This is by far my favorite Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox cover. The rawness of her voice mixed with the emotion of that scream gives me chills every time I listen. The only thing I would've changed is her pantsuit. This song calls for a floor length gown with a train.

I have to say it. I think this is better than Demi's. Not gonna be everyone's opinion, and that's ok. I'm just saying that, to me, while Demi is a touch clearer on some of the notes, her performance emotion always comes off feeling "pop". Like it's designed to be played in a movie soundtrack over montaged relate-able teenage girls crying in their rooms. Shoshana feels like she's pouring her bleeding heart out in a song for real, on the spot spontaneously right there and then. It's raw, it isn't always pretty but it's honest and painful (in the right way, if you get what I mean). It's like the difference between artificial orange flavouring and an actual orange. People are gonna like one, the other, or even both and that's great. I'm just saying thanks to PMJ for giving us such a fabulous option to choose from!

No one, not a single soul, can do this song better than Demi. The music video version, the in-studio version (my personal fav) or the version where she is on stage with country star Brad Paisley - all of them surpass this cover exponentially. This version is too "happy" even with some of the sad notes in there. And while I adore Shoshana's vocals in most cases, she can't bring across the same utter helplessness and hurt that Demi can. This is Demi's song and she owns it every time she sings it. Shoshana and anyone else covering it can't come close.

Every single time I hear this song, I get goosebumps and I feel every word she sings. Just an incredibly musician, absolutely amazing.
Sad to see the living room go though. The end of the video kind of felt like the season finale of a show that you get emotionally invested in.

I love the scenic ideas that encompasses the mood of the songs. SO creative. Also Shoshana Bean fucking rocks this! This made my eyes tear up.

Listening to this without video is emotionally powerful enough, but seeing her go through the expressions as she sings, especially that last line, made me shed tears multiple times watching this. Truly moving.

+Kevin M No offense to Shoshana Bean- but dare to imagine. Demi Lovato's original vocals are no less powerful. Honestly this arrangement didn't change very much from the original. I think the main difference in preference will just be certain vocal qualities you may like better in one singer than in the other.
But, I don't listen to Demi Lovato. I wouldn't know a Demi Lovato if one kicked me in the shin :-) One thing I like about PMJ is that they do some songs I'd never otherwise hear. And, the songs that I do know they reimagine.
Kevin M I guess what I'm saying is listen to Demi Lovato, because while some of her songs are very poppy and not as interesting, others are very similar like this.
I'm let down because this is not really reimagined at all, but usually the songs they cover are not as initially amazing as Stone Cold is.
Really recommend the original, it's pretty amazing - Demi hits a sustained G#5 in chest voice, damn.

Another profoundly outstanding performance Scott, made all the more poetic, sincere and poignantly engrossing by it's very simplicity as a duo, one voice and one instrument, the beautifully smooth yet emotionally raw, impassioned sound of Shoshana's voice set against your never wavering, never faltering intrinsic connection with the piano and the music you create from it. I also enjoyed the moving element to the video as well, the quietly persistent elimination of any excess or unnecessary items from the viewers vantage, one by one, it felt appropriate to the song's story, to the memorable nature of the occasion this song marks and to the sentiment within the tenor and tone of the moment. In short, it's fantastic and another example of why I eagerly await any and every new piece you offer, thank you thank you, you too Shoshana, gorgeous everything!

She did it in head voice, so it's a bit easier than Demi's studio version which is in chest voice :)
