- How to Build a Timber Frame Style Pavilion or Gazebo. I wanted this backyard or deck coving pavilion to be designed and built in a timber frame style with some simple joinery. This open wooden structure is the center piece on the patio. Basic carpentry skills are all you need. Pavilion Plans available for download. Gazebo and pavilion designs are plentiful and there's lots of options. Have a look at the three gable timber frame style pavilion or gazebo ideas I came up with using some post and beam techniques. The overall dimensions are approximately 15’ x 14’ and 10’5” tall.

By far one of the best builds I’ve seen on you tube, if not the besy
I have no intention of building this - I am a 40+ woodworker and cabinetmaker, and I simply enjoy watching other's talents for entertainment. What a beautiful design, cleanly and professionally built. An inspiration to anyone. I so enjoy your videos and the clarity with which you present your work. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this .... another great night of entertainment. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gifts and skills and intelligence!!! Trades people should run for political public office - but we would never make it, and if we did we would not survive: we have too much integrity, honesty, practicality, efficiency, knowledge and experience - things politicians are simply not interested in.
Thank you very much for your kind words. You can't know how much I appreciate that. I really wasn't sure how my projects would be received and just a few weeks ago I was thinking that they had no audience. Then last week everything seems to have changed. I am blessed....truly blessed by the encouraging words I have received here. Cheers, Kent
Great what you said, Rudolf. Thank you. Regards from Ukraine.
Great work! Love seeing your videos. Admirer from India.
Is 40+ too old? Im 46 and would do this. If it kills me I guess its my time.
That’s what I called engineering design constructions not just build 👍
My Dear, this is for sure a world champ pavillon of stability. My wife's usual comment : again you built a bunker. Once you build this on a place, you must never replace ist.
His Revit and building and construction skills are remarkable! One of the best I've seen!
Wow! As a homeowner, I could only dream of having something that nice in my backyard. Very professionally done and a pleasure to watch.
Thanks for watching!
The sketchup designs showed along with the video was excellent. What a great build!
thaitichi agreed they really help the understanding of what stuff is if you aren’t a carpenter like me
Just to let you know: I built this Pavilion and its came out PERFECT. Small modification/adjustment will be required but GREAT PLAN. I do not know how to post picture here but wanted to post picture.
I'm really happy with how this pavilion turned out. For more details, plans, and a full writeup see my blog post for this build here: manabouttools.com/constructing-timber-frame-three-gable-backyard-patio-pavilion/ The overall dimensions are approximately 15’ x 14’ and 10’5” tall. How far down the ground did you go with the cement pier foundation for the 6x6 posts? That detail wasn't given. What advantage does this have compared to digging a whole and placing 6x6 post in hole filled with cement
@@planetstupider502 I like to set my pier footings below the frost level. In our area that's 18" deep.
@@MANaboutTOOLS thanks. Would you be kind enough to answer whether you prefer putting the post sitting on top of the pier or would it beneficial to put in a longer post in a dug hole and fill with cement.
@@planetstupider502 Posts set in the ground will rot over time. I prefer to set the posts on piers so they stay dry.
Are you planning on some decorative stucco or rock around the cement piers or leaving them as is as it does not look attractive with all that cement sticking out of the ground?
By 2 minutes in, its already one of the best how to videos I have ever seen. Great video, thank you so very much!
Thank you! I didn't have a lot of opportunity for detailed or closeup camera shots due to time constraints. But I knew I had covered some of the principles in other videos on my channel.
Thats exactly what i wanted to say when I saw the first minutes👍 thanks a lot😊👍
I totally agree
This is definitely the “next level”. I purchased your pergola drawing. We modified it a bit and built it. Neighbors thought we are engineers. Lol. It looked fantastic!!
The best video I've seen of the actual building, great time lapse, editing, slow downs and 3D animations make this a standout video. Well done, hats off to your craftsmanship.
really impress, i did install a pre frabricated standard gazebo. because i was afraid to mess it up. but with all this info you encourage us to do it by ourselves and built a custom design one. thanks a lot
The graphic design in the beginning is so well done. Whoever put that together has used well the training or vocation he or she received. Kudos
The best video I've seen of a building layout. Well done with the piece by piece construction
What an excellent video! You have gave me the confidence to tackle something similar. Thank you for all the attention to QUALITY details.
Beautiful but more importantly inspiring others to do the same, thank you !
Here's an idea I used to build a complicated porch roof by my self . Since I have bad knees I decided to build my roof in the driveway . I mocked up the beams and built it on the ground saving me from having to climb up and down a full set of steps over and over . If your going to do this . Use small short posts and build the roof on the ground saving you from climbing up and down a hundred times . You can simple walk up to the roof check your fits . Adjust the cuts comfortably . After its all prebuilt . You number and disassemble it . Get some help to climb on easy time to re-erect it . I did my roof in one day by my self . The funny thing was all my freinds ask how I was going to get it up there . I lied and said I had a crane coming to lift it up . It took me about 1/2- to 1 hour to rebuilt it permanently . After being a carpenter for 40 I feel dumb I never used this trick all those year but climbed up and down so many times . Maybe my knees would not have gone bad had I used this tecnic .
I really appreciate the amount of work that you have done on this pavilion.
It looks great!
That’s a fantastic looking build.... makes me want to step up my game a bit
This is a great video!
Very detailed and thorough. I especially liked how you refereed back and forth to the Sketch-Up. Thank you for sharing! Better than most out there on TH-cam
Thank you. Well done! Love the design and painting the plywood black was an awesome idea.
that birthmouth on ridge rafter is amazing.
Excellent video - thank you for taking the time to film and explain the details so well
Beautiful work. Looking forward to the day i move out of the city and can build something similar for myself.
Nicely done, I have built trellises and structures like this for many years and did learn something from this. I think most of my customers would prefer rough sawn cedar.
Супер! Классная беседка! Очень красиво!
I like the idea of using brick for string line. Thanks for good tip
Wow, it looks fantastic. This was a great project video
I have never subscribed to a channel so fast! This guys are the best
Now my wife wants me to build this great!
Sorry... I guess?? ;o)
Too good! Great use of visual aids, I'm impressed with your work process illustration. A high five, thumbs up is not good enough.
That's a cracking job! A very flexible design that could easily be altered to make a stunning carport. Thanks for taking the time to make the video and for uploading.
Excellent video.....I watch a load of these types of videos on TH-cam, but this one was one of the best....good job mate.
Uuuuuwiii! I really appreciate this video! Have always wanted a gazebo. Thank you
this is the best presented build video that I have ever seen. Truly talented.
i don't think i have seen a better explained video thanks!
looks great! Thank you for sharing with us.
Fantastic looking job! Great video. Thank You.
Thanks for sharing you knowledge and expertise!
Just have to say... you rock! You make this look so easy! Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much for your support!! I appreciate the feedback!
Absolutely Awesome Craftsmanship.
Great job, gentlemen, it looks great. High quality project.
That was a beautiful animation at the start.
Great Video. I really enjoyed how detailed you were in explaining the build. I am going to be building my own pavilion and I learned a lot from this video. Thanks for taking time out to do this!
Thank you very much! I appreciate your comments and wish you the best on your build! Cheers, Kent
Looks incredible. Buying a property and this will look great on it. Will buy plans soon when escrow closes!
Such a great pavilion and video.
I would love to build this from the mountain of cut down trees drying in the back of my acreage.
Excellence Personified
You have the best construction videos on TH-cam. Thanks for asking these videos!
Thank you so much!!
Effing AMAZINGGG! Y’all did a superb job
Thanks for publishing this! I never got around to thanking you for it because your building technique helped me build our simple pavilion. I used your joining method to create a 14x16 structure and it is ROCK SOLID. All because you shared! Thank you again! Bill in NM
Bill C, I”m planning to do something similar and am curious if you stuck with the 6x6 beams for the longer spans, or if you used something taller (and if so, by how much).
Michael S I used 8x8 for all beams because it looks better for what I built. Most timber yards can help you size beams for whatever your span is. Just give them a call.
Awsome looking! Really nice work! And thanks a ton for sharing the plans aswell! 2 thumbs up for sure 🙂
Great video....I'm planning to build similar this summer for the side of my patio, with simple roof.
most elaborate video ever!wow
Just beautiful!!!!!!
I'm planning on building a 4800 sq ft 2 1/2 story timber frame craftsman house soon, this looks like a good project to learn the skills on before I start on the house. Thanks!
Sketchup seems to be a really nifty application that maybe any of us can learn. Love this video and TimberFrame... so inspiring. Can't wait to get started, and Thanks!
Great.thank you. Loved it so much i purchased the plans
Love these videos. Thanks for sharing
The sketchup was very nice and the animations made it excellent. Gazebo looks really nice. Only thing that looks a bit odd to me are the why the concrete footings are so tall.
As good as it gets. Great job!
Awesome craftsmanship! Thank you for sharing. Stay safe and God bless.
Wow I am amazed
!!!This is absolutely beautiful!!!
Great great work fantastic. You are skills and explanation 👍
Здорово! Молодцы! Браво! Хочу такую же.
Love this video and all of your plans. Thanks for the DIY help and the inspiration! Great job!
As always, Great video and project! 👍👍👍
I bought your plan and modified it to fit a 14' x 10'. There were some liberties I took to modify the structure to fit my needs. Turned out amazing. Would never have been this nice without your plan. Thank you.
I'm so glad to hear that! You made my day! Cheers, Kent
Can I ask about how much you spent in building supplies?
Beautifully done. Keep up with the videos, you do quality work there as well. Also, I hope you get the opportunity to do an octagon gazebo, I would love to see that done. I want one with a fire pit in the center and an open cupola to let the smoke out, but keep everything dry.
Amazing work. I am greatly impressed!!!
best display video ever
I might not be able to build the same but this great video gives me an idea how to build in future. You makes it seem easy to build one.
What a great 3 dimensional video
the best teacher timber video I've seen in my life
Thanks! It's not true timber framing but, I tried to build it in that style. My thinking was that it might have a broader appeal.
I love this very nice workmanship, buitiful.
Beautiful, nice job!!
What a great job Kent. I cannot believe that anyone would give you a thumbs down,
amazing!
thanks for sharing
Great video. I'm building a pool cabana very similar to this. You answered my questions about the roof joinery. Gonna basically copy the video for the roof valley rafters. Thanks. I'll be able to do a better, more finished look
Thanks! All the best on your project!
WOW you made it look easy to build.
Great build ! You could have pre-built that roof structure on top of the piers first to save some ladder work, disassembled then stained before putting it back together on top of the post.
Very nice and beautiful and thx for such a detailed explanations and very awesome video, loved it
Well done, its very amazing explanation, you have covered every thing, its my first watch to your channel & I am gonna subscribe
Never seen someone use a mitre saw like that before. Great work!
Thanks!
Good job. Thanks for the lesson.
I love your animation. Fantastic! Those notches in the beams would be very labour intensive, but wow they would make the structure solid.
Thanks. The notches were not too bad to do. Fitting the rafters was the fiddly part.
Looks awesome! That design program looks killer too. I'm still in the dark ages with graph paper but works for me
Thanks! I still start everything on paper. That's not going away anytime soon.
An Incredible Job... Awesome Video . Thank You Sir...
Once again another great video! Keep up the great work!
Very nice work! Great craftsmanship and beautiful design!!
Nice.
That's beautiful
Another excellent job... Very informative. It's good to see neighbors helping neighbors.
Thanks 👍
It was amazingly done. I would like to build one now.
beautiful job...no need to say more....
Wow. Now that’s how to do a how to video!!! 🎉
thanks I am going to built in my backyard
Excellent build and presentation!
Sweet build!
excellent video learnt a lot from this will be attempting this build in the near future.
