
How’s your mom’s back these days? I noticed in the video where you were doing the drip tube for her raised beds, that she was bending very gingerly and when she walked she had the same posture as me when my back isn’t great.
Once you’ve had chronic back pain you can spot a fellow sufferer a MILE off!! Please send her my love xx
Hi Laura.. do you have any idea on how to keep a hibiscus tree to survive the winter.. I’m in Connecticut 6a/b .. I’m sure I need to bring it in for the winter .. but survival is a whole other story.. Thanks Laura for sharing your knowledge and experience with us all.
I love the new yellow leaves on yours and my philodendron.
Thanks for a great week of dreaming along with you!
Laura!!! Thank you so much for recommending the Dewalt Pruners!! They have helped me so much. I have alot of trees and a fenceline to maintain on my property and this was a game changer for me. They made my upkeep so much easier. Thank you again!
Hi, I've been a fan for years and really enjoy your content. Could you show us how to prune grapes sometime? Thank you!
Loved the recap! Hugs from N.C..♥️
I'd love to see a day in the life of Paul and Bethany sometime. 😀
