She had me hooked on her first audition. The way she came out and took over the audience with her awesome personality, I could tell by listening to her talk that whatever she was going to sing was going to be amazing. She made it more amazing!! She has a set of pipes like I have never heard.
It is not her arrangement, - I like her ,and she sings great, but is not an arranger or musician, - to my knowledge Syndie does not play an instrument, so it would have the arranger who works for the show, and he/she , did a great job.
I fell for Sydnie Christmas about 15 seconds into her first appearance when she sang Tomorrow from the musical Annie. In some ways I think it is the best of her three appearances. Her ambition is the West End and her winnings are going toward professional voice training. She is sincere and talented and funny and beautiful and willing to work very hard. Her Grans are awesome. I wish her nothing but success. Go Sydnie!!
I appreciate your thoughtful watch and analysis. I think that much of music is a matter of personal taste. For me, and I think maybe even millions of others, Sydnie's voice feels like magic. She has become in short order my favorite vocalist. I have watched and listened to her sing hundreds and hundreds of times now... literally every day for the last 6 months or so. And only very rarely in those listenings am I not moved to goosebumps and tears. So perhaps it's personal. I hope you'll give her other performances a listen. Her audition, which was covering "Tomorrow", is the most beautiful 10 minutes of television I think I have ever seen. And her finale of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is just glorious, although she was pretty sick going into that one and she herself has said she won't watch it, and that she was sure she had lost as a result. She's an amazing talent, and I'm obsessed with her voice. Thanks for the react!
I could have written every word you just wrote but now I don't have to do it. Thank you! So nice to have others on the same page as I am regarding Sydnie.
@@robinabbott5653 that one is stunning. So is Impossible Dream. But I go back and forth between thinking that O Holy Night or She Used to be Mine are my favorites.
Thank you for your fascinating and detailed analysis of Sydnie’s vocal performance, Sir Hairless - one of the best I have heard. As far as I am aware, the vocal arrangement was originated by Sydnie herself, in collaboration with her BGT-assigned vocal coach. Sir, I realise that your principal remit here is vocal and musical analysis, and accordingly this is what you focussed upon. But to my mind there is so much more to this particular performance of Sydnie’s than stunning vocals; there is also her self-assured bearing, her commanding stage presence, and her physical expressivity with appropriately assertive gesturing and subtle but dramatic facial expressions. And although you seem not to have been particularly moved emotionally by Sydnie’s performance, its emotional impact was, for me, amongst its most powerful attributes. Please do analyse Sydnie’s BGT performances of Tomorrow (audition) and Over the Rainbow (grand final). And should you do so, please watch her audition from the moment she trips onto the stage, for it is in her preliminary exchanges with the judges that she displays so richly her fascinating and endearing personality.
She has a powerful and extraordinary voice! I have never heard of her before. Her voice seems old-fashioned, like Judy Garland's. I love that era's songs ❤R/A 🎼
Thanks for finding this gem of talent here in YT. This performance is absolutely insane, vocally and musically speaking, But you will appreciate more of her as a talent when you watch her Audition performance where she sang Tomorrow from Annie. Her GF performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow will cement her new career in music industry. Looking forward to your other reaction.
Thanks, have a watch of her initial audition of Tomorrow, and her final performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. She has an incredible voice and you learn more about her story and personality in the first audition 😊
Thanks for the breakdown on this kinda gives me more of an insight of why it is that I keep revisiting and replaying not only this one song but also her audition and her finale song - this young lady is extremely talented and will go far
As others have mentioned, this was her arrangement. Her audition song “ Tomorrow” was based on the arrangement that Marisha Wallace sang as a fundraiser during the Covid shutdown in 2020. And “Over The Rainbow” was the arrangement made by her idol, Loren Allred, who sang it in February on AGT Fantasy League. Your analysis was quite detailed and informative.
It was between her and a magician for the win. If you liked the stylistic choices..you will probably like her in general because this seems to be very much her style of singing. The original audition with "Tomorrow" also very clearly showcased this. Personally I think part of her charm as a singer is that she sings more like people used to sing pre the Whitney Era. She is more a Streisand type of singer. Telling a story rather than focussing on just vocaltechnically impressing the listener. Though she IS capable of the latter. Her dream is to be on the West End so it kind of figures her priority is with that storytelling. I would very much advice to check out that original audition
If you watch Sydnie Christmas sing her first song on Britain's Got Talent, you will connect with Sydnie for it is her personality that everyone fell in love with first and when they realized she was not only a nice person, but a damn good singer, everyone loved her and it is no wonder that she won BGT. She is the complete package. Girl next door makes good.
This was a nice surprise! I only saw her Golden Buzzer performance. She had a great personality and she turned one of Simon's least-liked songs into one of his new favorites. A big thank you to the person who requested this. Also, great r/a!
Great analysis! I really enjoyed the parts with the piano. You were right about one major thing…there are a whole lot of great singers in the world who never get recognized. Sometimes all they need is one chance, but that doesn’t guarantee success. Think about all the singers who have won American Idol (after 22 years). How many of them are successfully working in the music industry? Meanwhile, Sydnie has already sung at David Foster’s 75th birthday celebration at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. She released an album that went to #1 on iTunes & she has a tour of the UK scheduled in February. I wholeheartedly agree with Alesha that this woman is going to be a superstar!
She sure ought to be..in my observation the trick is to find the right songwriter. David Foster and the people he knows paying attention to her could really help her find that.
You should also see her 1st golden buzzer performance on the show "over the rainbow". Her introduction is funny making jokes about her name but also a very stunning performance.
Stunning performances. I was absolutely in awe of her talent and her quirky personality. A must see is her first performance ( golden buzzer). TX for this. Greetings from South Africa
Totally agree! Sydnie caught everyone's eye before she even began singing....: and, as Bruno famously said, we want to hear more, and not stop. I'm also from South Africa, and Sydnie's album may be the nearest we can get to her songs: the last five round her songs off so well.
You will hear more from SC....both CD and "The RING" started in talent shows during years when the entire world was NOT watching talent shows or even could. There will be a "bidding war" to sign her, she will get "compared" to the greats. Let's see who wins and if they don't completely fumble her potential by trying to make her out to be something other that what "the fans knew" that won this competition.....fingers crossed they don't try to turn her into what we have today.
