They were early on but once the keyboardist left and drummer they sounded different and not as good, they got away from the original sound. Even Rolands voice then sounds off.
Everyone was lip syncing around this time too. If you watch any of the old NKOTB or any of the big groups from around this time they almost never actually sang live.
Before 1994 everyone had to really sing, because if you didn't sing well live, you wouldn't be successful! I say until 1994 because it was around that time that voice correction programs were developed, one of the most famous being Autotune and Melodyne. With that, nowadays nobody almost sings for real anymore.
There is playback, the keyboard player actually misses his intro and doesn't start "playing" the piano part until a few seconds in. Roland's guitar part around 3:02 is also part of the playback, not sure if it was at the start of the song or not. Does bother me, but regardless they sound awesome live.
I wanted this song to be our wedding entrance song with the woman I was head over heels about. I envisioned that she would start down the aisle with the start of this song. I was never sure about what the lyrics were all about…all I knew at the time is that, to me, this was a great song about a guy head over heels about a gal. That was me. Unfortunately I was still in grad school in California and she was off to Spokane Washington for her first job after college. This was before cell phones, texting, e-mail and cheap air fares. The only way to communicate back then were expensive long distant telephone calls and hand written postal letters. Long distance relationships were pretty much impossible back then. We lost touch after she moved. Whenever I hear this song I think of her in a wedding dress walking down the aisle to me smiling her beautiful smile.
don't take it the wrong way, but the fault lies with feminism. she should have married you and stayed with you instead of going away to work for a corporation. imagine the kids and family lost due to her ambition to earn money. it's ok for some women, but not most like today, and so many women are unhappy. 2+2=4
They were along with Mr.Mister were one of the only bands during the 80's that replicated their studio sound in concert. I saw them in Detroit in October of 1985 and they became the standard bearer for live performances.
Tears for Fears and Mr Mister both played live to recorded instrument tracks.. there's a lot going on in those songs, had to either do that or have many more musicians on stage ; )
roland's voice is so fucking good. i am happy he decided to sing live because curt lipsynced everybody wants to rule the world which idk why because curt has a great voice live also.
I'm 26 but I know it deep in my bones that I should have been around in the 80's... what a great era with great music. P.S - I'm a metal head originally, but it doesn't matter. Good music is good music no matter what shape or form :)
I was born in 1967, I can't go back to the 80s but I can go back to those years and remember how happy I was thanks to music... Thanks to young people with powerful voices and great talent for composing we are the LUCKY generation to have enjoyed so much talent.❤️❤️❤️😎😎😎👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👏
My favorite singer when I was a little boy! Then I got into grunge & Layne Staley became my favorite singer! I also love Dolores O’Riordan. I like really unique voices I guess. 🎤
Layne Staley had such an incredible ability with his voice. He could really belt out notes and project with more power than most ppl realize. He could seamlessly go up and down with vocal intensity at will. Really unique talent
Staley is one of my favorites. The harmonics between him and Cantrell (also referred to as vocal melodies, what have you, etc) are one of a kind and once in lifetime.

@@zxwolf6039 maybe not the best but they sound pretty fkn spot on. Even today. Years later. Tears for fears never got the love they deserved i feel. Sad world
My favourite song from Tears For Fears although I love everything they have recorded, this song just hits❤ Roland and Curt have two of the best voices, thank you boys😊x
They were playing this song in 1983, very similar arrangement and vocals - nobody noticed. Two years later it's a giant hit. One of the best bands of the 1980s who never got the props they deserved. Can't believe I listened to this song 40 years ago at my uni radio station, nobody realized how good they were - that changed in '85.
They could just play this song the whole concert 😆-it’s awesome! Jeez was 10 years young. I would almost give anything to go back to how things were in 1985.
Everyone in the comments are rightfully impressed by Orzabal's voice, but how about some props for Curt Smith, whose bass playing is so slick and on-point. It lends a great bottom to the song and he's killing it.
Actually credit should be given to Ian Stanley (keyboard player) as he co-wrote this song and a lot of their hits such as Shout, Everybody Wants To Rule The World etc
La meilleure période de leur carrière. J'aurai tellement aimer être présent à leur concert a cette époque . Leur 2 premiers albums sont pour moi de loin les meilleurs.
This was so superb!!!!! These guys need to be made immortal so that their talent will always be with us 🎉 And Rowlands voice has perfect pitch!!!!! When he hit the “Time flies” note at then end it sounded exactly the same in the official video for this song, which is studio recorded and he nailed it live!!!!! True talent!!!! A++++++

Now, now, now, have you no ambitions?
