Derwent Dam and Derwent Edge

  • A trip to the Ladybower area, parking at Fairholmes Car Park which is just a couple of minutes walk from the mightily impressive Derwent Dam. A spectacular sight and sound when it is overflowing, which it was on this January day.
From the dam, I headed up Hollin Clough and in the direction of Lost Lad, a peak that offers great views. A short walk then on to Back Tor, the highest point of the walk with a tricky scramble to reach the trig.
From Back Tor, it was a few miles walking along Derwent Edge where you get some great views over Ladybower Reservoir and the valley in which it lies.
Initially I planned to drop back down to the reservoir shortly after Whinstone Lee Tor but tried out a path I hadn't walked before in the hope of getting some views above the dam, it wasn't an easy path at this time of the year, but it all worked out as hoped in the end, seeing the views over the dam before dropping back down to it to end the walk.
A map of this route can be found at: explore.osmaps...
And lastly, I'm in no way paid for my videos, I make them purely for my own memories and hopefully to inspire family, friends and you guys to get out and enjoy our beautiful countryside. I'm no pro but I do enjoy the challenge of putting videos together. Critique is welcomed, criticism is not. If you enjoy my content, why not buy me a drink via www.buymeacoff...

Looks like a great walk. We will have to add it to our list for our next trip to the Peak District. The water at the dam did look really impressive and lots of work seems to have been done for visitors to really appreciate it. Nice drone flight at the end.

It’s one of my favourite areas to visit. The cafe and car park can be crazy busy in the summer and when the dam is overflowing, which only happens after heavy rains, but is quite a sight and sound to experience. That’s the most I think I’ve seen coming over it.
Derwent Edge is one of my favourite Peak edges to walk with some great views down the valley. Though all the edges are pretty impressive as I imagine you will know having seen your recent upload 👍🏼
