This is a great classic summit hike for normal folks like me. I did it for the first time 10 years ago, and will never forget it.

Hiked this in 1983 with 3 young children, 12, 10, and 7. Made it all the way to the summit of Hallett Peak.

Good narration, thank you... we used to slide down Andrews glacier on raincoats.

Just did this hike today. I think it’s officially my favorite from around the Bear Lake area

I can't wait to finally make this hike. Next time for sure! Already missing that place so dearly and was just in RMNP 3 weeks ago. Great video brother!

My son (10) and myself (62) hike failed this one about a week before your date posted. We got about a 1/2 mile past the Dream Lake overlook before the altitude started to get to him. This year we will be there in October, and if it isn't snow covered already we will tear into it. Thanks for posting, these videos always inspire me.

Thanks for all the great videos Nick! My buddies and I will be out there in a few weeks to relaunch our annual trip. Last time we were out was 2019, thank you pandemic. We have Sky Pond and Chasm lined up for our two big hikes. Maybe we’ll see you out on the trail some day. Peace!

Im enjoying watching your videos, this hike in particular. I have a friend, you met him last year I believe on a trail, Kenny Wyss, he will be making this very same hike Sunday 6-25-23. He always tells me the videos never do justice to the views of Estes Park. He keeps trying to get me to go. I can't wait to see his videos, and your next adventure. Thank you for sharing your adventures!

Thank you! Was that Kenny from Sheepdogprepardeness? Probably spelled that wrong.. but that was great running into him. I think I was coming down from Otis Peak that day. I was chatting with him the other day in the comments of my Trail Ridge Road vid I believe. I was giving him some tips because there is still a lot of snow up on Flattop and Hallett. I hope he can get the summits!

Brings back memories of from 1978 or 79 when I did this with a friend. I do recall vaguely going up to Hallett directly and coming down Flattop to Bear Lake. I can't recall much after doing this a few weeks after Longs and Chasm Lake, but this video reminds me of what totally beautiful hike this is. Maybe the weather was changing fast that day. Things have changed along the trail for sure.
You make the best Colorado hike videos and I love the commentary. Thanks!

Thank you! I tried going up Hallett directly earlier that year and I could not make it up Chaos Couloir. Its pretty crazy in there! If you did that.. wow. Thats quite an accomplishment!

Thanks for taking us on another beautiful hike. The view from the Emerald Lake overlook has long been a favorite. The first time we ever saw Emerald Lake was from this point. I also took note of Bierstadt Lake behind your mom as she picked raspberries. Again, thanks for sharing.

I’ve planned a 3 day trip out to Estes park. I plan one day of acclimatization hiking then the following two will be summit attempts. Thanks for supplying the reference material for me to share!

When you were on Hallett Peak, I was on Copeland Mountain, and went through similar apprehension with the clouds. Fortunately I only got hit with a few drops.

Congratulations on the Copeland Summit! That is a hard hike. I was looking at that monster yesterday. We did Tanima Peak via the east ridge.

@@nicksangetta8874 Sweet! You get some footage?
Yeah, I did the Meeker > Longs > Pagoda trip last Tuesday and figured Copeland would be a piece of cake, and went for it on Thursday. Boy did I underestimate that peak! The bushwhacking on the first half mile past Ouzel is annoying, then the never ending false steep summits about destroyed me.

Is this a good hike for April?

    • @nicksangetta8874
      @nicksangetta8874  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

There will probably still be snow up there, it would be a tough hike. Best case scenario is that the trail is beaten down and you could get through wearing only microspikes.

    • @shanerls

Thanks for the quick response. I will be visiting Colorado in the end of April. Do you have any suggestions for a good, challenging hike that may have less snow. @@nicksangetta8874
