Chosoakobe. Take Buzen. Upgrade it to master fletchers. Build the hunting lodge encampment. Build master archery range. Conquer Japan with armies of half archers, some yari ash and some katana samurai. From that point on, you should only lose battles you aren’t prepared for. Eg 3 doom stacks. In which case hunker down in a castle, and watch your archers decimate.
Don't forget focus fire and target prioritisation. A unit that is significantly depleted will rout, effectively gaining you 20-30 men that aren't fighting the battle any more and allowing you to switch targets to units that are. Focusing all your fire on a single target will rout them faster than whittling down multiple units at the same time. Also don't waste your arrows on Ashigaru when there are bigger threats like Katana samurai, they have more armour so they'll be harder to kill but 1 dead samurai is probably worth 3 ashigaru. Even better, go for lightly armored but expensive troops like Monks and No Dachis. This way you get the most valuable kills for each volley. You can even use archers to force enemy generals out of the fight leaving their men without morale bonuses or killing the general outright.
Uf you are the defender in a field battle you can deploy defensive sheild screen which creates a line of barricades in front of your archers which can reduce the amount of enemy arrows hitting your units. Also it forces melee units to go around
I always wondered if you recieved a bonus from firing point blank rather than in volleys like in Medieval 2- where your crossbow units would be better off in the front lines shooting directly at the enemy instead of over a wall of infantry.
there is always one way to force the ai who is on the defense off of that hill bring in artillery or siege weapons that can reach them the ai most of the time will not have that and they have no choice but to come to you or else they will be shelled off that possition.
well if u have 1 arty in ur party its always going to be defend cuz AI will attack you weather you attack them or not. i mostly just have a bunch of good archers arty and some yari ashigaru to yari wall at front. when the come towards me my arty will kill a lot of them inflicting some moral damage then the archer fire will make most of them route or the yari wall will.
@@TheVikingGeneral looking back at it a few months later. Anyone have a problem where your archers just stand behind your melee line looking stupid after the melee lines clash? I can't get them to shoot the melee line even when they are at max range behind the line. It always line of sight blocked. At most I may get the front rank shooting, but not the entire unit. Fire at will doesn't automatically pick a target they can shoot at either. They should be able to just arc their shots into the enemy melee line like they do when they shoot over fort walls. I don't care about friendly fire. They just refuse to shoot at all.
It does sound like a bug to me. I sometimes have some units having trouble firing, since they don't want to arc their shots directly sometimes, but it never caused any big problems.
The only faction that does not rely on Bow Warrior Monks is the Chosokabe clan, why use Bow Warrior Monks when you have something that offers the exact longest range yet has better melee stats and armour stats.
Eh, oda can do decent with oda bow ashigaru spam. Sure, they're not as good, but you can have 4 ashigaru for the price of 1 bow warrior monk ;) Chosokabe is definitely better though ;)
You can't resupply your archers during battles. Ammunition will be fully filled in between battles. There is an art on the bushido tree (heaven and earth) which gives all archers 50% extra ammunition, which is quite useful to have.
I'm not sure which maps are which (I lose track of them all the time), but the completely flat map is a map from the steam workshop. It's called "Small, Flat Grassy Map".
It hurts yours a bit I think, but not as much as the enemy. I try to place my archers on the edge of the forest, so they have the least problem shooting out of them.

Mmmhm, Chosokabe vibes. God, I love Samurai Archers.
Chosokabe archers are really scary indeed.

Hey just found your channel today and subscribed right away! Shogun 2 is my favorite TW game, excited for more from you and to watch your channel grow
Thanks for the support! I'll try my best to not dissapoint ;)
So much quality advice in so little time. Amazing.
Honestly I am surprised how such old game is so well done. It has much more depth than I expected

Your archers are able to be pretty effective in most situations, but shooting at engaged enemy melee infantry is indeed not as effective as normal.
@@TheVikingGeneral do you get bonuses from shooting at the sides and backs of enemies?
@@maycontainnuts3127 Not sure to be honest

Yeah, that's probably the only thing siege weapons are useful for xD
