A beast in a corset. Scary, icy and festive. Liberated but extremely precise. It cleans you and fills you at the same moment. This is the best description of Les Noces I've ever heard. Yay! Tamara Stefanovich.

I had the privilege of singing this as a chorister for the Michael Clark Company's production a number of years ago at The Barbican. When we started rehearsing, the music and the challenge of singing in Russian was certainly 'beastly'! For me, the only way to perform this piece was to learn the music off by heart. Performing this work was the most incredible musical experience of my life. It is incredibly moving to perform such a powerful, disturbing and elemental work. Once it gets under your skin, it will never leave you!

Thanks for a very informative post on one of the most important works to me in all the repertoire. I had fantasized for a long time to have the ending of the piece as the recessional at my wedding, instead of more traditional fare. Unfortunately it didn't happen... I still get very emotional at the end.
