I've had a IC-M700 sitting on my desk for over 2 years now (Sailing buddy of mine gave it to me) & this video finally got me motivated to put it on the air. I'll need to build me a "stacked" SRAM as those 48 channels just don't cut it. Nice work. 73 from WA5IDX (hamming it up for over 60 years).
I just bought a TY unit with CW, shipped in from CA later this week. I had a non TY years ago without the PA that was used as a civil air patrol trainer and I loved it. Hope this purchase works as good.
Very good mods. I like when someone gets creative as you did. I bought a CMC 26 CH SSB. It works fine. It can be opened up as well. Marconi seems to be a tank. My dad had WWII Wireless #19 sets that he played with. Mike
Oh wow those are definitely some neat radios. I am sure they will do a fine job on the air. Maybe add a digital VFO externally so that you can tune around? I wouldn’t put it in the same chassis since it is definitely not “original” in any sense. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. It’s fun to mod things and learn about them. 73!
Loved these Marine Radios, fully wide banded they were fun to play with. I had min running with a Motorola GMN-6146c Hand Mic. Never got a bad Audio Signal Report. Nice Video. 73 into Montrose...my Ex-Neighborhood. I used to live down on Hill Rose in Sunland near the Golf Court for a few Years. Happy Weekend de Uncle Guenter 💯👍🙋♂
Montrose! Not far from here at all. We got blanketed with snow today, it was really something. That Motorola mic looks interesting, it seems like it has a 2-transistor boost circuit, similar to the original mic for the M700. www.manualslib.com/manual/803666/Motorola-Gm1200e.html?page=34#manual
@@W6EL Correct about the Motorola Mic. I had to give it a minor Modification to reduce the high Sensitivity to keep unwanted Background Noises at their lowest possible. It gave it IC-M700 a great sounding TX Audio. From this Day on I am using these Motorola Hand Microphones with almost any of my Radios. I love the solid rugged Housing of these Mics, to be honest. The original Mic Cables are little cheasy and need to be repleaced by better ones. If these Things are changed on them you will have a durable good working Microphone for a long time. I mostly use them for mobile and portable Operation outside in all kinds of WX. 💯👍
I bought one of these (TY version) with the coupler (AT-120) for $100. It's a bit salty, but the transceiver works, haven't even hooked the tuner up yet.
@@JackSoffalot Have you ever considered modifying it to add LSB? I feel like a DPDT switch and a few wires might be all you need. Maybe send it my way?

I tell ya what, having more channels makes it a lot more usable. Plus disabling that “every single channel is split” thing.
Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the vid, I enjoyed it mate. I like the idea of repurposing professional gear for amateur use.
Thanks for the info. Will make for an interesting project with the two IC-M700TY's I just picked up.

fixed many of those in my days at thee company
Interesting! What we’re the most common issues?
Do you do work on radios?? I have one of these radios and would be interested in having some work done to it if you do.
I don't typically work on radios beyond my own collection. What's going on with yours?
thanks nice video 73 from kb2uew
I have on still in the box with antenna tuner. Never opened.
Wow! Put it on the air man! (Or sell it to me?) :-)
What is the value today July 2024. thanks
@@charleswalker4959 about $200. Maybe $250 if tested and good condition.
What’s the 10 meter mod?
Never mind I found it!
@@richardgreaker2522if you are successful let me know! I am still working out what to change in the LPF.
If tune no work
If the channel does not work.
Money
Around $250 is a good price. Not worth over $350
Mine doesn’t have a mode switch! Boo hoo!!
Really? What mode is it stuck in? USB?
@@W6EL yes, apparently they made some of these with no mode switch. So it’s stuck in USB

@@W6EL I just noticed mine is not the marine version (I bought it in the dark for $100 bucks lol) it’s the military version.
