  • St. Croix County District Attorney Karl Anderson delivers his closing argument for the prosecution. Anderson called Miu's actions “horrific” and “senseless," saying walking up to Dante Carlson when he had a clear path to retreat refutes any self-defense argument.

I can understand it. Anyone with an ounce of logic can see that. He even says very clearly after the detective says something about him acting in self defense: “Yeah, but this is Wisconsin,” and “people who defend themselves end up being accused of being this and being that...”
During those first few hours, he obviously thinks that if he were to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth, he wouldn’t have ANY chance at all to be seen as innocent under the law. He thinks if he just tweaks a few minor facts, it will give him the edge he needs. He didn’t know that there was video of the incident at that point that would exonerate him.
I truly feel for the guy. He acted out of panic when he lied and acted as he did in the immediate aftermath. I wish he didn’t revoke his right to a lawyer during the interrogation, and waited until he talked to one first before choosing to gamble by talking to the detective and fibbing.
The video truly did exonerate his actions as self defense, ffs. Geezus man, he even had quadruple bypass surgery only a year and a half prior to this attack! He could have easily been the one to die if the “kids“ had hit him hard enough, or his head hit a rock when he was pushed down into the river bed! He absolutely did not “start” this shit at all. That's right. His ego felt hurt - so he took revenge. He wasn't smart enough to think things through. Didn't have the strength and own self-control to control his actions about "words" thrown t him. And he escalates things -- touching the legs and tubes. That isn't "searching" for a damn phone. That was his taunt to them. They are telling him -- leave-- repeatedly. When warned, why continue staying?
What's the point? The river is huge. And admittedly - the owner of the phone did not want him to find the phone. Didn't insist it be found. Underwater - in a huge rushing water river? It's gone.

He only has to be in fear of death or great bodily harm during the time when he is using the force. He only used the force after he got jumped by multiple assailants who were assaulting him at the time he used the force. Even if you don't think the guy acted in self defense, that's not good enough. The prosecution has to prove he didn't act in self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt. If there were a video of him chasing someone down while they were trying to run away from him and he stabbed them, then sure, that's not self defense. There isn't anything like that here.

He tried to lie to police and act like he wasn’t involved. Then, when that didn’t work, he tried to lie to Belize and investigators by saying 2 boys had knives. Then, when that story didn’t work, he lied again and again and again and again
As a teenage boy what would you do if you saw a grown man hit a girl or woman? Defend her correct? That was the only self defense that happened. Those boys defending a girl from a 52 year old 240 pound man.

He can be charged for obstruction and hiding evidence for his lies after the event, but rational people know why he lied. It wasn’t because he’s guilty. It was because:
      1) It’s well known that people act irrationally right after a very traumatizing event, saying and doing things w/o truly thinking them through properly because of fight or flight mode’s affect on the mind/body. Adrenaline is a hell of a thing.
And 2) He didn’t know there was video taken of the incident, so in his mind it was his word versus the word of 13 young adults that had already loudly lied about him and defamed him from the beginning, which kicked all of this off with the inciting of a mob action. In the interview at the police station, Miu says very clearly after the officer says something about him acting in self defense: _“Yeah, but this is Wisconsin,”_ and _“people who defend themselves end up being accused of being this and being that...”_
He obviously thinks that if he were to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth, he wouldn’t have ANY chance at all to be seen as innocent under the law. He thinks if perhaps he just tweaks a few facts, it will give him the edge he needs. And I’m sure that his memory of how things went down was very unclear too, because of how fast and traumatic the ordeal was. The brain goes into protection mode by blocking things out and making things up that didn’t actually happen.
I truly feel for the guy. He acted out of panic after the incident was over, which is understandable. He has an unblemished record, and has never been a problem with any of his friends/co-workers/spouse from their testimonies. No background at all of violence or anger management issues. His wife testified to the fact that she still loves him. They had to get a divorce to protect their assets. Someone at his age doesn’t just suddenly, randomly become a mrder.
His age and very poor health meant that if he hadn’t defended himself, it is very likely he would be the one to have died that day. Even one good shove on his chest could have done it, because of his recent QUADRUPLE bypass heart surgery! If his head hit a rock as he was being punched to the ground, he could have died. They might have even drowned him. He was in a VERY vulnerable state, and those “kids” were treating him like a punching bag!

U know why? Because this TRAINED soldier KNEW he had JUST committed a crime & he had to come up with a "story" quickly!
But what Nic was totally oblivious to was the fact that the video he saw being taken of him earlier, kept rolling as he straight GUTTED that boy, stabbed AND sliced open the young lady, & stabbed the others. That smirk he made before the stabbings was as if he thought, "They just don't know what they are in for!"
Although I feel these young people DID taunt him, Nic Miu felt humiliated & wanted revenge. The taunting of Miu DID NOT WARRANT him KILLING a kid! If he felt threatened, he should've left the scene instead of causing things to escalate more. Nic Miu KNEW what he was doing. He wanted to show that bunch WHO was gonna have the LAST laugh. SMH. Two types of people in this world. One believes in personal liberty and the right to self defense, the other will never accept an individual expression of self and only group need....and the group needs to not get stabbed for acting like morons.
This can be seen all over the political landscape.
To some Miu will never be guilty, to some he will never be innocent.
I am for individual liberty. I am pro second amendmant. I believe he acted in self defense.
If someone is against the second amendmant, they do not agree with individual liberty. They align more with a group prosperity model. They will never see an act as self defense, because the group loses.

It's sad that this had to happen. Mr Miu is not "old" at 52 and he is not feeble. Why he decided to do what he did only he knows for sure and he will have to live with himself. @@tflo5768I’ve seen videos where huge groups/mobs of people end up killing somebody, and they are literally indecipherable from the way the people in that video were acting. All of them begin exactly how that video was going; Taunting, mocking, surrounding, laughing, pushing, taking turns hitting the person and knocking them off their feet… Those guys in the video looked like they were having a blast surrounding the guy and riling up people against him by calling him a pedophile. The lady who was allegedly hit was 2 inches from the guy’s face screaming at him and grabbing his shoulders while everyone was gathered around him (it would reasonable for anyone to want the person out of their face). It’s unbelievably naive to think that the situation wasn’t getting even worse than it already was when the group of drunk guys started pushing, hitting, and grabbing the guy’s neck, all while still laughing and taunting him.
The outcome of the video would have been a hell of a lot different had the guy not had a knife. I’ve had strange people come up to my friends and I when I was younger, and we did not act in anyway like the guys in the video did. They were escalating the situation every chance they got, and were legitimately acting like complete animals. How can anyone watch that video and defend the way the 13 of them were acting towards one guy? It’s insane to absolve them of the clear danger posed to one person.
