Ian Brown has said in interviews that when they started the Second Coming sessions in 1992, Reni played non stop for 40 minutes, and John Leckie just grinned and said 'can't this just be the album?!'
@@jamescampbell351 Yeah true! I'm thinking about my Greatest Drummer List comment above, now I think maybe he was on the Lists but I just didn't notice because I'd never heard of him. I never even heard the Roses until last year.
I keep coming back to listen to this. It's amazing. Just wish I could see how he does it. He's mesmerising to watch. I've never known a drummer like him. I used to like watching Stewart Copeland when I was younger, but Reni just seems to defy genre. He can do any type of music, dance, rock, jazz...I wish there was more (clear) footage of him out there. Reni cam! I wish all the live footage would be made into a film. Plus all the Shane Meadows footage...Sorry I've waffled on too long!
Jazz, not rock. This is worth listening on headphones and following every beat. You'll be hypnotized, in a good, loving way. I just cannot figure this guy out.
No idea why Reni is never considered on the 'best of lists'. Keith Moon was a beast, John Bonham was a rhythmic genius but Reni is the only drummer I've ever experienced that I would want to dance to. Utterly brilliant
what !?!?!? its just Reni ------ delightfull makes my day .... no bull... lists ... he's on top ...whoever needs to know knows it... especially the others drummers...
So........every 200yrs a drummer will be sent from the outer reaches of the universe Reni was the latest. Who is the next? We may have a hundred and 174 years to find out. F..king legend
They should go back and find the original master tapes from this without the effects, just stick out all the hours of jams and Reni warm ups as an album!
Renis shuffles alone made me start to play drumming on tubs, now i can do it ,its great fun learning this talent,Reni is not of this universe, nobody will ever be as good.he could be as rich as he wanted if usa got him
Ive grownnup listening to the best drummers, nobody cam drum like reni,or make it look so fuckin cool, wot nailed it for me with this band, first songsbi heard waterfall & she bangs the dtums, were the quallity of the vocals ian & reni,it still blows my mind,i think reni should be awarded god like genius
the best part of the roses is I feel like all four were at the top of their game. reni is crazy talented, and the vocal harmonies between him and ian are so beautiful. mani had some sick basslines and john had such a cool sounding style. and none of them got all wanky on top of the songs, it just all blended together in such a perfect way. roses forever - i think 4 god like genius awards are needed :)
Wish he'd never used two bass drums on the reunion tour he doesn't need 2 he proves here he's much better with one and grooving on his hats ....that 2cnd bass drum seemed to distract him from his grooves on the new tour it's a shame....listen to the speed of his bass drum here with all that hihat work...miles better single bass drum user like Bonham
totally agree. thought his drumming on the reunion tour lost a little swing. Especially Love Spreads -- one of his best grooves and all wrong in the reunion shows IMO.
Definitely one of the my favorite drummers. On a somewhat unrelated note, one of my other faves is the late great Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse. I know they are very different from the Roses, but I was fortunate enough to grow up with parents that knew Jeremiah. I remember having him over at my house when I was little and just watching him solo on a kit for a long time. This reminds me of that a lot - these guys at the top of their game hold themselves back for recording. They could hold a crowd on their own easily. I am not a drummer myself, but damn, those guys make me wanna be!

I don't know why I never see his name on Greatest Drummer lists. But he IS one of the greatest, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT!
U got at right Richie boy it’s mad how he can change fay a jazz beat inty a rock beat

The greatest drummer on the planet!!!
One of the very best to ever do it

Have you not seen them live?
best rock drummer. he swings more than Bonham. the drums themselves are a complete song.
Best drummer ive ever seen or heard
Just when Reni takes you to the edge and you feel weightless, he brings you right back, on time. Amazing talent!!
Oh my god.... this is just unbelievable. He made a song only with a drum kit...
Jazz, not rock. This is worth listening on headphones and following every beat. You'll be hypnotized, in a good, loving way. I just cannot figure this guy out.
i agree he is great one of the best imo, but this is rock! 🎸🪨
Goodness me....Genius....and at nearly 70 I have seen great drummers live...this is special.

Reni is one of the best Drummers out there.
Not only a greatly talented drummer but his backing melodies on the Roses debut are heavenly
great point, the vocals are a damn-near incomparable joy to listen to
The ONLY time I'm listening to music and I even NOTICE the drummer is when I'm listening to a Roses song. All hail Bucket Hat.
Jazz, funk, rock, break beats...and everything you can imagine in between
his flow is unreal.. love this kind of drumming keeps my feet tapping
and you can dance too
The man is a machine on the drums, a pleasure to hear through headphones and a pleasure to hear live, love him
wow!!!! Nothing to say! Just listen. THANK YOU RENI.

If you did this 200 years ago you'd be burned at the stake!
This is the best drummer you will ever listen to, nobody can top this guy.
vassa929 Take a look at Chris Coleman
There’s so many drummers with different areas of specialty. I don’t think you can really say one guy is the best. He is a legend and a master.
Chris Coleman is amazing though, yes.
Never forget the 90s were known for the Reni Hat that this lad invented, designed, modelled, rocked and wore into infamy!
He didn't invent them hats, they were for cricket, fishing, walking etc...you silly Sausage 🙌✌️
Indeed, British army were rocking them in the jungle in 44
@@beaubrummel5030 OK you got me but they weren't called Reni hats then though...
This is quite special.
They should go back and find the original master tapes from this without the effects, just stick out all the hours of jams and Reni warm ups as an album!
Do you think that's even remotely possible? I'd pay whatever I could to make it happen
Prefer this to Reni's new fondness for double bass drumming.
MADCHESTER 🖤🖤
The heart of the roses
Word on the street is that he plays guitar as well as he plays drums. He is also an autodidact who can learn to play anything quickly.
I've heard that as well. And bass. Dude could be his own band, and kill it on all of the instruments.
@Ronnie McColl Why would you get so wound up about that?!
He fronted 'The Rub' on guitar and vocals but no studio recordings where ever released
Renis shuffles alone made me start to play drumming on tubs, now i can do it ,its great fun learning this talent,Reni is not of this universe, nobody will ever be as good.he could be as rich as he wanted if usa got him
this is great modern music
This isn't really a drum solo more an experimental piece of music!!

Yes, totally. He was trying to be something that he's not for some strange reason, because what he is is completely unique.
he is a lot older now mind you
totally agree. thought his drumming on the reunion tour lost a little swing. Especially Love Spreads -- one of his best grooves and all wrong in the reunion shows IMO.
He said at the time he'd had to move to 2 because he was no longer fast enough on 1.

John Bonham; Moby Dick, Ginger Baker; Toad. This by Reni is much more interesting
Where is this solo taken from?
Rehearsing / pre-production for their second album. (92-93ish)
Could only be Reni. No doubt about it
Better than most old skool prit pop drummers
Where did this come from?
exactly, we need more info and to get hold of every stray tape of this man's drumming
The stone roses in the studio vol.2 bootleg
