Hello everyone, in today's video we will be discussing the very recent disappearance of Lucas Macaj (23) who went missing in Rocky Mountain National Park while hiking up Longs Peak (the highest mountain in Colorado) He was last heard from on May 12. 2024 when he sent a text to a friend around 1pm.
Lucas is 5'9" tall and roughly 155lbs with brown hair and green eyes.
He was last thought to be wearing a dark jacket, dark gloves and brown or tan pants.

Nothing as grand as your national parks across the pond but I’m going hiking and cycling in Scotland this summer. Huge group of us so we can look after each other. Your stories of missing people are just so heartbreaking though.

His body was found yesterday the 17th or 16th. A fall. Most common of all… live an hour away. Our family is always SO sad to hear of these unnecessary tragedies. Still winter in the mountains, not prepared for hiking, hiking alone. It always breaks our heart.

I have hiked this area many times and have taken the Key Hole trail on several occasions. This is a very difficult hike. I served on the Rocky Moutain Search and Rescue Team at the beginning of my career and, unfortunately, we would have to rescue many people each year who thought they had what it takes to submit this peak. It is always a good idea to hike with at least one other person when conducting this type of difficult terrain hike. I always tell people to have a GPS rescue device of some kind because you never know what might happen and how incapacitated you might be and having a GPS emergency locator with you increases your chance of rescue exponentially. With this, we the rescuers have to make assumptions and guesses about your location and possible route of travel. Search canines are not effective in this kind of rock terrain and so we rely on other tracking methods and air searches to cover most of the distance. Please, if you are going to attempt this kind of extreme hike, please do so with another experienced hiker and carry a emergency GPS locator. I hope they find Lucas. I'm praying for him, his friends and his family.
You can’t always find someone who is willing and ready to take on these sort of adventures with you. But you can ALWAYS make sure to have a satellite messenger with you, or, a Personal Locator Beacon, which doesn’t require any subscription fees.

I really hope that Lucas will be able to be found and be reunited with his family, he is so young and has his whole life ahead of him. It's so incredibly sad what happened to Thomas Robinson I've been praying for him and his family that he would be found so hearing this is so heartbreaking and it brought me to tears. I've been to Colorado Springs and the forest there has huge bears. Pray they find him, this is scary. Please if you go hiking and happen to get lost, just stay in place and try to start a fire and build some type of shelter. Pray they find him 🙏❤️

Theres a man named Travis Coleman that dissapeared around the mountains surrounding (saddle rock )Wenatchee wa. Last year.. his mother Denise is still asking for help looking for him.

I went to boot camp and MCT with this guy, dude was a blessing to have in our platoon. I haven’t heard of him since MCT, but while I was with him. Overall a cool dude. That was 5 years ago

Why personal beacons aren’t carried by all hikers.. prayers for his safety
I hope he is found alive but this hike should have never have been attempted. There is a lot of snow up there and the forecast all week was for more snow. Plus this was a solo hike and it sounds like he didn’t have a gps satellite communication device. Longs is the deadliest 14er in Colorado.

Maybe there should be a law to have a GPS locator for people that hike in dangerous areas. I know it wouldn't help in all cases, but it would definitely help.

@@CM-sm6rs That's a very ignorant statement to make. Freedom is inherintly dangerous, but potentially sacrificing your freedom for some "percieved" safety is much more harmful. Laws don't make people safe, education and freedom of access make people safe.

It's a bit early to do Longs Peak. I mean, we still have feet of snow at 7k feet here in Utah. Is there any information on if he had crampons and rope? If not I'm afraid he might have fallen on the way down. Also, a lot of rock falls are occurring this time of year as the snow melts. Best case scenario is he lost the route due to conditions, once you get past the trail there are only small markers indicating the approach. easily missed when snow and ice obscure, and he is lost attempting to descend off trail, hopefully hunkered down.

Don’t live your life in fear. Just prepare well, and bring a Personal Locator Beacon! You can get SOS devices that do not require any subscription fees. The ones that do require fees allow you to text message when your phone doesn’t have service. But you don’t need that! All you need is a distress button that notifies responders of your location, and that you are in desperate need of assistance. I agree with you. There is more out there than we have been told about! But the majority of those who go missing in the great outdoors, weren’t carrying Personal Locator Beacons.
Tons of trails on ALL Trails. You don’t have to climb a mountain.. and I live an hour away. That’s actually one of the most difficult of the 14’ers.

Living in one of the altitude countries of the world, you would think that our state parks would hand out to hikers those locator beacons before people went out n hikes in case they get lost!. After the hikes you just hand them back in. Smdh

You would think by now, people would be a little more responsible for their own lives. Not all SOS devices require a subscription fee. And they can be obtained for the same cost as a pair of hiking boots. I’d rather forget my boots than forgot my Personal Locator.

I hope and pray this young man is found safe and sound. Just know, tomorrow is not promised to us. Once we die, there are no second chances. It’s either heaven or hell for eternity. Our ticket to salvation and eternal life in heaven is believing and trusting and relying on Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior. Confess him with your mouth and repent of your sins. Understand and believe that Jesus died on the cross to shed his precious, living blood to atone for the sins of humanity. he died on the cross and rose three days later, and is living in heaven, preparing a place of paradise for those who follow him. please don’t think you have to be perfect to be a Christian. This isn’t true. We’re all imperfect. No one is perfect, but Jesus Christ. We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. This is why we need a savior. Jesus is the only way the truth and the life. you can talk to him directly through prayer. Just close your eyes and speak to him as you’re speaking to a friend with honor and reverence. signs and wonders are showing that we are very likely in the end days, so please except Jesus into your heart immediately. Can searchers bring like a small moveable cell tower to see if they get a ping from his phone? If not let’s build that that a helicopter could take up on a search in the future
From what I understand there are what's called " cell-site simulators" that are small enough to fit in a cars, some even on the vest of someone.. that basically fool Cell phones into connecting to them instead of a tower.. they are mainly used in police investigations.. but I haven't heard them ever being used in SAR. plus the person would have to be using the cell phone and of course the phone would need to be operating.. in many of these missing hiker cases, people's phones die, are lost, broken etc.. but I'm sure technology will keep evolving offering more technical help to the SAR Teams. And hey there might be equipment I'm not familiar with. I have much to learn!
I do know a lot of the equipment such as these high tech drone teams, and the mentioned aircraft can run over 10k a day for use.. which is always an issue because the departments only have a certain amount of money. That's why we're always looking for volunteers, donations etc. I just hope and pray this young man is found soon🙏thank you for watching and your feedback!
@@bawattsyl I’d love to donate to something like this seems like finding people in the 1st day or two is so critical. I mean would be nice if everyone had a satellite device and in the future I’m sure we all will but for now seems like being able to ping to a cell phone could be helpful.
@@davidg9120 yes, sat com devices are great and thankfully becoming more affordable. I carry mine with me everywhere and always try and recommend people to carry one as well. And yes you're very right, the first 48 hours are critical in any search. But we've seen people rescued up to a month after going missing..I pray this young man is either trying to find some way out or waiting for help🙏 I pray he is found soon🙏 Thank you for your thoughts!
