To me it's my anxiety when I'm freestyling on a beat. But when I'm not on a beat, that anxiety goes away and the rap dictionary increases like 10 fold. It's the struggle of trying to end a rhyme that makes it hard.

Another tip for those trying to grow their vocabulary - don't abuse words! "Lyrical miracle" rappers tend to be seen more as trying too hard vs. being actually great writers.
That's not to say what Curtiss says isn't valid - you need to get used to an expanded vocabulary before you can implement unfamiliar words in your writing - so try to use them as often as you can... just to get a feel of when, and how, to use certain words, and in which contexts they fit in. If this means you have to write some overcomplicated bars, then have at it.
With practice, you can develop the skills necessary to make a broad lexicon sound natural. Most rappers can tell when bars are forced - so relax on the gas, take your time, experiment with new things, and remember to always practice!

Legit listen to Aesop Rock and try to decipher his tracks. He has the biggest vocabulary in the game, no one even gets close to his vocab. Other than that, using a thesaurus really helps expand words that you already use in your day to day.
