I just got the L850, I think they are the same internally. I have experimented with printing options and if you want the most realistic colors you need Lightroom and use the profile for the paper you print on (it will be installed from the CD included and Lightroom will find it), also dissable the "color management" from the printer setup window. This way you printed pictures will look as close as possible to the on on your PC screen, the reds benefit the most of it. Out of the box the colors are too "pumped" IMO.

The printers are nearly the same internally. You are exactly right when it comes to managing print color and paper.

Were you able to connect the printer to a 110V outlet with a simple adapter?
Mine came with the standard United States plug and did not need any adapter. However this may differ depending on what country it is purchased in.
