Having just built a home theater, I completely agree with all of your points. Couple more pointers: 1) With theater seating, I discovered that I missed some of the benefits of a couch like laying down or cuddling with my wife. Consider this when choosing your seating. 2) Access to your components is essential. You might think you can simply set and forget but if you are a home theater enthusiast, you will want to tinker with different connections and will need access to troubleshoot problems which invariably arise. On this same point, you will need some kind of light to see the back of your components when you are connecting or checking cables. I keep a flashlight on hand although this isn’t really ideal. 3) Much of the movie theater decor (e.g. action figures, movie posters, sports memorabilia, popcorn maker) may seem fun but I suspect most will find it a bit gimmicky in the long run. I think it makes more sense to decorate so that the theater serves as a multifunctional living space. 4) In keeping with the last point, I think having a light which serves as a reading light is important. The recessed can lighting really doesn’t serve this purpose very well. 5) Storage is important. You will need a place to put your Blu-rays and DVDs and we use a wicker basket to store blankets and remotes. 6) Heat management is important. I have a custom credenza which is completely open in the back but I still needed to use fans to cool my components. I like Aircom which are USB powered, they are temperature activated and are almost completely silent. 7) Music (at least for me) is an important part of my home theater. Having the media credenza provides me a place for a turntable and CD player as well as a place to put my records and CDs. 8) More power! I had the good fortune to install 2 sets of 20 Amp circuits on the viewing wall with 2 sets of 4 sockets. The electrician was a moron and argued with me but fortunately I prevailed and am thankful for it. One regret is that I didn’t have the sockets placed higher than the standard distance off the floor. Why is it a good idea to make people bend over every time you plug something into a wall socket? 8) More outlets! If you have the option, put sockets everywhere including the floor. I love the floor outlet along with a power strip hidden behind the theater seats for my reading lamp, a digital picture frame and for phone chargers. 9) Lastly, be prepared for some disappointment with your kids, especially teenagers. Rarely will they sit down and watch a movie as a family. The best we can expect is that they will watch something with their friends but even this is not very often. Anyhow, hope this helps and thank you for a great video.
Agree completely with your seating comment. In my view, conventional theater seating is the most anti-social possible. Impossible to socialize with friends or family when performance is over and as a result totally reduces the time and duration of use.

Regarding seating, our oldest teenage daughter really enjoyed the theater with so many of her friends. It was well worth it having them over all the time :) Great video!
Great advice. Especially number one. Another is to get two dedicated powerlines. People get twin subs and 10+ channels but then lack the “juice” to power them
When you see home theater setups in magazines or tour videos they are often huge and designed for tons of guests. Those things are amazing, but that's just not everyone's lifestyle. It was great to see your labor of love and how you're maximizing the experience for the reality of how your setup gets used, not the original fantasy of how it might be used. I sympathized with your 2-story wiring limitations. My theater space is in an existing finished basement. I am seriously considering just ripping out the drywall, running all the wires I might ever need, and then putting new drywall back on. Either that, or just run sound absorbing curtains all around and run all the wires behind that.
My next place if i end up moving I'll be ripping the walls down and doing it properly from day one :D My room has changed a lot since this video though.
I’ve gone in the opposite direction. I now have a simple Yamaha Soundbar with the included Sub. It’s not a hifi, but I like minimalism and simplicity with no wires everywhere!
Great advice. I am on my 3rd home theater system. I built my 1st in 1996. I used M&K Center, mains and Sub with Wharfdales for rear and front presence. I had cables going everywhere. When we remodeled the house I was sure i had it this time. I put in conduit with pull through ropes so I could run my cables later. I setup 10 power outlets on the rear wall. The conduit was not big enough for the additional cables and power needs. On my 3rd rebuild I ran larger conduit for the speaker cables and separate conduit for the power due to crosstalk interference. As I am close the the sea, my equipment suffers and the mother boards deteriorate to failure in about 8 years. This is my last rebuild. I have learnt how to cut strips out of the plasterboard to lay cables and then patch the plaster later. I now have 24 power points in the room! I am 74 years old and I remember our house in a country town that had 3 power points in the whole house! And yes, I seem to watch movies alone, and my classic music collection is also listened to alone. I now only buy sound equipment that can be networked and controlled with an app via the home network. One important thing if you go to conduit and pull through rope. When you pull a speaker cable or power cable through always pair another pull through rope to that cable.
Peter Andrews this is great feedback. I wish I’d known about this for sure before building and now I’m paying for it especially as it’s a double story I can’t get between floors to drop cables. So it’s expensive work getting an electrician in.
I always wanted a home theater but never had one. Many times I visited a lot of my friends, their theaters and a whole lot of things. But after sometime of watching in it, especially since watching Interstellar movie I realized one things : Scenario 1 : Watching Interstellar on IMAX. It was mind blowing. I forgot I was in theater. Scenario 2 : Watching The Dark Knight at my friend's Home Theater. It was Mind blowing and I forgot I was in his home. Scenario 3 : Watching Dunkirk in my Phone, just when about to go to bed. It didn't make a damn difference. All the scenarios induced same amount of indulgence into the movie. So, unless you are going to watch a movie multiple times i.e. more than 2 or 3 times, all these set ups are not worth it. Honestly, as we grow in age, we rarely find time to even have a chat with friends. Only pleasure that we are going to get out of all this is actually in building things up and finishing the setup than actually enjoying the setup. After a few initial gimmicks we forget where the sound is coming from. The same is with my 3D TV too. It wasn't worth all the extra money. Now, I just watch movies on my Monitor with Dolby atmos app on windows 10, Netflix/Prime, and a pair of Sony bluetooth normal headphones and a pretty ordinary chair. It doesn't make a damn difference of any of the multimedia set up, because I realized *It is the movie that matters not how you see it *. Sure it enhances the experience and makes it memorable, but most of the times those memories are lost after the first couple of movies of experiencing it. I realized how it is the seating position and its comfort that decides how much you are going to enjoy a movie even if it is in 2.0. Someday I will get a home theater like this. Until then I envy all the people like you.
The biggest difference is when you rewatch a good movie on a WORSE setup. Then it feels really bad, because you wait for those awesome moments and they are so much less powerful than what you remembered and it's just sadness... I think it happens more with audio than visuals. With visuals, as you said, I can forget about the screen as long as the effective field of view is similar (IMAX FOV can be achieved even with a tablet if you put it close to face...)
Couldn't disagree more - it makes a huge difference. Watching a movie like the 3 you list is a completely different experience in a theater than phone, computer, or even on a regular TV w/o a hi-fi set up. Yes the story is the same, but the experience is not comparable. The difference is, some people don't find value in the overall experience so investing in a room isn't a priority.

always buy stuff in stages. Speakers haven't really changed in design for decades. .. I also can't get over the fact that sound is much improved with sound treatment.. using acoustic panels. I've also got dedicated subwoofer foam under my sub and it's so much better. All you get is bass directly from the sub and room doesn't rattle as a result. Also put similar foam under the main speakers it just cuts out all the vibrations.
With the exception of subwoofers. Decades ago they weren't even available to the average "hi-fi" consumer. Then compare the first generations to what's available today and the difference is pretty big.
I love it when people are amped about milestones, like reaching 1k subs, and then looking down at their subs, you see that they have far exceeded their goals, brings tears to my eyes, my fellow hoomans.
You are a man after my own heart, I've built a similar theatre and plan to make a video showing it off. There are always compromises you have to make, and lessons hard learnt. Great to see an Aussie showing off his set up, and sharing the passion. Very impressive. If you are bothered about the subwoofer and riser situation, I highly recommend building your own subwoofer enclosures, like I did. I got the design for some infrasonic enclosures, known as the wolfhorn SDX and built my riser around two of these monster enclosures measuring 2100x1000x350, which gave my an ideal height for my rider of around 400mm, let alone the bass which pops doors open downstairs at about 60% volume on a 3000w behringer amp. Great project and no matter how much I talk them up to friends, when they feel 16hz, they giggle like children!
Excellent video, this is exactly the type of information I wish I had seen before building my dedicated Home Theatre room around 8 years ago! You make some very important points that I could relate to as I watched your video. In particular; Putting your A/V rack outside the room - I didn't and I can say it definitely makes my room very hot, meaning we are always running the air con in there even on a mild day. Seat placement and adding a riser - I also wish I made my riser higher, it's only around 30cm high. As you mentioned, we also need the front seats reclined a little to get the best view. Also we have 5 seats (designed for the wife & I + 3 kids), yet 90% of the time it's just the wife and I watching alone 😂😂 Speaker points - I got the placement right, however, I didn't allow enough cable to protrude through the wall when running the cable. I've now realised my side & rear surrounds are slightly too high up the wall and I would like to lower them by approx 50cm, but I can't do this easily as I made the speaker cable too short. Lesson learned, speaker cable is relatively cheap so always run more than you need. Lighting - Just like you I originally thought Theatre Rooms are meant to be really dark right? It wasn't until the room was completed that I realised I didn't give the lighting anywhere near enough thought and had dark pockets all around the room. It was an expensive exercise to pay an electrician to come out and retrofit new wiring throughout the ceiling and install lights where I actually needed them. Budget - This is the clincher! I had absolutely no idea how expensive this room would be. Even now, it's a work in progress so it's still costing me a small fortune. As a Home Theatre enthusiast, I agree that it's really important to set some kind of budget at the outset, but also consider how some equipment seems to constantly change year after year as technology evolves (yes AV Receivers, I'm looking at you 😜) So also consider the cost of upgrading aging A/V equipment if you want to keep up with the latest technology. All said and done, It's an incredibly immersive and enjoyable hobby, and thoroughly worth the investment. Since this video, I have come a long way in the learning journey - My room now has Artnovion panels with diffusion and absorption, as well as Vicoustic absorbers behind my acoustic curtains - star ceiling made from acoustic pinboard - it makes the room sound how it should sound... Updated room tour coming on my channel for my latest 9.4.6 setup :)

One thing to mention - Make use of the used market! I've rarely owned any new AV Home Theater gear and I am now running 7.2.4 atmos using Paradigm Studio 60 v3's, cc590 v4 and marantz monoblocks thru a denon x3600h. The used market is where you save a lot!
I love my home theater i started with sony and dell projector and ended up with all klipsch and polk subs 135" elite screen and a 4k epson projector dolby atmos 11.2 with a denon and holy smokes best investment ever i must say though size is a huge role i had to end up building a whole other room just for 18x26 for this setup well worth it and yes it can expensive so quick thank you for this great video
Ouch! I can only imagine spending all this time and money into a theater and then just have my kids go off on their phones instead of enjoying movie time with the family. I built my theater and we have family movie nights every Friday. I feel for you brother!
As soon as I graduate I am planning on pairing 2 HomePods through Apple TV 4K to my Epson 5050ub projector. And paint the room dark and then get a little acoustic treatment and call it a day. Those HomePods essentially have 2 subwoofers. And they are so good for a small theater room for me at least.

For room correction, I hung 34 blackout drapery panels around my 14.5' W x 19' L room. Very minimal reflections. I have a 7.1.4 system. Yamaha RX-Z11 receiver. One sub & one I-Beam VT-300 transducer in my seating platform riser.

I am wanting to convert our music rooom into a cinema room. 1) Cost/Budget - How Much Does It Cost To Set Up A Home Theater? - on a pretty low budget 2) Speaker points - was just going for a few bose speakers 3) Subwoofer placement - got only one. 4) Number of speakers you must consider this prior - was going for the old school quadraphonic choice. 5) AV Rack - which room to put it in? I thought the video projector had this built in?? 6) How many seats you want to have in the space and placement - was just going to use bean bags if I can find them in france !! 7) Acoustic panels - ceiling all sorted with timber frame supports seperated with rubber spacers. Room in basement. Door with solid insulation + blanket. 8) Lighting Plan - no problem with spot lights & long LED cable around the floor corners. 9) Power - Very lucky I put a triple socket set on the back wall and another side wall. 10) Speaker choices - I gues I can add more if required. Thanks for all your advice - a lost west aussie trying to set up a home cinema in France with the language barrier as well...
I never thought it was proper to put one sub in the front and the other in the back part of a room. I always thought it was either both in front or back. I am glad you mentioned this because my room only has the space for 1 sub in the back (due to door). This way, I can possibly put one there and another in the front like you did and have double subs. Thanks for your information.
People don't realize that audio costs way more than video. Tip: If you have the space mount your front speakers in the wall. The sound is WAY better as the wall becomes an infinite baffle. The sound stage becomes the entire size of the wall, plus you save space and have a cleaner customized look.
Excellent points, another ones I see people failing big time at are: 11. Getting a screen that doesn't go wall to wall. Even if you have a massive screen on a massive wall, it will still look small if it doesn't get close to the edges. That's something Youthman did right, that's one of the many reasons why his theater is so good. When the screen only covers the center of the wall, it will always look smaller than it actually is, and it loses that cinema effect we all are after. 12. Getting surrounds that don't match the fronts. People get these massive front speakers, but put very tiny surrounds, and as a result the sound becomes completely unbalanced. If the camera moves, you are not supposed to notice any difference between the sound coming from your surrounds than your fronts, or the center channel. Your surrounds should always be able to keep up with the fronts. A lot of home theaters are trash because of this.
I think the problem is throw. Unless you go ultra short throw some rooms just do not have the space to do wall to wall. Wish some of the big boy projectors had some bigger zooms.
@@salttrader4113 That's definitely a real point, a lot people just don't have the choice. That also applies to the surrounds thing, it also happens a lot, and often it is because of the room's size, some people can't properly separate the speakers at equal distances because of their room's limitations.
Buddy of mine has a state of the art dedicated home theater. We sit in my living room watching an Epson 2150 on a flat white crusty wall. With an old Yamaha RX-V361, Xbox one S, and a budget Klipsch 5.1 kit most of the time. He'll randomly bust out laughing about how much time and money he wasted. It's beautiful, and comfortable, but just not practical, and home-y. Mine is my only tv. Watch it all the time. So glad I seen, and stepped right over that rabbit hole.
@@BuildMontage Yes the absolute immersion with the audiophile sound, super dark blacks of the high end unit, and general awesome feel of the room is definitely incredible. A bit fiddly cranking it all up for just random netflix viewing but we do set aside certain movies for his place for sure. It's just weird how well my little ghetto theater works too tho. Maybe $1500US in the whole thing lol.

One of the best videos I’ve seen how to Build a Home theatre explains how it’s kind of like A will I will say it’s like a bruised orange you might not get the juice that you were looking for but sometimes you gotta work around that and Expect a little bit of disappointment and I like how you explain this in your video grate work I love the video man 2 👍👍
If you only need 10mm for an in-wall just build a spacer. It can be just the size of the speaker, be full height like a column detail. Anything really. Food for thought.
Agreed that can be done. I’m going for something different now. All Krix speakers Symmetrix in walls and MX-10 front sound stage and Atmospherix A20 in ceiling. Latest video on my channel explains the upgrade
Great Advice and so true. I am currently buidling a dedicated home theater in my dedicated room that was built for it. Another great advice would be to join a community like AVS forums to get others opinions and ideas and doing research. I did so much research for months, all I could do is think about home theater but still I am learning. I am glad I am done with sound proofing walls and ceiling with double drywall, green glue, sound clips, hat channels.. etc.. SO tired but maybe one day I will put up some pictures tho I wish i documented it more but then it takes alot of time as well to do so.. Anyways great channel!

I agree wholeheartedly on your advise to pre-run enough wires to upgrade as much as you possibly can. It's a huge pain to run wires once you have the walls and ceilings finished.
If you still thinking about klipsch in wall you could extend your wall out and it would look like columns just a thought. I used bookshelf speakers for my atmos using heavy duty ceiling brackets and it was like night and day compared to the inceiling speakers I originally had .
Thankfully I'm single level over here in NZ , had pipes in the walls for future proofing for when I want to add or move cables , that's also a good thing if building a new house..and having a theater room

I'm an IT guy and this is really sound advice. The best way to make upgrades easier and cheaper is to run conduit. Even just one big one that goes from front to back in the ceiling or floor will save loads down the road. Make sure to pull a new drawstring with the cable every time you pull new cable. Conduit adds some cost initially, but it is the best way to deal with concerns of being able to upgrade down the road, and everybody should be concerned about that.
some decent points, but some are a bit off. 1. the front L and R don't face the seating they face sidewalls left to right and right to left. Too get it correct you sit in your seat while sliding a mirror on the wall until you see the cone of the speakers. Then that is where you put sound diffusers. 2. sound dampening insulation is actually counter productive too the speaker sound quality. Since the sound hits the wall and its absorbed. typically you smash a ton of screws around where you have speakers to stop the vibration transfer. 3. If you go in-wall once again smash tons of screws in the room and out. Also do not mount them into insulation. 3. Klipsh actually isn't that great they are basically like bose or sonos, if you want to spend money on towers something like tannoy would be much better than box store brand. 4. he never covered the importance for types of screens for rooms or projectors, yes speakers are important but these 2 are a huge make or break. I always recommend spending around 15k on equipment (this is middle tier not high end). This guy does have a half decent grasp on the basics but, not all

Great stuff i'm currently building in Perth my room is 5.5 m X 6.1 m . It is single story so i think i have a lot more room for errors than yourself however the detail you have gone into has really made me re think what i will be doing as i want to build the setup myself as much as possible so thanks for the advise i'm now subbed and will be watching a lot more of the videos

If you’re still intent on using Klipsch in-wall speakers, considering building a frame for the speakers that would add depth, lifting them away from the wall. Of course they wouldn’t be flush but it’s an option.

The issue with two overhead is that it’s stuck in a single plane. Four speakers overhead allow for more blending of the sound between a larger space. I have 6 overhead and find that is really immersive. But two is better than none :)
Great Video. I have a 7.2.6 theater and yes it gets very expensive and things I didnt think about which can kill your sound. I have all Klipsch Reference speakers and didnt think of how much sound I was loosing, so then came sound management which added up to lol alot. The difference between having an Av receiver and then going to seperated added and enormous amount. It is very very costly to say the least but I do enjoy it, But one thing you really said that hit me also was I built my theater when my kids were all in High School and we were the house to be at on Friday nights for movies or whatever , mostly XBOX live, but now they are all grown and its mostly me and my wife and usally just me in the room, So It seems a bit overkill for me now but I still enjoy it like the first day I built it. Keep up the great work. And Good day mate. The one thing that wasn't and option when I built it was 100 inch Sony Tv's, And as of today they are 20 grand which i wouldnt even think about but when you add up what a great projector cost and a screen to match it, it runs over that and you just cant compare the picture to the sony bravia line.
I grew up with a very nice klipch audio powered theater room but my parents went with what looked like a very small 60in plasma tc at the time which was literally 6 grand.. its crazy now how you can get quiet a nice 720P projector for really really cheap and it looks better then an old plazma and larger. I have a veryh budget apartment home theatre in comparison but have got everything very equally complimenting to one another with only my sound system a bit more overspent on then the rest of the theater but i personally believe sound is more important as it has the power to really bring you into the show and you all of a suddenly forget that you are only watching in 1080p. My optoma projector costed $1500 3 years ago and now you can get fairly nice 4k projectors for that money... glad i spent more of my budget on sound over picture because I can still upgrade my picture without needing to upgrade sound except adding another subwoofer when we do have our own house.

Luckily caution kept me from making 2 bad buys.. Youve takin it to a much higher level than i ever thought about.. And again koodos to you sir..i apply your tips & techniques to my living space . B&W, Monitor Audio & Paradigm all have great in wall speakers. as your heart leans to Klipsch, i lean _hard_ toward B&W. i have CT8.4 LCR & CWM7.3 for bed channels. Hi ! Nice Comments on your system. I'm a Pro Integrator( An Audio Engineer ) in the states and have built many systems. Enjoyed your post, thank you! As you've found out, It's way easy to over spend on this and that trying to achieve a well rounded AV system. You've covered areas that most people would never give a second thought to, that was nice to see. I, and I'm sure many other Pro AV people have to deal with are the "Designers" who mostly give zero thought to the AV Tech and creators who actually build these systems. I've seen all manor of "Why would you do that?" and then have to compensate for some designer aspect. Anyway, I didn't hear you talk about your Subs and if they are Phased correctly. i.e > make sure that Just one of the Subs is 180 degree's out of phase ( At the Powered Sub, Or the AMP ) so that your not cancelling out frequencies that are crucial to a balanced system. After which you'll need to ( I hate to say it ) Re-Calibrate the room. Use the onboard receiver if you have one ( Mic ) and allow it to EQ ( Impulse Response ) 2 Subs of any size in a smaller room can cause a massive build up of low frequencies that you absolutely need Bass traps in the upper corners where the ceiling meets the two adjacent walls. This will eliminate standing waves and frequency build up and mitigate early reflections. Tight controlled bass in the 35~80 Hertz range is what we're after. Lastly, Once you've Re- EQ, after any new treatments are installed, remember that Bass is DONE after which you can distinctly hear the frequencies. Bass does not need to be pushed in order to be effective. It can actually degrade the performance overall. What I do sometime is install a decent but affordable compressor in line, then set the ratio to 2:1 or 3:1, attack at 1. and threshold at -3db, this will make sure that as you turn the volume up, everything stays even, tight and focused, with no clipping of the system. It also allows you to hear subtle nuances by decreasing dynamic range over the threshold, and helps with the super high 13k to 24k frequncies. Plus, make sure that each SUB is crossed over at the same frequency. I usually look that the smallest speaker in the system specs to see where they roll off at ( Usually 80 Hz ) then salt to taste, but not much. BTW, I have a hand made Pair of Klipsch KG 4.5's that will never be for sale. I use them in my recording studio, they are THAT good! Peace..

Quite a bit has changed/will be changed since I made that video, and of course, I'm not a professional, just someone who's trying to make a nice theater room and help those who, like me, have no idea when they start, and just some things to look out for. I've learned a lot, and have oodles more to learn in this hobby, and my speakers are all being changed soon, so some of what you said has been considered :) especially the sub phase. @@BuildMontage Thanks Man! If I told you all the mistakes I made while building systems and trying things out it's astonishing. But one thing I've learned that still holds true. If it sounds good to you, it IS good! There is no magic sauce that makes any one system better than the next. I guess if we all had unlimited budgets we could design the perfect system. I simply ask my clients what do you really need to watch a movie and be satisfied given a particular budget? These days with incredible 4k TVs for cheap and speakers that are phenomenal mixed with a decent Pioneer, or Onkyo amp Atmos and you're 98% there, don't sweat the details that much and enjoy more with less stress. So I was thinking of investing some into my set up at home to watch movies. I was given a nice receiver as a birthday gift because I love listening to records and decent stereo equipment, so my girl thought I’d be into a home theater set up for watching films. But then I saw this wow! Way too much time and money. I can’t imagine investing so much into sitting on my ass. I think I’ll just stick with my stereo set up and invest in records, books, and more creative endeavors.
You know what, it's a strange thing because it does feel a little opulent for not spending huge amounts of time in there - but it's like any hobby - sometimes the hobby itself becomes the enjoyment factor - and trying to get things right.
I built a house. Prewired everything. I built a recess into the side wall and house all the av equipment in there. I have just the screen and L C R speakers in front of me, no cabinet protruding into the room

I know it's 2 yrs old but very relevant to where we are now, building a new house and have started designing a theatre room with a Sydney based company and the cost has gone way higher than expected! We're looking at a 7x2x4 system with Denon receiver and Sony 4k laser projector with a 4m screen and paradigm pro speakers and subs.. Advise was great, would love to hear more!

Lots of good points. It took me a month to design and execute with a few revisions along the way. One other point to consider is to have extra cables such as HDMI and Ethernet that you may need in the future. Great video.
lol re: the seating, i got friends who built a big house when they had teenage kids, and the kids all moved out within the year. Then they had a BIG EMPTY house.
Yes, I still haven't got mine in yet but that's because I'm upgrading the whole room and I'll put those in once its all painted up and new speakers are in. I'm building two diffusers for the back wall

It's a tough pill to swallow when you realise it's not the best setup, but I managed to turn it all around and have actually rebuilt my theater since this video. I have a few videos on it but haven't done the tour yet as I need to do the acoustic treatment to finish it all off
Great video.... Monitor Audio is a HUGE upgrade from the Klipsch so even though you had your heart set on Klipsch, you ended up getting a better speaker. IMO.
Great job! I think you bring these things into the realm of understanding and possibilities for the average consumer-honest, direct, and very helpful information! I agree that comfort and practicality are major points for consideration. I have the exact same riser and seats and after 6 months I find myself wishing I had excluded the front row, or maybe used the space to better include my music hobbies. By the way, this is the first and only channel I’ve ever subscribed to and there are a lot of greats out there (I really like Youthman’s content too-think I’ll head over and “hit that subscribe button” next)!

Pretty much - 125” acoustically transparent screen, and I wholeheartedly agree! Considering my room dimensions (16ft W X 19ft L) I was a little concerned initially (especially for the front row) but all viewing positions are great! Also, I have no doubt you’ll hit your milestone - you’re doing a great job!

Klipsch makes some great looking and sounding speakers, I love mine! If you want really good bass from a subwoofer, I would suggest SVS or Stereo Integrity instead of Klipsch's smaller theater line. Great video and information!

My room is small, so I'm considering SVS, I'd love the PB16 but it would be too big for my room, so maybe the PB2000 x2. What speakers are you running?
@@BuildMontage For the average listener the copper style subwoofers are great and I enjoy them for what they are. Current setup is: Klipsch RF-7 II Front left/Right Klipsch RC-64 III Center Klipsch RS-52 IV for both back Rear Surrounds and Side Surrounds Klipsch KPT-1802-HLS for subwoofer. Had a stereo integrity HT 18 in custom enclosure before I was able to get a killer deal on klipsch's pro cinema subwoofers which are made for auditoriums haha.
OK.. yeah, so... I'm more than just a BIT jealous... RF7s are like my dream speaker, I even photoshopped them in one of my videos :) The PRO-CINEMA lineup is crazy, I've seen those in a few official Klipsch videos.. Great score!! My setup is all I could fit in my small room at the time, and I'm actually going to go in-walls to further maximise the space and create a really nice stealthy room. But agree the Klipsch subs need replacing.. in fact, I'm "repurposing" my sound stage and the two subs to another media room upstairs :) Would you think the SVS PB-3000s will work well with a Klipsch?
@@BuildMontage I think it it's a real misconception that any brand sub works good with a certain brans if speaker. I bought 2 15" monitor audio gold subs to go with my monitor audio speakers and while the speakers are amazing the subs were not up to par either. I have 2x svs sb-4000 now and am blown away. Literally twice as powerful each with no distortion and better frequency response. 2 svs 3000 subs would go great with any speakers. Svs have deals with moat stores where when you buy 2 you get 15% off. I know this is the case at melbourne hifi where I bought mine. You should consider them for sure.

Great advice all around. I built my home theater in 2013 and can relate exactly to your point on seating. Those in front need to recline which normally they want to do any, but yes that was a miss!
Great advice. All excellent points. I personally feel like #10 "Speaker Choice" should be moved up to your #2 spot and then continue with #3 as "Speaker Points". At the end of the day, it is all about personal audio and aesthetic preference, but starting with your speaker choice (brand) is absolutely important because the rest of the planning will need to work around your system requirement and preferences. For my own personal system, I went with the B&W 700 Series in satin white.

Having owned RF280F's (the 5.1 package), and listened to Klipsch "in wall" speakers i can say you wont be sorry you didn't pick the in-wall ones. They sounded absolutely horrible! I really loved the 280F's, great sound, great punch, so when i heard the in-wall ones that i wanted to get i was sort of shocked. Ended up getting MK's instead.

@Oran Clay completely untrue. Everyone would watch a beautiful movie that was bad. I couldn't care less about audio.
Having just built a home theater, I completely agree with all of your points. Couple more pointers:
1) With theater seating, I discovered that I missed some of the benefits of a couch like laying down or cuddling with my wife. Consider this when choosing your seating.
2) Access to your components is essential. You might think you can simply set and forget but if you are a home theater enthusiast, you will want to tinker with different connections and will need access to troubleshoot problems which invariably arise. On this same point, you will need some kind of light to see the back of your components when you are connecting or checking cables. I keep a flashlight on hand although this isn’t really ideal.
3) Much of the movie theater decor (e.g. action figures, movie posters, sports memorabilia, popcorn maker) may seem fun but I suspect most will find it a bit gimmicky in the long run. I think it makes more sense to decorate so that the theater serves as a multifunctional living space.
4) In keeping with the last point, I think having a light which serves as a reading light is important. The recessed can lighting really doesn’t serve this purpose very well.
5) Storage is important. You will need a place to put your Blu-rays and DVDs and we use a wicker basket to store blankets and remotes.
6) Heat management is important. I have a custom credenza which is completely open in the back but I still needed to use fans to cool my components. I like Aircom which are USB powered, they are temperature activated and are almost completely silent.
7) Music (at least for me) is an important part of my home theater. Having the media credenza provides me a place for a turntable and CD player as well as a place to put my records and CDs.
8) More power! I had the good fortune to install 2 sets of 20 Amp circuits on the viewing wall with 2 sets of 4 sockets. The electrician was a moron and argued with me but fortunately I prevailed and am thankful for it. One regret is that I didn’t have the sockets placed higher than the standard distance off the floor. Why is it a good idea to make people bend over every time you plug something into a wall socket?
8) More outlets! If you have the option, put sockets everywhere including the floor. I love the floor outlet along with a power strip hidden behind the theater seats for my reading lamp, a digital picture frame and for phone chargers.
9) Lastly, be prepared for some disappointment with your kids, especially teenagers. Rarely will they sit down and watch a movie as a family. The best we can expect is that they will watch something with their friends but even this is not very often.

Agree completely with your seating comment. In my view, conventional theater seating is the most anti-social possible. Impossible to socialize with friends or family when performance is over and as a result totally reduces the time and duration of use.

When you see home theater setups in magazines or tour videos they are often huge and designed for tons of guests. Those things are amazing, but that's just not everyone's lifestyle. It was great to see your labor of love and how you're maximizing the experience for the reality of how your setup gets used, not the original fantasy of how it might be used. I sympathized with your 2-story wiring limitations. My theater space is in an existing finished basement. I am seriously considering just ripping out the drywall, running all the wires I might ever need, and then putting new drywall back on. Either that, or just run sound absorbing curtains all around and run all the wires behind that.
My next place if i end up moving I'll be ripping the walls down and doing it properly from day one :D My room has changed a lot since this video though.

I’ve gone in the opposite direction. I now have a simple Yamaha Soundbar with the included Sub. It’s not a hifi, but I like minimalism and simplicity with no wires everywhere!
My idea as well, then again not a sound enthusiast, never been interested in speakers.
Great advice. I am on my 3rd home theater system. I built my 1st in 1996. I used M&K Center, mains and Sub with Wharfdales for rear and front presence. I had cables going everywhere. When we remodeled the house I was sure i had it this time. I put in conduit with pull through ropes so I could run my cables later. I setup 10 power outlets on the rear wall. The conduit was not big enough for the additional cables and power needs. On my 3rd rebuild I ran larger conduit for the speaker cables and separate conduit for the power due to crosstalk interference. As I am close the the sea, my equipment suffers and the mother boards deteriorate to failure in about 8 years. This is my last rebuild. I have learnt how to cut strips out of the plasterboard to lay cables and then patch the plaster later. I now have 24 power points in the room! I am 74 years old and I remember our house in a country town that had 3 power points in the whole house! And yes, I seem to watch movies alone, and my classic music collection is also listened to alone. I now only buy sound equipment that can be networked and controlled with an app via the home network. One important thing if you go to conduit and pull through rope. When you pull a speaker cable or power cable through always pair another pull through rope to that cable.
Peter Andrews this is great feedback. I wish I’d known about this for sure before building and now I’m paying for it especially as it’s a double story I can’t get between floors to drop cables. So it’s expensive work getting an electrician in.
I always wanted a home theater but never had one. Many times I visited a lot of my friends, their theaters and a whole lot of things. But after sometime of watching in it, especially since watching Interstellar movie I realized one things :
Scenario 1 : Watching Interstellar on IMAX. It was mind blowing. I forgot I was in theater.
Scenario 2 : Watching The Dark Knight at my friend's Home Theater. It was Mind blowing and I forgot I was in his home.
Scenario 3 : Watching Dunkirk in my Phone, just when about to go to bed.
It didn't make a damn difference. All the scenarios induced same amount of indulgence into the movie. So, unless you are going to watch a movie multiple times i.e. more than 2 or 3 times, all these set ups are not worth it. Honestly, as we grow in age, we rarely find time to even have a chat with friends. Only pleasure that we are going to get out of all this is actually in building things up and finishing the setup than actually enjoying the setup.
After a few initial gimmicks we forget where the sound is coming from. The same is with my 3D TV too. It wasn't worth all the extra money.
Now, I just watch movies on my Monitor with Dolby atmos app on windows 10, Netflix/Prime, and a pair of Sony bluetooth normal headphones and a pretty ordinary chair.
It doesn't make a damn difference of any of the multimedia set up, because I realized *It is the movie that matters not how you see it *. Sure it enhances the experience and makes it memorable, but most of the times those memories are lost after the first couple of movies of experiencing it.
I realized how it is the seating position and its comfort that decides how much you are going to enjoy a movie even if it is in 2.0.
Someday I will get a home theater like this. Until then I envy all the people like you.
The biggest difference is when you rewatch a good movie on a WORSE setup. Then it feels really bad, because you wait for those awesome moments and they are so much less powerful than what you remembered and it's just sadness... I think it happens more with audio than visuals. With visuals, as you said, I can forget about the screen as long as the effective field of view is similar (IMAX FOV can be achieved even with a tablet if you put it close to face...)
Couldn't disagree more - it makes a huge difference. Watching a movie like the 3 you list is a completely different experience in a theater than phone, computer, or even on a regular TV w/o a hi-fi set up. Yes the story is the same, but the experience is not comparable. The difference is, some people don't find value in the overall experience so investing in a room isn't a priority.

always buy stuff in stages. Speakers haven't really changed in design for decades. .. I also can't get over the fact that sound is much improved with sound treatment.. using acoustic panels. I've also got dedicated subwoofer foam under my sub and it's so much better. All you get is bass directly from the sub and room doesn't rattle as a result. Also put similar foam under the main speakers it just cuts out all the vibrations.
With the exception of subwoofers. Decades ago they weren't even available to the average "hi-fi" consumer. Then compare the first generations to what's available today and the difference is pretty big.
I love it when people are amped about milestones, like reaching 1k subs, and then looking down at their subs, you see that they have far exceeded their goals, brings tears to my eyes, my fellow hoomans.

You are a man after my own heart, I've built a similar theatre and plan to make a video showing it off. There are always compromises you have to make, and lessons hard learnt. Great to see an Aussie showing off his set up, and sharing the passion. Very impressive. If you are bothered about the subwoofer and riser situation, I highly recommend building your own subwoofer enclosures, like I did. I got the design for some infrasonic enclosures, known as the wolfhorn SDX and built my riser around two of these monster enclosures measuring 2100x1000x350, which gave my an ideal height for my rider of around 400mm, let alone the bass which pops doors open downstairs at about 60% volume on a 3000w behringer amp. Great project and no matter how much I talk them up to friends, when they feel 16hz, they giggle like children!

Excellent video, this is exactly the type of information I wish I had seen before building my dedicated Home Theatre room around 8 years ago! You make some very important points that I could relate to as I watched your video. In particular;
Putting your A/V rack outside the room - I didn't and I can say it definitely makes my room very hot, meaning we are always running the air con in there even on a mild day.
Seat placement and adding a riser - I also wish I made my riser higher, it's only around 30cm high. As you mentioned, we also need the front seats reclined a little to get the best view. Also we have 5 seats (designed for the wife & I + 3 kids), yet 90% of the time it's just the wife and I watching alone 😂😂
Speaker points - I got the placement right, however, I didn't allow enough cable to protrude through the wall when running the cable. I've now realised my side & rear surrounds are slightly too high up the wall and I would like to lower them by approx 50cm, but I can't do this easily as I made the speaker cable too short. Lesson learned, speaker cable is relatively cheap so always run more than you need.
Lighting - Just like you I originally thought Theatre Rooms are meant to be really dark right? It wasn't until the room was completed that I realised I didn't give the lighting anywhere near enough thought and had dark pockets all around the room. It was an expensive exercise to pay an electrician to come out and retrofit new wiring throughout the ceiling and install lights where I actually needed them.
Budget - This is the clincher! I had absolutely no idea how expensive this room would be. Even now, it's a work in progress so it's still costing me a small fortune. As a Home Theatre enthusiast, I agree that it's really important to set some kind of budget at the outset, but also consider how some equipment seems to constantly change year after year as technology evolves (yes AV Receivers, I'm looking at you 😜) So also consider the cost of upgrading aging A/V equipment if you want to keep up with the latest technology.

Since this video, I have come a long way in the learning journey - My room now has Artnovion panels with diffusion and absorption, as well as Vicoustic absorbers behind my acoustic curtains - star ceiling made from acoustic pinboard - it makes the room sound how it should sound... One thing to mention - Make use of the used market! I've rarely owned any new AV Home Theater gear and I am now running 7.2.4 atmos using Paradigm Studio 60 v3's, cc590 v4 and marantz monoblocks thru a denon x3600h. The used market is where you save a lot!
I love my home theater i started with sony and dell projector and ended up with all klipsch and polk subs 135" elite screen and a 4k epson projector dolby atmos 11.2 with a denon and holy smokes best investment ever i must say though size is a huge role i had to end up building a whole other room just for 18x26 for this setup well worth it and yes it can expensive so quick thank you for this great video

As soon as I graduate I am planning on pairing 2 HomePods through Apple TV 4K to my Epson 5050ub projector. And paint the room dark and then get a little acoustic treatment and call it a day. Those HomePods essentially have 2 subwoofers. And they are so good for a small theater room for me at least.

For room correction, I hung 34 blackout drapery panels around my 14.5' W x 19' L room. Very minimal reflections. I have a 7.1.4 system. Yamaha RX-Z11 receiver. One sub & one I-Beam VT-300 transducer in my seating platform riser.

I am wanting to convert our music rooom into a cinema room.
1) Cost/Budget - How Much Does It Cost To Set Up A Home Theater? - on a pretty low budget
2) Speaker points - was just going for a few bose speakers
3) Subwoofer placement - got only one.
4) Number of speakers you must consider this prior - was going for the old school quadraphonic choice.
5) AV Rack - which room to put it in? I thought the video projector had this built in??
6) How many seats you want to have in the space and placement - was just going to use bean bags if I can find them in france !!
7) Acoustic panels - ceiling all sorted with timber frame supports seperated with rubber spacers. Room in basement. Door with solid insulation + blanket.
8) Lighting Plan - no problem with spot lights & long LED cable around the floor corners.
9) Power - Very lucky I put a triple socket set on the back wall and another side wall.
10) Speaker choices - I gues I can add more if required.

I never thought it was proper to put one sub in the front and the other in the back part of a room. I always thought it was either both in front or back. I am glad you mentioned this because my room only has the space for 1 sub in the back (due to door). This way, I can possibly put one there and another in the front like you did and have double subs. Thanks for your information.
Yes it’s definitely fine to do it. You do need to check they are phased correctly though so they don’t cancel each other out.
People don't realize that audio costs way more than video.
Tip: If you have the space mount your front speakers in the wall. The sound is WAY better as the wall becomes an infinite baffle. The sound stage becomes the entire size of the wall, plus you save space and have a cleaner customized look.
Oh yeah, speakers are where it's at thats for sure. I'm about to replace my whole front soundstage with KRIX MX-10 speakers behind my screen :)
Excellent points, another ones I see people failing big time at are:
11. Getting a screen that doesn't go wall to wall. Even if you have a massive screen on a massive wall, it will still look small if it doesn't get close to the edges. That's something Youthman did right, that's one of the many reasons why his theater is so good. When the screen only covers the center of the wall, it will always look smaller than it actually is, and it loses that cinema effect we all are after.
12. Getting surrounds that don't match the fronts. People get these massive front speakers, but put very tiny surrounds, and as a result the sound becomes completely unbalanced. If the camera moves, you are not supposed to notice any difference between the sound coming from your surrounds than your fronts, or the center channel. Your surrounds should always be able to keep up with the fronts. A lot of home theaters are trash because of this.
I think the problem is throw. Unless you go ultra short throw some rooms just do not have the space to do wall to wall. Wish some of the big boy projectors had some bigger zooms.
@@salttrader4113 That's definitely a real point, a lot people just don't have the choice.
That also applies to the surrounds thing, it also happens a lot, and often it is because of the room's size, some people can't properly separate the speakers at equal distances because of their room's limitations.
Buddy of mine has a state of the art dedicated home theater. We sit in my living room watching an Epson 2150 on a flat white crusty wall. With an old Yamaha RX-V361, Xbox one S, and a budget Klipsch 5.1 kit most of the time. He'll randomly bust out laughing about how much time and money he wasted. It's beautiful, and comfortable, but just not practical, and home-y. Mine is my only tv. Watch it all the time. So glad I seen, and stepped right over that rabbit hole.

@@BuildMontage Yes the absolute immersion with the audiophile sound, super dark blacks of the high end unit, and general awesome feel of the room is definitely incredible. A bit fiddly cranking it all up for just random netflix viewing but we do set aside certain movies for his place for sure. It's just weird how well my little ghetto theater works too tho. Maybe $1500US in the whole thing lol.

If you only need 10mm for an in-wall just build a spacer. It can be just the size of the speaker, be full height like a column detail. Anything really. Food for thought.
Agreed that can be done. I’m going for something different now. All Krix speakers Symmetrix in walls and MX-10 front sound stage and Atmospherix A20 in ceiling. Latest video on my channel explains the upgrade
Great Advice and so true. I am currently buidling a dedicated home theater in my dedicated room that was built for it. Another great advice would be to join a community like AVS forums to get others opinions and ideas and doing research. I did so much research for months, all I could do is think about home theater but still I am learning. I am glad I am done with sound proofing walls and ceiling with double drywall, green glue, sound clips, hat channels.. etc.. SO tired but maybe one day I will put up some pictures tho I wish i documented it more but then it takes alot of time as well to do so.. Anyways great channel!

I agree wholeheartedly on your advise to pre-run enough wires to upgrade as much as you possibly can. It's a huge pain to run wires once you have the walls and ceilings finished.
If you still thinking about klipsch in wall you could extend your wall out and it would look like columns just a thought. I used bookshelf speakers for my atmos using heavy duty ceiling brackets and it was like night and day compared to the inceiling speakers I originally had .

Thankfully I'm single level over here in NZ , had pipes in the walls for future proofing for when I want to add or move cables , that's also a good thing if building a new house..and having a theater room

I'm an IT guy and this is really sound advice. The best way to make upgrades easier and cheaper is to run conduit. Even just one big one that goes from front to back in the ceiling or floor will save loads down the road. Make sure to pull a new drawstring with the cable every time you pull new cable. Conduit adds some cost initially, but it is the best way to deal with concerns of being able to upgrade down the road, and everybody should be concerned about that.
My front row is bean bag chairs haha proper seating I think is my next big upgrade.

some decent points, but some are a bit off. 1. the front L and R don't face the seating they face sidewalls left to right and right to left. Too get it correct you sit in your seat while sliding a mirror on the wall until you see the cone of the speakers. Then that is where you put sound diffusers. 2. sound dampening insulation is actually counter productive too the speaker sound quality. Since the sound hits the wall and its absorbed. typically you smash a ton of screws around where you have speakers to stop the vibration transfer. 3. If you go in-wall once again smash tons of screws in the room and out. Also do not mount them into insulation. 3. Klipsh actually isn't that great they are basically like bose or sonos, if you want to spend money on towers something like tannoy would be much better than box store brand. 4. he never covered the importance for types of screens for rooms or projectors, yes speakers are important but these 2 are a huge make or break. I always recommend spending around 15k on equipment (this is middle tier not high end). This guy does have a half decent grasp on the basics but, not all

Great stuff i'm currently building in Perth my room is 5.5 m X 6.1 m . It is single story so i think i have a lot more room for errors than yourself however the detail you have gone into has really made me re think what i will be doing as i want to build the setup myself as much as possible so thanks for the advise i'm now subbed and will be watching a lot more of the videos

If you’re still intent on using Klipsch in-wall speakers, considering building a frame for the speakers that would add depth, lifting them away from the wall. Of course they wouldn’t be flush but it’s an option.

I went with a 7.1.2 and it sounds awesome. I really feel anything more is not necessary in a home theater for Atmos.
The issue with two overhead is that it’s stuck in a single plane. Four speakers overhead allow for more blending of the sound between a larger space. I have 6 overhead and find that is really immersive. But two is better than none :)

Great Video. I have a 7.2.6 theater and yes it gets very expensive and things I didnt think about which can kill your sound. I have all Klipsch Reference speakers and didnt think of how much sound I was loosing, so then came sound management which added up to lol alot. The difference between having an Av receiver and then going to seperated added and enormous amount. It is very very costly to say the least but I do enjoy it, But one thing you really said that hit me also was I built my theater when my kids were all in High School and we were the house to be at on Friday nights for movies or whatever , mostly XBOX live, but now they are all grown and its mostly me and my wife and usally just me in the room, So It seems a bit overkill for me now but I still enjoy it like the first day I built it. Keep up the great work. And Good day mate. The one thing that wasn't and option when I built it was 100 inch Sony Tv's, And as of today they are 20 grand which i wouldnt even think about but when you add up what a great projector cost and a screen to match it, it runs over that and you just cant compare the picture to the sony bravia line.
I grew up with a very nice klipch audio powered theater room but my parents went with what looked like a very small 60in plasma tc at the time which was literally 6 grand.. its crazy now how you can get quiet a nice 720P projector for really really cheap and it looks better then an old plazma and larger. I have a veryh budget apartment home theatre in comparison but have got everything very equally complimenting to one another with only my sound system a bit more overspent on then the rest of the theater but i personally believe sound is more important as it has the power to really bring you into the show and you all of a suddenly forget that you are only watching in 1080p. My optoma projector costed $1500 3 years ago and now you can get fairly nice 4k projectors for that money... glad i spent more of my budget on sound over picture because I can still upgrade my picture without needing to upgrade sound except adding another subwoofer when we do have our own house.

B&W, Monitor Audio & Paradigm all have great in wall speakers. as your heart leans to Klipsch, i lean _hard_ toward B&W.
i have CT8.4 LCR & CWM7.3 for bed channels. CCM7.3 for Atmos all powered by ATI class A/B amps.
gives me a thrill every time i walk in the room.

Hi ! Nice Comments on your system. I'm a Pro Integrator( An Audio Engineer ) in the states and have built many systems. Enjoyed your post, thank you!
As you've found out, It's way easy to over spend on this and that trying to achieve a well rounded AV system. You've covered areas that most people would never give a second thought to, that was nice to see. I, and I'm sure many other Pro AV people have to deal with are the "Designers" who mostly give zero thought to the AV Tech and creators who actually build these systems. I've seen all manor of "Why would you do that?" and then have to compensate for some designer aspect. Anyway, I didn't hear you talk about your Subs and if they are Phased correctly. i.e > make sure that Just one of the Subs is 180 degree's out of phase ( At the Powered Sub, Or the AMP ) so that your not cancelling out frequencies that are crucial to a balanced system. After which you'll need to ( I hate to say it ) Re-Calibrate the room. Use the onboard receiver if you have one ( Mic ) and allow it to EQ ( Impulse Response )
2 Subs of any size in a smaller room can cause a massive build up of low frequencies that you absolutely need Bass traps in the upper corners where the ceiling meets the two adjacent walls. This will eliminate standing waves and frequency build up and mitigate early reflections. Tight controlled bass in the 35~80 Hertz range is what we're after. Lastly, Once you've Re- EQ, after any new treatments are installed, remember that Bass is DONE after which you can distinctly hear the frequencies. Bass does not need to be pushed in order to be effective. It can actually degrade the performance overall. What I do sometime is install a decent but affordable compressor in line, then set the ratio to 2:1 or 3:1, attack at 1. and threshold at -3db, this will make sure that as you turn the volume up, everything stays even, tight and focused, with no clipping of the system. It also allows you to hear subtle nuances by decreasing dynamic range over the threshold, and helps with the super high 13k to 24k frequncies.
Plus, make sure that each SUB is crossed over at the same frequency. I usually look that the smallest speaker in the system specs to see where they roll off at ( Usually 80 Hz ) then salt to taste, but not much. BTW, I have a hand made Pair of Klipsch KG 4.5's that will never be for sale. I use them in my recording studio, they are THAT good! Peace..
Thanks for the detailed comment. Quite a bit has changed/will be changed since I made that video, and of course, I'm not a professional, just someone who's trying to make a nice theater room and help those who, like me, have no idea when they start, and just some things to look out for.
I've learned a lot, and have oodles more to learn in this hobby, and my speakers are all being changed soon, so some of what you said has been considered :) especially the sub phase.

If it sounds good to you, it IS good! There is no magic sauce that makes any one system better than the next. I guess if we all had unlimited budgets we could design the perfect system. I simply ask my clients what do you really need to watch a movie and be satisfied given a particular budget? These days with incredible 4k TVs
for cheap and speakers that are phenomenal mixed with a decent Pioneer, or Onkyo amp
Atmos and you're 98% there, don't sweat the details that much and enjoy more with less stress. All the best man !
So I was thinking of investing some into my set up at home to watch movies. I was given a nice receiver as a birthday gift because I love listening to records and decent stereo equipment, so my girl thought I’d be into a home theater set up for watching films. But then I saw this wow! Way too much time and money. I can’t imagine investing so much into sitting on my ass. I think I’ll just stick with my stereo set up and invest in records, books, and more creative endeavors.
You know what, it's a strange thing because it does feel a little opulent for not spending huge amounts of time in there - but it's like any hobby - sometimes the hobby itself becomes the enjoyment factor - and trying to get things right.
I built a house. Prewired everything. I built a recess into the side wall and house all the av equipment in there. I have just the screen and L C R speakers in front of me, no cabinet protruding into the room

Great video.. I know it's 2 yrs old but very relevant to where we are now, building a new house and have started designing a theatre room with a Sydney based company and the cost has gone way higher than expected!
We're looking at a 7x2x4 system with Denon receiver and Sony 4k laser projector with a 4m screen and paradigm pro speakers and subs..

I never thought about having a media cabinet, so planning that now outside the room, also looking at DIY step for the back row of seating and DIY picture acoustic panels!
Lots of good points. It took me a month to design and execute with a few revisions along the way. One other point to consider is to have extra cables such as HDMI and Ethernet that you may need in the future. Great video.

It's a tough pill to swallow when you realise it's not the best setup, but I managed to turn it all around and have actually rebuilt my theater since this video. I have a few videos on it but haven't done the tour yet as I need to do the acoustic treatment to finish it all off

Great video.... Monitor Audio is a HUGE upgrade from the Klipsch so even though you had your heart set on Klipsch, you ended up getting a better speaker. IMO.

Great job! I think you bring these things into the realm of understanding and possibilities for the average consumer-honest, direct, and very helpful information! I agree that comfort and practicality are major points for consideration. I have the exact same riser and seats and after 6 months I find myself wishing I had excluded the front row, or maybe used the space to better include my music hobbies. By the way, this is the first and only channel I’ve ever subscribed to and there are a lot of greats out there (I really like Youthman’s content too-think I’ll head over and “hit that subscribe button” next)!

Ahh I see. Do you have the same size screen? 120”? It’s surprisingly still quite comfortable to watch when you’re reclined. Be interested to hear.
Pretty much - 125” acoustically transparent screen, and I wholeheartedly agree! Considering my room dimensions (16ft W X 19ft L) I was a little concerned initially (especially for the front row) but all viewing positions are great! Also, I have no doubt you’ll hit your milestone - you’re doing a great job!
I’m going to have to go AT to get in walls in. Can’t build it out any more or it’s even closer!! And yes hit 1004 this morning :)

Klipsch makes some great looking and sounding speakers, I love mine! If you want really good bass from a subwoofer, I would suggest SVS or Stereo Integrity instead of Klipsch's smaller theater line. Great video and information!
Thanks :) I must say as much as I love Klipsch, I really am not impressed with the subs. Admittedly, I haven't done any proper EQ with them with minidsp but I feel they really lack a punch. My room is small, so I'm considering SVS, I'd love the PB16 but it would be too big for my room, so maybe the PB2000 x2. What speakers are you running?
@@BuildMontage For the average listener the copper style subwoofers are great and I enjoy them for what they are.
Current setup is:
Klipsch RF-7 II Front left/Right
Klipsch RC-64 III Center
Klipsch RS-52 IV for both back Rear Surrounds and Side Surrounds
Klipsch KPT-1802-HLS for subwoofer.
Had a stereo integrity HT 18 in custom enclosure before I was able to get a killer deal on klipsch's pro cinema subwoofers which are made for auditoriums haha.
OK.. yeah, so... I'm more than just a BIT jealous... RF7s are like my dream speaker, I even photoshopped them in one of my videos :) The PRO-CINEMA lineup is crazy, I've seen those in a few official Klipsch videos.. Great score!! My setup is all I could fit in my small room at the time, and I'm actually going to go in-walls to further maximise the space and create a really nice stealthy room. But agree the Klipsch subs need replacing.. in fact, I'm "repurposing" my sound stage and the two subs to another media room upstairs :) Would you think the SVS PB-3000s will work well with a Klipsch?
@@BuildMontage I think it it's a real misconception that any brand sub works good with a certain brans if speaker. I bought 2 15" monitor audio gold subs to go with my monitor audio speakers and while the speakers are amazing the subs were not up to par either. I have 2x svs sb-4000 now and am blown away. Literally twice as powerful each with no distortion and better frequency response.
2 svs 3000 subs would go great with any speakers. Svs have deals with moat stores where when you buy 2 you get 15% off. I know this is the case at melbourne hifi where I bought mine. You should consider them for sure.

I just found your channel and love it. Great job on explaining the needs/wants in building a home theater. I am slowly rebuilding my surround system and will be tuning in to your channel for more great videos. I purchased the Denon AVR-S750H and I'm starting to buy some Klipsh speakers. My first Klipsh purchase is the Klipsh Ref R-34C (Center Speaker). Soon to come- Klipsh R-625FA, R-100SW, RP-502S. Planning for a 5.1.2 Atmos theater. Keep up the good work! Thanks.

I’m very jealous of those who are able to do this. I’m asking friends and family for vouchers for my birthday just so I can get somewhere close to buying a basic sound bar!

Great advice all around. I built my home theater in 2013 and can relate exactly to your point on seating. Those in front need to recline which normally they want to do any, but yes that was a miss!
Great advice. All excellent points. I personally feel like #10 "Speaker Choice" should be moved up to your #2 spot and then continue with #3 as "Speaker Points". At the end of the day, it is all about personal audio and aesthetic preference, but starting with your speaker choice (brand) is absolutely important because the rest of the planning will need to work around your system requirement and preferences. For my own personal system, I went with the B&W 700 Series in satin white.
:) I didn't really pick an order of importance, it just sorta flowed organically but yes, I've got another video similar to this coming soon after my rebuild :)

Having owned RF280F's (the 5.1 package), and listened to Klipsch "in wall" speakers i can say you wont be sorry you didn't pick the in-wall ones. They sounded absolutely horrible! I really loved the 280F's, great sound, great punch, so when i heard the in-wall ones that i wanted to get i was sort of shocked. Ended up getting MK's instead.
I ended up replacing everything in this room with a 7.3.6 Krix system. Check my channel u will see some newer videos.

Adding a second sub and tuning it in with another sub is the hardest thing to integrate into your speaker system.
