    The captions saying why cells are small:
    Our cells are small because we want to maximize the surface on the outside. And the reason why, is that we have to get nutrients into the cell, oxygen. We have to get waste products out, like carbon dioxide. And so if we can make ourselves really small then we have a large surface area. And also that oxygen then doesn’t have to defuse so far to get into the cell or carbon dioxide diffuse so far to get out.they can’t be too small or else nothing could fit inside it either

    Very nice video, just one comment: it is not that the Inuits wanto to maximize their body volume or the Massai their body surface, it is natural selection process that selected those phenotypes

    Your explanation takes the unwarranted assumption that there can't be larger cells with the same surface area ration to a much smaller version of the cell.

    • @feynstein1004
      @feynstein1004 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because it's not an unwarranted assumption but a property of 3-D space. As an object's size increases, its volume grows much faster than its surface area, meaning the surface area to volume ratio decreases rapidly. It's called the square-cube law actually. Here's a good video on it:th-cam.com/video/qoM17ikreio/w-d-xo.html
