Gotta say that it really is hard to find privacy focused TH-camrs that can be trusted. As far as I’m concerned, there’s a fine line between channels that fill you in on the fine details vs instil fear. Channel that comes to mind is Rob Bradman Tech. Dude seems extremely knowledgeable, and I don’t doubt that he is, but hate that he tries to sell his own hardware VPN and phones that he installs custom roms on. Also makes a lot of those wild and unproven claims pretty frequently so I’m glad you’re more straightforward without pushing fear with “evil Facebook” or whatever it may be.
I’ll just leave my opinion here. Leaving all of the privacy and security stuff behind I’ve not heard someone talk so much sense in what feels like years. Thank you for making this video and hope it helps a lot of people.
I am not kidding but if I would've seen that thumbnail on a video I wouldn't have clicked if it wasn't for you. Because after watching Techlore for quite a long time I can trust this channel to not be clickbait .
As much as I used to enjoy The Hated One, I feel his channel is fragmenting the community a lot with the extremism and bad takes. Techlore has always had a very level-headed approach to Security and Privacy and the understanding that AVERAGE users do not want to solve 8 CAPTCHAs on Tor just to Google a dog breed their Aunt Sally had. That would be the quickest way to discourage average users from embracing privacy, which is the opposite of what we need these days. The more people we can educate about Security and Privacy (even if it's just a little), the higher the chance that they become intrigued, do their own research, come to their own conclusions, and hopefully can then spread the message to other average folks, snowballing the effect. I feel Techlore has always had similar intentions at heart and that's what's so great about this channel. 👍🏻
I see you as one of the most trustworthy of the several privacy/security TH-camrs I follow. The others are pretty good too, but you seem to explain things more thoroughly.
I also want to add, particularly about this video, the approach on “avoid extremes”, “search for different sources” and “promote a health and thoughtful” discussion on any given subject is of utmost importance. More so in this day and age where many subjects are sort of prohibited to speak about. So, all in all, it should not apply only to technology and privacy. Cheers, mate.

It's funny that I thought I recently heard in the news that Estonia was advising people not to use certain brands of Chinese phones, including a model of OnePlus phone, because they found spychips in them. But when I looked it up, it was actually Lithuania, who were advising members of their government to abandon some brands of Chinese phones due to pre-installed software that had a disabled feature which is designed to block certain words and phrases, which could be activated remotely at any time. And OnePlus wasn't included in the advisory, and neither were spychips. Not sure if I got some mental wires crossed, or maybe someone else did. Or a little of both.
On the upside, I learned some interesting things about Estonia in my search. They have apparently been teaching the public about good cyber security since 2008, through programs in schools among other things. But it makes sense. Apparently 99% of their government services are available online.
Still never heard anything about Google having spychips in their phones. I don't think they'd need chips anyway. They have their fingers in most of the software ecosystem for Android. I'm not saying it's out of character for Google though. Other than the fact that they'd probably need to legally disclose the existence of the chips, similarly to what they have to do for their online services. (In the small print, of course. Hidden by a metaphorical coffee stain.)

I was really thrown off balance when I saw this video announcement. I take techlore very seriously, and also I had an emotional day. And I have no fuel because I am in England and everybody is fuel hoarding here. And when your car is useless, you just feel exactly how much you depend on it. And I don't know when I will be able to drive somewhere, because the closest three fuel stations are also out of fuel and I cannot reach any further. So great.

I have to say, as much as I understand and sometimes agree with the more extreme sides of the pro-privacy community, frequenting the pro-privacy corners of Odysee and Mastodon becomes very tiring very quickly for this exact reason.
I really liked this video, because it itself proved to me the point of the video. I clicked this thinking this is a very clickbait-y title, and I was going into it expecting a pretty bad take on privacy. I found instead a quite nuanced take on the matter. I still don't particularly like clickbait, but I think it can be used in clever ways and I wanted to give props to Techlore here - because this was a good example of that!
I'm studying cyber security in uni and when I saw the thumbnail I first thought "this guy is getting a dislike" but I ended up dropping a sub by the end of the video instead, keep up the good content
i really enjoy that Techlore gives his community the facts and is neutral in his approach. I don’t ever feel forced to do something after his videos because Techlore gives the viewers the option of making that decision. Thank you Techlore for all you do
I really like your attitude to this subject. I'm one of those people who doesn't succumb to baseless misinformation. By using my existing technical skills and by investigating multiple sources I try to ensure that my understanding is valid and informed.
man, I do recall Protonmail saying they don't log. The problem today is people say things tongue-in-cheek, and rarely mean anything they say. So no logging unless we are forced to reveal the logs we never had. But since that's all hidden in the small print, don't worry about that. I'm skeptical so I never went for that. Same with VPNs who claim they don't log. Privacy stops with you. Start your own services. I agree with most of your points. It'd be nice.. we'll get there eventually.
My feedback is very positive. The privacy community needs more people like you. Just to give an example, let's face it: many users need Windows or just don't want to change to Linux. The typical paranoid privacy pure-FOSS advocate will just shum this user and say his privacy is hopeless until he changes his mind, and will shum the user too if he chooses Ubuntu or Mint (and also for not saying GNU/Linux) A pragmatic privacy (and security overall) advocate, actually trying to help, knows there are different risk profiles, privacy and security are neither perfect nor useless, and that there's much one can do to mitigate risks in Windows, for free, with minimal hassle. Please keep doing these informative videos, people must realize that safeguarding their data and personal information is not rocket science.
What made me interested in privacy was "Hey, if I'm blocking invasive ads, then why I'm letting Google take my data for ads that I don't see?". The only thing I don't block is things like TH-cam algorithms, because it's the only one that actually works from my perspective.
Thank you for this, I fell for this a few times.. Not trusting your email service doesn't mean privacy isn't at the user's discretion, *you just can't trust them.*
Tor is only as safe as how you use it. This should be common sense. Proton is a company and is beholden to court orders. Trusting companies is always risky. But Signal? Im always going to be against it until they dont require a phone number. The average user isn't going to mess around with burner numbers and Voip numbers.
Protonmail 'logs' user data for some time (two weeks, or so they claim?) and is located... in Switzerland. If you are naive enough to "trust' that, then you don't know how the "intel inside" world (let alone the monetary, etc.) works. As they say: "Follow the money..." (to the BIS, or IH$ Templar Intel.) and get your OWN VPN router and/ or say a Netgear M-1 Router and "pay cash" for SIM card(s) if you want to be more 'private.' That 'hacker' wasn't very savvy. (Probably 'groomed' and then hung- out to dry by Interpol, or US, etc. (Free)masonic, intel?)
The AI (drones...) 'blocked' my second post? Oye Vedic... Amun Ra? Cabal+ Al + lalah?? Some interesting posts about bees, vs. flies: The 'goat,' on Twit: "Bee's don't waste their time explaining to flies that honey, is better than shit..." And from the "Dis + $i plus dent" film: And what about "the bees," to paraphrase: "They love their nation... and will defend it... with HONESTY, and TRUTH..." Also: "He knew that once you're afraid to talk about your opinion... to criticize anyone... then there IS NO freedom, of speech!" And: "Say your WORD... and walk away..." Astute, advice! Great movie, very revealing... and timely. And I'll add, to that: Trust noone online... and as they say: "Keep your powder, dry." (At least here, in the US...)
I’m an exec at a tech company. Here’s my privacy tips. Have at least 2 bank accounts at different banks. 1 use for everything online. 2nd for physical purchases & mortgage or important big payments. Ideally that would be your 3rd account. Have a separate sim/phone for all your social media & internet accounts. Private phone for work & family/close friends, no free/social apps allowed on this phone. Emails only via computer. Every device must have a VPN service. No Alexa, no Siri. Ever. No cloud, only backup to private server. Smart home must be backed to private server not company, possibility to override to physical access. Share private matters in person, phones away, airplane mode on. Don’t sleep with phone near your pillow, the signals are strong enough to cause health risks.
I’m interested in the reasons people clicked on this video. Would anyone like to share? I would probably have watched this regardless of the title and thumbnail. There is extra curiosity when relatively trusted sources resort to clickbait, but that alone doesn’t dictate my response. The risk level of the platform it’s on is also a factor, and so is the perceived likelihood of the source using clickbait for a somewhat legitimate purpose. I would guess that a lot of Techlore subscribers feel similarly, and would not necessarily respond to clickbait from the majority of other sources.
At this point it's best to call anybody ignorant about privacy an exhibitionist, which is slightly correct and will definitely get attention to open a conversation. Summer 2022 pick-up line: "You're exposed! Are you an exhibitionist?" Consider the divide and conquer giving dating apps more ways to discern/discriminate, ever more including questionable kinks and fetishes.
I use uBlock Origin (on Firefox) and I don't care about its effect on privacy. I've never heard that it has any bad effects on privacy. I simply don't want to see adverts on TH-cam. Ever. I freely donate to videomakers I care about. Just saying.
TL:DR I Like this channel, yet im degoogling my self. My gate keeping approach is mine, still I like to hear other opinions. Im feed up with YT and google ecosystem and its policy; Im aware that to be completely save and private I should basically pull the plug, go full nomad (not possible) Im on a road to degogle my self totally. It is a long process to be self hosted with everything beside domain. Yet i will not fight with people who would not do this, its stupid and childish to do so.
I’m just learning how to implement some of these things into my life and your video is on point. There is so much information out there and it’s really hard to know who to trust. I personally just want the information and I’ll decide if it’s right for me. I appreciate your approach.
This isn't a fair response. ProtonMail also claims that open sourcing the server would not provide any advantage to the greater community at large. This is how they defend their position as maximally secure. I can show you private messages from lead devs and admins on this. This position is not one you can maintain. If it was open sourced, I could legally self-host ProtonMail with a warrant canary in the United States and incur the liability they reject. I could also choose to incur additional liability by refusing to log IP addresses at the behest of government. ProtonMail argues their platform is as secure as it would be if it was open source, despite having fewer eyes looking at it and having a rather selfish policy when it comes to privacy which you're dodging with "they're a company".
I unfollow over dramatized sources. I notice on youtube they are allowed but not non paradigm truths. By the way Good Job! Also the reason the fear mongering if promoted is a Churchill stated" the virginity of truths are hidden in the skirts of lies" or something to that end.
Off topic, but I think this also the case when discussing spirituality and religion. I can get called an evil sinner only so many times before I'm like 'okay.'
Give credit where it's due regardless of your personal bias. I have also seen similar reactions in social gathering when I demonstrate that etc product/company is good at xyz but i personally hate it xd.
I don't get that feeling. Rob relays great info and can be very passionate about it, but never sensationalist as far as I can tell. And regarding the Proton situation, I'm sure I remember him explaining the situation thoroughly. He still recommends Proton, but even more he recommends that you use it wisely, and, of course, not to do anything illegal.
Braxman is pretty extreme. He's often not really wrong but you certainly get the feeling that the world is ending every time you watch one of his videos. It doesn't exactly help that he got sponsored by Startpage and won't talk about it objectively anymore and that he heavily advertises his own services with his fear mongering and because of that refuses to compare competing products in a fair and helpful way. All of his videos feel a bit like this: "Everything s(/z)ucks, we are being surveilled 24/7, there is little you can do except for browser isolation, device isolation, not using any social media accounts and using my services" You have to take his videos with a big grain of salt. They can be rather interesting but the way he frames everything can be quite counterproductive.
@@BurgerKingHarkinian Yeah, and that's all I meant -- that the onscreen text seemed to be aimed at him. He does discuss a lot of good topics and I think he knows his stuff but everything is apocalypse-level to him. I'm not sure a normie could possibly exist in the rule set Braxman proposes. Hell, I couldn't and I broadly know the issues. Oh, and have you heard that he runs a VPN and sells de-Googled phones? :-)
@@TheRedneckPreppy Yup to almost everything you said. Funnily enough, I don't think he ever said anything in the click bait thumbnail. He doesn't trash talk tor, I think. (He would be sabotaging his own business as well, if he did) He openly said that he uses Signal for family. Well.. Regarding Proton.... I was writing a paragraph in his defense here as well but the more I thought about it, I had to admit, that he did in fact actually thrash them unfairly at points. Not everything he said was false, far from it but some points were overly negative towards Proton that apply to any messenger or email provider. But no, I NEVER heard that he sells de-Googled phones or has his own VPN! :O 🤯
Excellent common sense approach for your videos. I would love to see a comparison video on Calyx OS on a Pixel and iOS 14 on an iPhone regarding privacy and security. I am a subscriber to Rob Braxman, and he had me that worried about Apples privacy, i bought a Google Pixel and installed Calyx OS with Micro g enabled. He is great, but very extreme. Given there are still not a lot of videos on Calyx, i would love to see Techlore do this video comparison, please.
Calyx is wayyy better for privacy than Apple, but if you’re still going and installing super invasive apps on calyx then it can be worse. Generally it’s the third party Apple apps that do most of the tracking
Question: What if a person makes a privacy app for files pictures documents but person has the app to them self an set up the privacy for it???? Just a thought
I understand that privacy should be a given human right, but if people are really that bothered by a service helping authorities catch a criminal, then I think some people's priorities need to be checked lol. I understand skepticism when those actions violate the policy or claims that the company uses to sell their product, but there seem to be a small (likely just vocal) group of people in this community that get really upset that these companies won't protect them if they do something illegal.
The problem is most data has nothing to do with law. They sell your data around to make YOU the product. There have also been cases of people wrongfully imprisoned, fired from their job, or had their face/likeness used for advertising. Hackers, data breaches, and many other scammers online that purposefully try to get hold of your information to fuck you over. The idea that you’re not doing anything wrong, so it doesn’t matter, is flawed, because your data is being collected for uses outside of just law itself. Even regarding law, there have been states that have banned abortions recently. Places in the world that are anti-LGBT. Places like China that are super oppressive to their online users. Law changes, and law is not always enforced or enforced correctly. Privacy should be a human right. The faith in government to protect your rights or you as a person is laughable. History has shown us many countries/governments that have gone against basic human rights. That could happen to any country.
Its great for Digital Forenic Viral Or Malware Isolating for Reverse compiling with minimal risks. The multishelled sunboxed Password protected environment enabled multiple layers of protection between the system and potentially infectious digital agents.
i couldn't agree more with what you said in the entire video, but there is a big window which allows any misinformation to spread like forest fire shortage of time and poeple reading only headlines what's more prablamatic than a clickbait is people who read them and share them without knowing the entire truth, even tho the clickbait article will contain truth mixed with lies, the human eyes works on principle of what you see is what you get, and hence people who spread it are far more potentially problamatic than actual headline That's my opinion
Extremism is an issue that cannot be pointed out too much. I wish more people thought with their brain instead of relying on others’ and stop supporting one sides extremely as if they are a football team.
Good video I like your aprotch. Would be cool to see you develop the idea of threat models. Maybe we could create some sort of level system, for example: basic, protection against crime. Medium: get out of spying corporations and information trading. Advanced: avoid government and intelligence agencies. This way it wold be easyer to see what I need to do to reach the level of privacy I feel comfortable with.
Normal people can not be able keep up with the most extreme solution to the privacy problem, it will only make fewer people care about privacy since they can not do anything about it, taking a moderate approach will help more people care about privacy and can help people from getting paranoid for the simple issue and they might try to avoid good services that are easy for them for something more difficult to use which make them tired and make them use services they are trying to avoid in the first place
All people are not supposed to be doing all the things unless we're training all the people to do all the things some people will gravitate towards their thing if left unsupervised which is the problem
This video is just good advice. We will never be 100 percent secure its just life. Personally I use an external ssd with Linux on it for banking only. I use an external ssd with windows for my windows stuff, google stuff on chrome browser only. I try to keep these folks locked in their own ecosystems as much as possible. I also look at things and state opinions that are totally opposite of what I feel and believe. Have some fun with these spying creeps. Lol
You can because you are using different hard drives for each scenario. It's easier especially if you need to go back and forth to have more computers. @@NoMoreInfo4You
My problem with the proton issue isn’t so much proton mails stance, but the user that was impacted. Being an activist is now more dangerous depending where you live.
5:00 what if they just do banking on a VM, on their regular device... it's all in the browser right? And not like someone can find your info stored by the banking by using your ip.
The real problem with clickbaits is not if they work or not: this is only a concern for ppl who depends on clicks, followers, numbers in general. And ofc, that insane need for clicks is only a high conditional and particular state of living, wich is working and earn money through internet. If you are not dependent ofc clicks means nothing. And if you ARE an youtuber, the so called an "influencer", carying if clickbaits working in life or not, is not that such people is being so cientific rather than just studying his own bussiness selfshly as possible. Is not that different as studying if lying beutifully on peoples face generates money, ofc it can lead to that, but the influencers never go there and make a video about, "lie to ppl, enslave them, and make your living with it' although its precisely what has been done with social media in general.

We're glad you liked it! Happy to have your subscription.
i really enjoy that Techlore gives his community the facts and is neutral in his approach.
The typical paranoid privacy pure-FOSS advocate will just shum this user and say his privacy is hopeless until he changes his mind, and will shum the user too if he chooses Ubuntu or Mint (and also for not saying GNU/Linux)
A pragmatic privacy (and security overall) advocate, actually trying to help, knows there are different risk profiles, privacy and security are neither perfect nor useless, and that there's much one can do to mitigate risks in Windows, for free, with minimal hassle.
Please keep doing these informative videos, people must realize that safeguarding their data and personal information is not rocket science.
MUCH LOVE TO THIS PRECIOUS CHANNEL ❤
What made me interested in privacy was "Hey, if I'm blocking invasive ads, then why I'm letting Google take my data for ads that I don't see?". The only thing I don't block is things like TH-cam algorithms, because it's the only one that actually works from my perspective.
I rolled my eyes when i saw this thumbnail, but im glad i watched it. It was very informational.
You said you hate google, apple and facebook--you are speaking my language yet remaining objective. Liked, subbed, etc., ty!!
Thanks so much for the tip!
Stumbled this channel at random… watched a few videos in a row. What a great content. Subscribed.

Yes! Remove the numbers!
@@TatsuHolly Consider Session. It's a fork of Signal, without phone numbers, zero trust.

The thumbnail was so over the top, I almost didn’t watch. But I love your videos and the work you do so here I am. Thanks!
At this point it's best to call anybody ignorant about privacy an exhibitionist, which is slightly correct and will definitely get attention to open a conversation.
Summer 2022 pick-up line: "You're exposed! Are you an exhibitionist?"
Consider the divide and conquer giving dating apps more ways to discern/discriminate, ever more including questionable kinks and fetishes.
Well put. I totally agree. Thank you. Subscribed.
This can be applied to mainstream news media as well…. Not just tech….
Agree with your hate list. Would add Microsoft as well
You're talking about tech and privacy but what you're saying applies to everything at the moment
I think I speak for the whole community saying that your content is good enough that you don't need to do the click baitiy thumbnails
Should we use ad blockers on our web browsers? Are they good for our privacy.
Im feed up with YT and google ecosystem and its policy; Im aware that to be completely save and private I should basically pull the plug, go full nomad (not possible)
Im on a road to degogle my self totally. It is a long process to be self hosted with everything beside domain.
Yet i will not fight with people who would not do this, its stupid and childish to do so.
Tank You for taking the time to put everything in perspective. :-)
The interesting thing is, with Swiss Law they can log your email, but not VPN traffic.
You do an awesome job!!!!! Thanks So Much!!!!! I am learning ALOT.
I’m just learning how to implement some of these things into my life and your video is on point. There is so much information out there and it’s really hard to know who to trust. I personally just want the information and I’ll decide if it’s right for me. I appreciate your approach.
Well said. Keep up the great work you do!
You guys are doing an excellent job....don't change a thing!
Professional production! Keep up the professionalism!
Sir, you have just earned my subscription. This was a suprisingly informative and well argued video.
I unfollow over dramatized sources. I notice on youtube they are allowed but not non paradigm truths. By the way Good Job!
Also the reason the fear mongering if promoted is a Churchill stated" the virginity of truths are hidden in the skirts of lies" or something to that end.
Excellent video. I really like your approach to security and privacy. Keep up the great work!
Amen!! Thanks for bringing this up! Been bothering me for a long time.
Like u a lot, logic dances in ur words! Hard to see someone this rational and cool nowadays.
Nice clickbait video though
Off topic, but I think this also the case when discussing spirituality and religion. I can get called an evil sinner only so many times before I'm like 'okay.'
Give credit where it's due regardless of your personal bias. I have also seen similar reactions in social gathering when I demonstrate that etc product/company is good at xyz but i personally hate it xd.
Why do I get the feelng at least some of this was directed towards Braxman.
I slightly got that feeling, too.
All of his videos feel a bit like this: "Everything s(/z)ucks, we are being surveilled 24/7, there is little you can do except for browser isolation, device isolation, not using any social media accounts and using my services"
You have to take his videos with a big grain of salt.
(He would be sabotaging his own business as well, if he did)
He openly said that he uses Signal for family.
I recently found your channel and I am hooked. Thank you for bringing awareness!
Bravo,thank you
You are so freaking good, love you guys!
Yep. Every word.
I feel for the clickbait and was confused lol
Question:
What if a person makes a privacy app for files pictures documents but person has the app to them self an set up the privacy for it????
Just a thought
I remember the whole signal thing beacuse of mobile coins etc.
Simple solution. Don't use the mobile coins feature.
Google may be known for security, but most definitely not privacy.
I like your balanced philosophic approach
This channel is one of a kind just shows how much clickbait their is
I understand that privacy should be a given human right, but if people are really that bothered by a service helping authorities catch a criminal, then I think some people's priorities need to be checked lol.
The multishelled sunboxed Password protected environment enabled multiple layers of protection between the system and potentially infectious digital agents.
i couldn't agree more with what you said in the entire video, but there is a big window which allows any misinformation to spread like forest fire
shortage of time and poeple reading only headlines
what's more prablamatic than a clickbait is people who read them and share them without knowing the entire truth, even tho the clickbait article will contain truth mixed with lies, the human eyes works on principle of what you see is what you get, and hence people who spread it are far more potentially problamatic than actual headline
That's my opinion
Extremism is an issue that cannot be pointed out too much. I wish more people thought with their brain instead of relying on others’ and stop supporting one sides extremely as if they are a football team.
2:27 what's a good way to compile news together?
I know somewhat how to have multiple search engines, but not news.
Good and balanced. Thank you.
Well argued summary. Hope polarizers persisted to persuasion!
So should I delete Proton or not? I just installed it yesterday, I might have made a mistake?
All people are not supposed to be doing all the things unless we're training all the people to do all the things some people will gravitate towards their thing if left unsupervised which is the problem
Amazing speaker! Thanks!
No saving logs is supposed to mean no saving logs. Nobody in Gov can access them if there are no logs stored.
I'm glad I was clickbaited into this video!
This is going to be one of the few times that I can accept getting clickbaited.
Appreciate the info.
The only way to have complete privacy, is to live off grid. I mean totally. No connection to outside world totally. 😅😅😅
Lol
Do you do all of that on one computer???
You can because you are using different hard drives for each scenario. It's easier especially if you need to go back and forth to have more computers. @@NoMoreInfo4You

I love the way you explain Techlore's standpoint and approach to content creation.
Great title and thumbnail, thanks ;-)
