Mr. Gilbert is in his own level of excellence. Paul can play so many different versions of music melodies which so many great other guitar players cannot emulate. It took me a while to appreciate everything Paul can do and understand everything he is doing all at the same time. He is a definite a perfectionist in his own right and once you understand everything he is doing all the time, it just sets him so far above so many great guitar greats out there. He is definitely on his own level and what is one of the best things about Paul is that he is so down to earth, approachable, and easy to speak with. There is no attitude that comes across that says "I'm great and you suck and since you are not on my level, I don't have time for you." He really is just a great human being and person. I really do appreciate him as a person, his total attitude, and approach to teaching his skills as he is very open to show anything he knows to show anyone how to do and help anyone how to do what he does and how he does it. All in all he is just a great musician with a great attitude with a love for music and an approachable person to connect with for letting anyone who is seriously interested in what he is doing. He will take the time to explain how and what he does. He is really a special person and approachable. Definitely not like a lot of the guitar greats our there who have attitudes larger than the room the occupy. Thank you Paul for all you do and give back to all us novices who strive to hopefully one day be a 1/4 as good as you are. Much appreciated my man!!

A few years ago in Italy I was fortunate to have a dinner with Paul Gilbert and he told us he used to work with Kevin Elson back in the beginning of Mr.Big, who had worked with Lynyrd Skynyrd too.He said that sometimes he tried to play slide on some songs and KE used to joke at him saying that since he had already worked with some of the best slide players (Lynyrd Skynyrd) his slide playing was basically not that good.Well, in these last years he’s become sooo good at it that I think now he could play with Lynyrd Skynyrd without any problem!!

      Exactly.
I've gone down the rabbit hole and even put a 07 set (the Rev Billy Gibbons one) on one guitar - just for giggles. Sounds GREAT and plays absolutely like a dream....
That 07 is still absolutely fine, even after playing bends of 3 steps up for many months now.
Just don't dig in as much.
Play according to what your fingers feel and your ears tell you...

@@claudevieaul1465 yep, I've had one set up with Zippy Slinkys since they came out with them and love it, but only for lead. Playing with 7s for rhythm still doesn't feel great for me especially for barre chords, and fretting the low E with the thumb is really hard not to pull sharp.

Love Paul Gilbert. One of my early influences, for sure. As for AMS... I'm a life long friend of Bill K (will not post last name, for privacy etc.), but... he's your Brother in Law. : ) He got me a beautiful surf green strat (70's style) from you guys YEARS ago, at a great price, as an "all in the family deal", and i appreciate it greatly Bill, and AMS. Also, I'm friends with Dave Koltai (Was the most recent owner of Supro prior to being bought by Danelectro), and my son worked at Supro for many years. So I guess the bottom line is, when you've been at it as long as i have, everyone starts to become family. LOL. Great video, keep them coming!! Guest spots aint just for Andertons!! (and next time i pass you guys on the road in Jersey, I'll stop in) - all the best.

A lot of guitar players look at players like Paul Gilbert and find themselves envious of their ability to do one thing or another, while I'm just envious of their long fingered hands. I'm 5'8" with sausage fingers, I play Strats 80% of the time and for whatever reason, I favor fatter necks. This guy can make chords that take up the 1 to the 12th fret like I play an open G, I'm lucky if I can span 5 of them.

Sucks when you have a living legend giving all these interviews to people who don’t even deserve to sit there and talk to him, just because they sell product. Let us true fans do it. Ridiculous. At least it’s Paul Gilbert and I can listen to him talk and play all day long, even if he’s answering questions he’s answered 6 million times before.

The guitar is becoming a leftover instrument form an old generation. It will soon be looked at the same way the harmonica is. It had a good run, made a lot of people rich and famous that normally wouldn't have gotten a second look. But it's time to step a side. It's like that South Park episode, where playing the video is cooler than the actual instrument

Paul will explain what he’s doing on guitar and these guys go “sure” “yeah” “okay” “right”, just feels like they’re saying whatever for Paul to finish what he’s explaining.
