You're quite fortunate that you didn't let it sit. I made cheese and what you ended up doing was mixing the milk with a coagulant that created the curding process. fortunately you didn't let it sit for long. If you did your loop would have turned into a giant thing of cheese; which is a pain to clean. Also if I recall correctly the basic properties of milk cause it to stick to metal surfaces and will persist to where you have to devote some major elbow grease to get rid of it(this is why companies use really strong chemicals like caustic and nitric acid).

10:10 You want to use just plain water, and add a bit of dawn dishwasher detergent. Put your parts in there, tubing, etc and move them.
Instead of a toothbrush, use an electronics cleaning brush, the strands are thinner and brush them under the water as Jay did.
After that rinse them under running water, but shake them or use canned air to blow any excess water quickly to avoid stains, or residue, or calcium build up, then put them on shop towels to let them dry fully. If you have a small fan to blow air over them on the towels it would be better.

Power sprayer on the metals (15 degree?) followed by alcohol. Alcohol is fine on plastic as long as it's not prolonged exposure. As Jay did, alcohol on anything water hit. As long as it's dry afterwards it's fine. DON'T use alcohol on o-rings. It will dry them out too much. You nailed it.
Waiting an extra day for everything to dry is always a good idea. It'll never look brand new again but cars don't either when exposed to the elements. You either see scratches or you're taking off material.
Main thing is avoiding oxidation on the metals as that drastically reduces cooling ability. And who cares about the plastic. If it gets brittle and starts breaking buy a new one.

I've had great luck with distilled white (clear) vinegar. I put it in about 5 parts distilled water to 1 part vinegar and run the loop for several hours. Then I run several gallons of distilled water, both directions, through the loop under pressure to get all the loose gunk out (I use a hand water pump, the kind used to transfer gas between containers). I keep cycling until I see no more gunk. Works a charm. Never had to deal with curdled milk though...

When putting in multiple screws, remember the saying, "Start them all before you tighten any." I learned this with a fairing that had 19 screws. If you didn't leave them all partially loose to start, the thin fiberglass fairing would move enough that you'd never get the last couple of screws in without going back and loosening the others anyway.

I did this a few days ago to an acrylic distribution plate. I couldn't for the life of me get some of the more caked on stuff off the plate, so I resorted to using isopropyl alcohol. Not only did it not etch the acrylic, it seems to have gotten rid of any clouding that I would have expected to naturally occur. I was, needless to say, pleasantly surprised.
It's worth noting that I applied the alcohol to a shop towel and then used that to scrub off the residue, so it may be that I simply just didn't have enough alcohol contact for enough time to really damage the acrylic, or it may be that the scrubbing action just left a nice even surface rather than allowing the plastic to "melt" naturally as it did here.

I learned two lessons: thoroughly flush new blocks and tubing and always keep flex tubing and fittings around for diagnosing where in the loop issues might occur. I was able to eliminate the gpu block and the pump itself before moving to the cpu without a total tear down but connecting soft tubing between the parts. Just thought id share that, might save people time.

I'm 8 minutes into this vid and want to add some things. The chocolate milk and alcohol form a precipitate but mixing different types of collant can do similar things. Don't use acetone to clean anyhting! Acetone causes enrironmental stress cracking and can cause plastic parts, espesially plexyglass (Acrylic) to crack or shater. that's what the discolouration on the CPU block is. When putting it back together you can put a thin layer of silicone grease on the o-rings and seals to help them seal better, don't use kerosene or WD-40 as it will cause the rubber to swell or perish.

Jay, you can use an ultrasonic parts cleaner to clean the spots that are very difficult to reach. Just be sure to put a plastic basket inside the metal basket to avoid and scratching where the pars contact the basket. Ones with a heater work best but inspect your parts after 20-30 minutes especially around the heat pipes/fins contact points and any solder joints. Be sure to check the largest parts measurements to make sure you get one large enough so the part will lay flat.

jay that little metal water block would be effectively cleaned with a jewelry cleaner. using that electromagnetic vibration thingy would clean those fins extremely well. me personally i know a master jeweler and can just ask him if i need to but for anyone else all you gotta do is just go in and ask them to hit it with the jewelry cleaner most wont have a problem at all. the high pressure steaming, cleaning solution and the electromagnetic cleaning thingy would do an amazing job cleaning those metal blocks with those micro channels

I'd honestly just throw it out after something like this tbh, since it's just a standard 240 or 280 rad, nothing ridiculously huge or expensive. All the tiny channels are gonna be fcked. One might be able to get some of it out with compressed air or high(-ish) pressure water but even then i still wouldn't fully trust it afterwards

You need to get some powdered brewery wash (PBW) to clean up difficult messes like this. Safe on plastics, rubber, metals, etc. and is crazy effective (basically oxiclean)

  • @BeatsbyVegas

You should buy some 3m novec and play around with cooling the die directly with the liquid. No copper cold plate connected to micro fins connected to a water block. Just liquid on silicon. Would love to see that stuff!

  • @GH05T18
    @GH05T18 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@JayzTwoCents i just use glass cleaner and that is aggressive enough to break down the gunk but harmless enough to not damage the metal. same on plastics. and you get a beautiful shine and clarity.

Ultrasound bath works wonders without the need for chemicals. Cleaned a completely clogged up fountain pen with it. Just don't plunge the entire card with it, it may destroy electronics... just plunge the purely mechanical parts.

Can you make a video about what you think a PC building shop should look like/ what items are required/recommended?

For the copper block one of those cheap ultrassonic cleaners with dH2O + bit of neutral detergent could be handy when there are more sticky pieces of dirt.

I'm lucky in the fact I'm always upgrading parts so I'm constantly needing to drain and clean my loop multiple times a year,, but if you have good fluid I typically reccomend changing fluids yearly. Can you go longer? With appropriate fluid sure but better safe than sorry. Distilled water with a biocide ftw! It's cheap and super effective!

You should have used acetone for the metal (NOT FOR THE PLASTIC), as the problem for you 'blend' is that you mixed polarized and non-polarized fluids. Acetone works on both. That is also why sulfo or soap will release the tension in the water contained in the coco.

You can use a torch to flame kiss the surface of the etched acrylic to get some/most of it back to clear again. Obviously be careful not to melt or deform anything, and avoid fit edges where an o-ring sits. Butane torch just barely touching the surface should melt and resettle the outer layer just right so its see-through again.

This is why you don't pour milk into booze, but it's okay to add booze to milk. The moment pure alcohol hits milk it separates the casein (protein) because the pH is lower than 4.6. So what you're looking at are chunks of pure protein floating in the alcohol. I learned this by watching a video on how protein powders are made. :)
