The captions saying why cells are small: Our cells are small because we want to maximize the surface on the outside. And the reason why, is that we have to get nutrients into the cell, oxygen. We have to get waste products out, like carbon dioxide. And so if we can make ourselves really small then we have a large surface area. And also that oxygen then doesn’t have to defuse so far to get into the cell or carbon dioxide diffuse so far to get out.they can’t be too small or else nothing could fit inside it either
I'm happy to hear that the videos have been helpful. I would encourage you to visit my website and fill out the translation form. We have had trouble sending translations to hotmail addresses and so you may have to grab a gmail account. Sorry about that.
Thank you! My science teacher showed me this video at school and I still didn't understand it so I watched it at home to help me study for a last minute test! Thank Again!
When the comments section is all about people who watch this for help in their homework and all you get is praise, then you are the Pride of the people.
Very nice video, just one comment: it is not that the Inuits wanto to maximize their body volume or the Massai their body surface, it is natural selection process that selected those phenotypes
It was helpful, but I think some people might find it offensive how you said "If you're smart, you should be thinking..." if they weren't thinking that.
i watched this and a few other thigs and i think my test will go quite well ive been doing reasearch all week but its always better to hear someone talking about it than just reading it
This kinda works like transistors in a CPU? like 12nm or less is shorter distance for electrons to go through a smaller area... correct me if I'm wrong
@TiaKhosla lol I can't exactly remember bc I commented this 5 years ago but basically the title of the video is "why are cells small" and this is the part where he says "cells are small because..."
@TiaKhosla I think it's ok~ I am in my 3rd year now of Uni yep :) in elementary education but I'm actually considering being a science teacher so it's funny I am brought back to this video ✌️😌
Your explanation takes the unwarranted assumption that there can't be larger cells with the same surface area ration to a much smaller version of the cell.
That's because it's not an unwarranted assumption but a property of 3-D space. As an object's size increases, its volume grows much faster than its surface area, meaning the surface area to volume ratio decreases rapidly. It's called the square-cube law actually. Here's a good video on it:th-cam.com/video/qoM17ikreio/w-d-xo.html
Ive been wondering if it was possible to create gigantic cell in a laboratory by meddling with the cell's genes so that we could better see what's going on there.
th-cam.com/video/wuXSEOKNxN8/w-d-xo.htmlm55s I think you mean the opposite thing. You mean big surface area and small volume, right? You might want to correct that. Anyways a helpful video, as usual!
Yow this video help me learn more things in science cause my grades in science are so small its like my grade in science is very very low grades that's why I watch videos that is so im portant in my school #this is the most awesome video
Yeah, it's a rule that only works for Allen. Allen made up a file for himself. Idiots who wanted to sound smart in front of other idiots just copied it and went along.
Same. Most of his videos are nonsense. I've already graduated with two/three degrees and am going back to watch some videos and yeah it's like AI but no I, just entertainment.
went from learning why cells are small to how if you live farther from the equator the more spherical you'll look
ADD instructors 😂
POV: You’re in high school and your biology teacher is making you watch this for homework.

I liked the demonstration in the beginning which helped tie the concept neatly in my brain. Great stuff, thanks!

Bozeman Science yes
here i am, december of 2018 and i'm watching this video because of my teacher
So interesting! Althought I already knew about it, you helped learn some new facts and גevelop a different perspective on this process.
Thank you! My science teacher showed me this video at school and I still didn't understand it so I watched it at home to help me study for a last minute test! Thank Again!
You the homie, Mr. Anderson

this helped me so much! your display is very helpful in understanding why it's important cells are small. thank you!!
Had to watch this for a class. Thank you, you explained things very well.
Very nice video, just one comment: it is not that the Inuits wanto to maximize their body volume or the Massai their body surface, it is natural selection process that selected those phenotypes
I’m sent here for a science assessment and I still don’t understand he didn’t answer the questions I have... can anyone help!?
cells are small because if they're to big they can't get all the things they need and it's to hard to maintain
This isn't mine craft mods
really????!!!
This actually helped a lot thanks mat 🤙🏻
It was helpful, but I think some people might find it offensive how you said "If you're smart, you should be thinking..." if they weren't thinking that.

i was offened !1!!1!!1!!1!1!1!1!1!1!
A YEET AND A YAP IS A YIPPITY SNAP!
i watched this and a few other thigs and i think my test will go quite well ive been doing reasearch all week but its always better to hear someone talking about it than just reading it
so did you do well on the test??
That was really helpful 😊
This kinda works like transistors in a CPU? like 12nm or less is shorter distance for electrons to go through a smaller area... correct me if I'm wrong
great demo!!!
This actually helped answer a question. It was simple and to the point. He should make his other videos more simple and to the point.

@TiaKhosla lol I can't exactly remember bc I commented this 5 years ago but basically the title of the video is "why are cells small" and this is the part where he says "cells are small because..."
@TiaKhosla haha it was fun actually, took me back to high school bio class 😂
@TiaKhosla I think it's ok~ I am in my 3rd year now of Uni yep :) in elementary education but I'm actually considering being a science teacher so it's funny I am brought back to this video ✌️😌
@TiaKhosla aw haha thank u ~ University of Florida! 🐊

Loved the demonstration way♥️

5:16 WELP I GUESS IM NOT SMART :(
lol sameee
@MrZoider You are correct, but that is a bit illogical because "shrink rays" don't exist
Why are cells small? 4:45.
anyone has a link to a proof through geometry on this?
Great explanation!
that's a cool way to compare volumes
For easier understanding turn on the captions
great video
Thank you so much for this
My class needed this for our demonstrations in class
*just casually has a beaker full of bark*
Classy Sir.
Very interesting.
Your videos rock!
They're minerals
Thank you❤️❤️❤️
Ive been wondering if it was possible to create gigantic cell in a laboratory by meddling with the cell's genes so that we could better see what's going on there.
I’ve been watching these videos and damn yall must be adults by now😭😭, a whole generational video
If you don't want to watch the whole thing because your teacher made you, than skip to this part 4:45
well explained
Hello Bellarmine AP Biology students!
Thank you got it 😊
Awesome!
whats 'the' reason, then?
I don’t wanna do this assignment

awesome!!
thank you

not me
At 5:20, it should be "infinitesimally" small and not "infinitely" small
Nice. ...
Had to watch this for school.
How unfortunate.
i was sent here by my biology class.....
same
مافهمت شي
He shows us one reason for cells to be small (not "the" reason)
anybody here from Mr. Lyons? hello from Nease!
What period do you have him? I have him third
John 14:21
Yo Is anyone here from Ms. Kelly's bio class?
Yow this video help me learn more things in science cause my grades in science are so small its like my grade in science is very very low grades that's why I watch videos that is so im portant in my school #this is the most awesome video
so everyone’s teacher had them watch this ?
did you see the troll face at 1:31
this is ray allen's rule? the basketball player?
Yeah, it's a rule that only works for Allen. Allen made up a file for himself.

Get to the point…
I was just saying the same. This is sooo slow...get to the point. He must teach special ed. biology.
