    WoW. what a colour! z that’s crazy. it must be a reaction to a specific mineral or something!
    Simply gorgeous views. thanks again.

    Love the views of Long's from the trail that time of day. I may have to make that one of my early morning photo spots when we're out there in September. Thanks for getting me through the doldrums waiting for the next trip to RMNP!

    Agreed, hope fish and life didn’t get messed up with whatever truly caused the blue water

    Love seeing your dad out exploring with you. I haven't been up to Lake Haiyaha since the slide. I was there the week before. Crazy milky green color now, still beautiful. I never knew Haiyaha meant rock.

    The appearance of glacial milk in Lake Haiyaha now would presumably be related to the Chaos Canyon rockslide.

    • @billpelzmann1030
      @billpelzmann1030 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I thought. I saw an article (somewhere) recently that confirms the cause and the connection to the rockslide.

    Coincidentally, I went up there yesterday. That little unnamed pond about halfway between Haiyaha and the junction with the Mills L/Loch trail was the same color. The water looked a lot like it did after the rainstorm in September 2015. Not sure, but I think the green color may be because of the concentration of minerals in the water, rather than silt. Insane number of people between Dream and Bear. At one point, there were about forty people walking single file.

    So glad you did this one! I'm pretty sure we are going to do this hike next month. Is it possible to get to Hallett Peak from Haiyaha, or is it just too gnarly?

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a route up the east ridge from the Lake Haiyaha Trail. When you are coming around the east side of Hallett and it tops out. Just before you start heading down to Haiyaha is where you split off and start bushwacking up the ridge. Looks like a fun little low class 3 scramble until you hit that narrow colouir full of loose rock that leads up to just behind where that big part of Hallett juts out. Then once you are on that top flat part you take it on up to the summit. I wanted to get this last year but never made it up to Bear Lake early enough. But its going down this year! I actually want to try it in the next few weeks. I just want to make sure all the snow is clear from that couloir first.

      Thanks Chris! Im still using the Gopro Hero 9. I love that little camera. Its small and it can take a beating! I dropped it down the rocks on this hike then accidentally stepped on part of it. Didnt even leave a scratch.

    These lakes are fed by Glaciers, the glacier water gives them that emerald blue color. The Glaciers are all drying up.

      Lake Haiyaha changed colors from a clear blue to milky and bright green. Park experts say the color change is a direct result of a landslide in the park that happened above the lake.

    Was it the big rockslide up canyon that caused it somehow?

    That was real interesting Nick! The water color reminded me of milk glass in a way.. Was that Hallet Peak in the background when you were at the lake? Makes me curious to know why also!

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that was Hallett on the right side of lake and Otis Peak to the left. I should have probably mentioned that in the vid. I think the rockslide ground some of those glacial rocks to powder and it is washing down into the water. I guess thats why other alpine lakes have that light blue coloring too. Of course I dont really know.. this is what another hiker told me on the trail.
