    This magnetic lock would be pretty cool with a fake keyhole. :D

    Maybe the magnetic lock with a fake key insert would be impenetrable, who would gess is magnetic?

    • @outseeker
      @outseeker 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Alejandro Tejeda i was thinking the same thing! if not for the shape on the side, you wouldn't even have any clue it was actually magnetic

    • @Knightyme
      @Knightyme 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Alejandro Tejeda I had one as a kid, so I knew on sight how to get in. And yes I could use the same method of breaking in even though I hade the magnetic key.

  • @edgeyt1
    @edgeyt1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    They should have put a dummy keyway into the magnetic lock, it would be truly unpick able.

    I've seen the magnetic lock all the way back to the late 70s when someone brought one to school. So they've been around quite a while. The mag key was the same shape then too.

      +lohphat I had one of the magnetic locks years ago also in the UK (80's maybe), looked very similar to the Chinese one, might have been the same make.

    Greetings Bill, Glad to see you got my box of weird locks. All this locks cost around 30$, I managed to open the magnetic as well, but not even remote chance for the rest.
    The devil in the box is supposed to be the smiley key (the lock with blue ribbon). I was told that the local manufacturer is offering reward of 50,000rmb (7500$ us) if someone manage to pick it.
    I spend hours on the combo lock... it costs 3-4usd and I could not find a way to bypass it...
    Good luck and thanks.

    Hey Bill, I have a lock just like that magnetic one at the end! I've had it for years, I also took the side plate off of it and looked at the mechanism. Definitely very easy to spoof as you did. Awesome seeing another lock just like mine.

    You should get a sheet of magnetic field viewing film to investigate some of these magnetic locks! That might be too easy bit it would be super interesting once you get it open!

    • @lordsqueak
      @lordsqueak 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Logic Bob I'm thinking these kinds of locks have alternate s/n n/s pins, so that some pull, others push.

  • @daisyruin
    @daisyruin 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Maybe a single sparrows magneto in a sock rather than the little ones? Looks like you could probably rock open some of those laser etched finger locks. A feeler for the combo lock if the shims don't work? And maybe, just maybe, we've found a decent motorcycle lock from China? It's sort of a quest, isn't it?

  • @SA12String
    @SA12String 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a magnetic lock exactly like that State Grid for my bicycle back in the 70's. I tried everything to open it and never had success with anything but the intended key. I've never seen one like it until now. Really brings back memories.

    magnets may open the lock but after a while the original mag key will stop working because your magnets will change the polarization inside enough to ruin the lock.

    the mag locks have been around for years, I first saw those style of locks when I was about 12 or 13 years old, I am 43 now, most of the time a good strong bar type magnet will open them, all you are doing is pulling on the locking pawl with the magnet in most cases. that is the first time I have seen one in years though. the other locks look cool though.

    Have not seen one of those magnet locks in decades. The way you opened it was how we use to open them or a large hammer One of the main things to remember, is not to hang your keys near your wallet. They would demagnetize your credit cards. Luck on those other ones.

  • @send9

    Very cool. I have a thing for Asian locks; so much variety and imagination in design, even if the quality isn't always the best (but I do have some very nice ones!). I have one of those plunger keyways in a padlock (the one with multiple nubs on the key), and I would love to see if you can figure out how it works. I can see that it has a spring inside and is perhaps a warded lock, but I am not sure.

  • @jackjones7532

    Like the different locks especially the disc brake lock. I have seen that mechanism on some padlocks I have from UAE and worked out a solution so will be interesting to see how you get on with it.

    I'm not a beginner or anything. I've been following your channel for quite some time now and I always find your videos very enjoyable.
    This is another story. It looks like you always pick locks you know how to pick... American/European. but when you get a real challenge, you go for the easiest one. what a shame.

  • @t1hero
    @t1hero 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had the magnetic style lock as a kid (25 years ago at least), you can bump it with a hammer, just give it a whack to jolt the magnets inside while pulling.

  • @jeffk204
    @jeffk204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another awesome video. Can't wait to see the rest.
    I wonder if you bought a sheet of magnetic viewing film and used that to identify where the magnets are on the lock and then lined up corresponding magnets and flip flopped them until you got the right polarity if that would work. Although zipping the magnets back and forth worked pretty quick (the magnetic equivalent of zipping or raking), using viewing film and placing the magnets one by one would be the same as SPP,.

  • @scorchedearth1451
    @scorchedearth1451 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have such magnetic lock, and opened it several times.
    You only need one magnet. It's not that precise.
    Just take them magnet with the lock in one hand.
    This way you can pull it, while moving the magnet in your hand a little.
    The magnets don't need to be on that keyway. Just near it.
    I believe there only 5 magnets in that key, so there not that much combinations.

    • @Kris-T83
      @Kris-T83 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah John, I managed to open it with only two magnets placing it on second and fourth position.

    • @scorchedearth1451
      @scorchedearth1451 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kris Tomov
      The positions don't really matter. Just rotate the magnets randomly in your hand while pulling on the lock like Bill did, and the locking mechanism goes nuts inside.

    I had that magnetic lock on my locker in school 40+ years ago. It didn't have the Chinese writing on it. For magnetic locks look on EBay for 'magnetic viewing film' . Lets you see the magnetic fields. Probably only useful on the key. But there may be some residual magnetism on the lock you might be able to see. I got the film but I don't have a magnetic lock anymore LOL .

    BosnianBill - a short while ago you mentioned issues with Storm Lock Picks and their lack of communication. I had order a couple picks from them as well and had the same issue. Absolutely no communication from them. No email responses or shipping notices or anything. Well today USPS delivered the picks I had ordered from them. I had no idea they were even coming. 3 month's time from order date to delivery. I'm guessing this is just their way of doing things there.

    • @jackjones7532
      @jackjones7532 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I live in the UK and their delivery times here to can be sporadic. As all the picks are hand finished I don't think they don't hold much stock so,it takes to get them done.

    • @charlierackett895
      @charlierackett895 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jack jones believe me I get that, totally. But at least some communication would be nice. from the date of purchase to the date of delivery was nothing. not even an email to say it's been shipped. the picks are very nice looking though, that's the one plus.

    you could use a compass to check the magnets and their polarity in the key. course that would be cheating but it would help on the next one. it might tell you something on that round key also.

    Just to be pedantic for a sec - you keep pointing out "laser cut" elements on keys that haven't actually been laser cut; they've been CNC milled. You can see the swirly pattern at the bottom of the cut from the tip of the endmill.
    Nicely done with that magnet lock, though! Can't wait to see you take on some of those other locks.

    I have a combination lock just like that one but i have forgotten the code, while the lock was in the unlocked position. I hope your future video will be helpful.
