- Bruce Meyers, the inventor of the Meyers Manx, the original beach buggy based on the VW Beetle passed away this week at he age of 94. A few years ago we caught up with him at the Quail where his original car, known as Big Red had won the Spirit of the Quail award. We spoke to him about the car and it's legacy.

Not the content I expected... but the content I needed. Can't claim to have heard of him before clicking this video but thoroughly enjoyed listening to his positivity and it's put a huge smile on my face. RIP Bruce.

RIP BRUCE l m glad to say even l remember building one in 3 days with my buddies ,we were lucky to find a running chassis already shortened and rolling buggy body n all ready to be mated up . WHAT A BLAST TO CRUSE AROUND TOWN IN ,EVERYBODY SMILES WHEN THEY SEE ONE :)

Driving is supposed to be fun - cars are supposed to be fun - and they really don't come much more fun than a proper beach buggy in sparkly day-glo paint
I would never part with mine. This guy has given everyone a gift, even though he probably wanted to monetise it, the car will always represent something great, bigger than money. You’re almost just buying fun.
