    Also quick note:
This display of lightningbending can only be appreciated on multiple rewatches.
Every time Azula lightningbends it always has a windup time. Even when Iroh does it, it takes some time.

Ozai is a shitty father but he is a powerful firebender. He managed to create lightning quickly and effectively. And the eclipse wasn’t even fully gone yet.
What makes the Ozai/Zuko scene so powerful is seeing Zuko, a victim of physical abuse, taking a stand. Not only does he realize what Ozai is, he also confronts his abuser. Something that a lot of abuse victims unfortunately can‘t achieve because they fail to recognize the true danger.

Yeah, Zuko's moment of standing up to Ozai IS awesome, but that scene also demonstrated just how dangerous Ozai is. Lightning bending is the hardest firebending technique to pull off, and the Eclipse blocks ALL firebending, Ozai was able to pull off a technique most firebenders aren't able to do just one SECOND after the full Eclipse starts passing; Ozai at his weakest, is stronger than most firebenders at their strongest.

We've seen it since all the way back in her introduction in Book 2, with "almost isn't good enough" and all that. Since irl blue fire can only be produced when "perfect" combustion without soot/waste products is achieved, it feels incredibly fitting for her😊 I imagine it must have taken a lot of experimentation and finagling to get it right, but now she can seemingly do it instictively - she really is a prodigy

I like both of the lighting options for different reasons. The more lit one gives a real feeling of nostalgia for me bc I have grown used to seeing u like that, but I must admit the dark gives a homey feel, almost like ur watching a movie on the couch with the lights turned off with the fam. Love it either way, have fun with it!

Some ask why Zuko didn't attack Ozai directly. Why even go there at all if you're gonna leave anyway?
Zuko went there to confront his father, yes. But, I think a large part of it was to say out loud how jacked up the Fire Nation is, how despicable his father is, and all Zuko's thoughts. He's declaring his heart and mind, and he's burning that bridge. There is no turning back from here. Also, Zuko didn't attack his father because although he's ready to fight against his Ozai he's not prepared to kill his own father. That's a tall order. Even if he did attack and kill his own father it would be an act of treason. Azula would assume the throne, and Zuko would be executed.

Regarding Azula's power; there is a difference between power and skill.
Azula as shown by her blue flames is immensely powerful, but she isn't as skilled as Ozai or Iroh. Compare the time it takes her to produce lightning, compared to Ozai's near instant shot.

    For context:
Azulon ordered Ozai to kill Zuko, as punishment for Ozai trying to bribe him to inherit the throne instead of Iroh, after Lu Ten’s death.
Azula listened to this, and she of course was telling Zuko about it, which Ursa overheard. (We saw this in “Zuko Alone”)
Ozai was planning on killing Zuko in his sleep, but Ursa then proposed a plan which would give Ozai the throne, and spared Zuko’s life. They never explained specifically what the plan was this scene due to PG reasons, but basically:
Ursa had knowledge of how to brew a undetectable poison. She gave the poison to Ozai, which he would use to poison Azulon while he was eating. This was the “treasonous” deed Ozai was referring, and this is why Azulon died that same night as we saw in “Zuko Alone”
And with that, Ozai obtained the throne, however he banished Ursa, out of fear that she would attempt to poison him. She wanted to take Zuko and Azula with her, but was denied and Ozai “assured” her that no harm will come to them, while she was gone.

One thing I hate is that people can see the episode numbers. Back then this season 2 ending and this was the finale until we could see more and we've been working towards the day of black sun so long so most of us thought this was the finale. Because there was no episode count back then you had to catch it live or on a rerun.

    • @uncleiroh7
      @uncleiroh7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yep, I hope they got the connection to the "Zuko Alone" episode of Book 2. To sum things up, Ozai asked his father (firelord Azulon) to make him the new Firelord because Iroh is a loser (in Ozai's eyes). As a punishment he wanted to make him feel how it is to lose a son so he wanted to kill Zuko. Zuko's mother knew that so she killed Azulon to protect her son. Remember when she said "remember Zuko, everything I've done, I've done to protect you."

  • @subitman

For a US Navy submarine, there are various methods to maintain the air supply. The submarine is large enough that the oxygen already present is enough. The problem is the breathing because people exhale CO2 which can cause problems such as fire if there is an excess. An engineer laboratory technicial (ELT) would take air samples during his six hour watch to see what chemicals in what quantity are present. Low oxygen may cause fatigue which is why a submarine needs to come up in safe conditions to get fresh air into the sub. I've seen submariners stand at the hatch to just breathe in the air at sea while others are preparing to go topside to do their jobs.

I think my favorite thing about the this show is their phenomenally strong female characters. Katara, Toph, Azula, the Kyoshi warriors, Azulas gang... it's one of the few cartoons I can say is truely 50/50 and doesn't buy into the whole "save the princess" persona. Those basasses can save themselves!

the guard in Iroh's cell is an important reminder of the speech Zuko just made - Iroh was a WAR HERO....people looked up to him. Especially the military. He was the model soldier and general. Legendary even. The guard even rattles off Iroh's titles to him in ANGER. It's because he feels betrayed. It's not a stretch to think he takes it personally, that maybe HE looked up to him. Iroh's public betrayal and smear campaign are an insult. The guard mocks and belittles him because it challenges something big to him. He's just one character, but he represents the popular view there - that's what this war campaign is....people think the Fire Nation is good and right!

In Avatar, he voices/portrays a very similar bad guy and Zuko has a way of defending himself against lightning!

On Iroh not killing anyone- there's another series I enjoy, Wheel of Time, that has a warrior culture called the Aeil, and to them, the greatest demonstration of skill and strength is to defeat an opponent without killing them. They say that any idiot can kill, but only someone with real skill can defeat a foe without needing to kill them. I think Iroh is a great demonstration of that type of thinking!
