I would love to go to Elizabeth's Hair salon and get a hairstyle from 1950s, that's one of the coolest things I have ever heard! This is the coolest museum I have ever seen, thanks for introducing to us. I have added it on my bucket list!
I absolutely love Beamish 😊 my parents took me many times when I was a child, and now I have a child of my own we visit as often as we can. I know every inch of Beamish as I’ve been that many times - but each time I go I always see something new as the exhibits in each shop, house and building gets rotated regularly. It’s a place you have to visit, especially if you actually live in the North East
I am so happy I found this video to give me a little throwback to when I was studying abroad in Newcastle, fell in LOVE with Beamish and visited I think 4 times in the span of less than 3 months. This museum is lovely, the people working there are so knowledgeable and helpful (I even recognised one of the people I met and had a whole conversation with about the suffragette movement) The baked goods and sweets are amazing, the environment is beautiful and… really… just go see it… it’s even more beautiful to experience in real life than this great video showed. Again, thank you so much for bringing me back for a bit ❤❤
I am from Germany and we visited Beamish last Tuesday during our trip through England. We absolutely loved it there! We didn't manage to see all areas so we will definetely come back. It is REALLY worth a visit!! 😀
Beamish was an amazing place to go to whilst I was a school kid, I haven't been in years. It's recommended to go more than once simply because there's too much to see in one day. Can't wait to go again.
Perhaps by the time you go there will be more of the 1950s area ready! Looks like the 1950s farm opened since we were there. Hope you enjoy your trip if you do return! Thanks for watching 🙂
This has been a nostalgic blast from the past for me as I have been to Beamish many times from a young child. I am Scottish but my Nana and aunts, uncles and cousins all live in County Durham. I travelled on the tram, steam train, and coach. I went down the drift mine and saw the pit ponies. My mum had a colleague here in Scotland who's father-in-law's childhood home was rebuilt brick by brick at Beamish in the mining homes. The father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all miners. Her and her husband travelled several times to Beamish to see his grand-father's home. We visited the 1900's street and had our photo taken in traditional costumes. They were fronts only, tied at the back and was funny to see in our home movie as we were wearing shorts from behind. I remember visiting the dentist who showed that it was a foot operated drill and he said you want to come first thing as my leg gets tired as the day goes on and my hand starts to shake. He also explained that it was cheaper then for people to get all their teeth taken out than to repair one tooth. It was only the rich who got dental repairs and the poor had them all removed and even then false teeth were really only available to the wealthy. Thanks for your video as I had no idea that Beamish was being constantly expanded. I hope to visit my aunt nearby and visit Beamish again this summer. It's over 25 years since I was last there. My parents have both passed away but our Beamish photo is still wall-mounted. I remember my mum saying she looked like her gran in the photo with the clothes on. I must have been in my early twenties. A lot of great, treasured memories.
Ahh this museum is soo cool. I really enjoyed your choice of music for this guide, it really added to the experience. I liked that there was an old style jukebox and salon! I don't know that I am aware of a museum quite like this one 😊 Your travel tips at the end are so helpful for planning a trip!
There are other museums like this one but I think this is the first time I've visited one before. It's awesome! I did really enjoy using this music so glad you liked it... it wasn't exactly what I was looking for but it was the closest I could find on epidemic sound! Thanks for watching 🙂
Hey Guys, I've never been to the Beamish Museum, but it looks fab, well worth a visit. I love all of the themed room sets. Have a good weekend - Nettie
Grew up in the area been down the mine loads as a kid but it’s brilliant to see how it was like although a lot of the mine aren’t open to public for safety reasons
Never been that far up North, but I've been in the drift mine at the Black Country Living Museum, it was well worth it. If you live local to Beamish, go back and get a trip down the drift mine.
Sadly we aren't local to Beamish or we would have definitely made the most of that annual ticket! If we ever go to the Black Country Living Museum we'll need to prioritise the drift mine
I went to Beamish a couple times as a kid and still remember it and how interesting it was. I am starting to visit places around the UK and this is definitely on my list for somewhere to visit, can't wait to go back. With how much there is to do I am pretty sure gonna do it over 2 days. Anyone got any advice for close by hotel?
We stayed at Hotel Indigo in Durham centre because we wanted to spend a couple of days in the city too. The beamish website has a few suggestions. Hope you have a great trip! I think two days would be a good amount of time to take it all in 🙂
Oh you missed loads! the tram depot the archive store the railway station, the place is unreal. if you plan to visit and see it all it would take a week! the place is amazing. i got to sleepover with my scout group one night in the masonic hall that was an experience of a lifetime i can tell you
Oh I know, there was no way we were going to see it all in one day! We were there open til close and still stood no chance 😅 Wow, getting to stay overnight must have been amazing! 😄 it's such a fantastic place to visit
the drift mine is a short walk down a low dark tunnel to give the impression of the working conditions, hard hats are provided but the staff wear flat caps, with a safety helmet hidden underneath
if you have walking difficulties there is a fully accessible bus ask any member of staff and they will radio for it, ask for current details when I went it only picked up at the tram stops
A Rural Policeman was assigned to a village and a special house was provided for Lodging. They tended to integrate better within the community and became trusted and popular.
The admittance prices have increased from £19 to £22 for adults with reductions for pensioners and kids etc. They have also done away with the morning pre-booking, so you can just turn up go....
To make it clear, you are issued with the years pass when you enter.......that's your entrance ticket in effect. The queues when getting your first ticket can be very long, however the next time you come, just enter on the fast track side and you will be inside within minutes. If you don't return within the year, you aren't any worse off, because there is only one set price anyway.
Yeah it is a bit pricey but kept us entertained for the full day so we felt like it was worth it. It acts as an annual pass so if you can visit more than once it's great value, but of course we can't all do that (not sure if we will be able to ourselves). We were still happy with it though because of how much there was to see.
For the size of the place and fact can return unlimited times in a Year its not bad, lots of attractions are £15 to £20 these days if not more, and some you'll only be there for an hour or two.
GrrMeister ....doesnt sound like a con especially for a full day out and free parking........do you even understand the time, effort and dedication it has taken to put this living museum together?
Yes but there's only one set price, so you aren't losing out. If you can't make it again within the year, it's not the museums problem. I could understand if a one off price was considerably lower, but that's not the case. Many attractions are doing the one year pass now.
I would love to go to Elizabeth's Hair salon and get a hairstyle from 1950s, that's one of the coolest things I have ever heard! This is the coolest museum I have ever seen, thanks for introducing to us. I have added it on my bucket list!
It's a really great museum! You should get that hairstyle if you go manage to go 😁 Thanks for watching!

Wow, it's great that even now you still find new things 🙂 We would love a repeat visit, there was so much we missed!

We didn't manage it all either, there's way too much to fit into one day! Glad you had a great day, hope you enjoyed the rest of your england trip 🙂
Wow! Thank you so much for this video! I planned a three day trip to Durham and did not know what to do for my last day and now I know!
Glad it was helpful, i hope you have a great time! Looks like you did the same as us - 2 days in the city then beamish 🙂
I love beamish so much! It’s unreal!!!
It's such a great place to visit!

There's a museum like this in Shropshire called Blists Hill Victorian Town
there is one in belgium called Bokrijk
Wow this is really cool! Love the ancient looks!
Beamish is a cracking day out well worth going to see but one peace of advice take a packed lunch as it can be really busy
Agree, the fish and chips were super tasty but the queue did eat into too much Beamish time!
Very nice video.Has to be the best value ticket going. No rush as you can revisit for a year, great place..🤙
Even if you can't return I still think it's worth it because it's a full day out - so much to see there! 🙂 Thanks for watching

Definitely worth a visit if you do get the chance 🙂 Thanks for watching, I hope you have a great weekend too!
Lived in Stanley for 3 years but still haven’t been to beamish. Thanks for the video - prices are a lot more now but still seems worth going
Especially as you live so close as you could get more than one visit in for that price, and you really can't see it all in one day!
Amazing, I was there a few days ago
At 5:45 I sincerely expected you to say: "This is one of the original PIGS..."
Haha, that would be one impressive pig!

Aw, hopefully they found a bit of shade! Glad to hear you had a great day, it's a super day out 😀

Took my grandkids few year ago, fantastic place. Must go again
If your last visit was a few years ago perhaps it was before the 1950s town opened, so new things to see! 😀
@@OurTravelPlace yes it was before the 1950 town opened, that’s another good reason to return

I have been to Beamish and went into Annfield Plain Co op shops all rebuilt

Thanks for that extra bit of interesting information!
You're welcome.
The admittance prices have increased from £19 to £22 for adults with reductions for pensioners and kids etc. They have also done away with the morning pre-booking, so you can just turn up go....
Thanks for sharing the price and booking update. That's the problem with adding info on prices etc to videos - it eventually becomes out of date!
If I want to visit beamish only once, should I buy ticket as well?
Yes, you buy the ticket 👍

On some of the other videos of Beamish, I have seen a Local Policeman Constable out on his beat.
I think we must have missed that!
Ok.
I’ve been here.
Fish and chips has gone up a lot more than that since this was filmed
Dare I ask what it costs now?
@@OurTravelPlace I paid for a couple of things but I'm sure it was around £12 for fish and chips and £8 for a dab and chips.

I don't think so, although the very end does sound like it! Not sure what the song he was playing was though

Just a point, to save you any embarrassment in the future. The letter H is pronounced Aitch, not Haitch, because it’s spelt Aitch. 👍
