Yeah I wanted an e2ee, open source and with formatting like *bold* _italic_ and stuff like that. I really did a lot of searching and never found Notesnook until a few months alter thanks to Techlore. Until then, I was using Signal’s note to self for the thing with formatting needed, and Standard Notes for the rest

I used to use NextDNS and watched your NextDNS configuration video!
I ended up switching to Control D last month since I got the deal for $40 for 5 years of Control D, and I absolutely enjoy it more than NextDNS, especially since it supports Hagezi’s TIF, and reasons such as how the folks at NextDNS seem to be fine with keeping a bunch of 2-4+ year old inactive filter lists while not listening to the community who want them to add Hagezi’s TIF filter list!

@@techlore What about Android custom ROMs? What are the drawbacks, aside from being locked to narrow group of phones like Google Pixels? I've watched some of your previous videos, but they might be outdated now.
As lifetime desktop user, I find it ridiculous that phones basically don't belong to their 'owners' and prevent from uninstalling some of preinstalled apps, and that's only tip of iceberg. New phones offer "AI" features, which almost certainly just send stuff to "the Cloud", making the whole situation worse than ever before.

What's the point of recommending *Ente Auth* if you also recommend a password manager? Surely any reputable password manager that tracks a login and password for an account is going to also let you generate the next TOTP code associated with it? It sounds very tedious to me to have to enter login+password from one app, and the code from a different app. The password manager I use will fill all 3 fields if you activate it on a login form (username + password + TOTP code), and I can't imagine using a password manager that doesn't even do that.

    • @techlore
      @techlore  หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Ha, we actually get some debates over this on our forum :) I don't think either option is *wrong* and if you're using a reputable password manager with unique passwords with TOTP inside the same app you're not really missing out on anything substantial. *BUT* just out of principal the concept of 2FA is to introduce something you 'have' in combination with something you *know*. Keeping them in a different place (especially if one is offline entirely) adds an additional step of security, but not one that's likely to ever make a real impact. For me I've always kept them separate and it feels weird to keep all credentials for every account in the same place and it feels too centralized to my liking. That + the principal of keeping them different things is why I use them. However, unless you have a crazy sophisticated threat this is unlikely to ever be the reason an account of yours wasn't broken in to. The most likely scenario is a password gets breached, and having 2FA in your password manager will still prevent that scenario. So yeah, keep rocking it! No correct answer here as long as you understand the pros/cons of your workflow!

I’ve been using Wipr since it came out on iOS and MacOS for years! I always get 100% on Adblock tester on safari when using Wipr alone, but I recently got the AdGuard Premium Lifetime deal on stacksocial this summer and just like how I can add custom filters and blocklists (e.g. Hagezi, OISD, TIF, etc.) on AdGuard Premium. I still have Wipr installed on both iOS and MacOS just because it’s so small and efficient (less than 3mb) :)

I can’t use Firefox as my main browser because Firefox on iOS still doesn’t support any adblocking filters nor custom filter lists, so even though I have a custom DNS service configured with Hagezi Ultimate, OISD Full, and TIF, it doesn’t completely get rid of the cosmetic ads that uBO and browsers such as Vivaldi, Brave, and Safari support on iOS.
I don’t know why Firefox for iOS won’t even add a default adblocking filters list or custom filter lists; practically every other iOS browser supports filter lists, so why can’t Firefox?
There’s even this browser made by Kagi Search called Orion browser for iOS and MacOS, that actually supports installing full-on Firefox and Chrome extensions, including uBO.
I know that Firefox on Android supports extensions such as uBO, but after trying Android on various high end devices over the last decade, I still don’t like Android and won’t switch to it.

Logged out of both apps & later logged back in - a complete pain as you have to enter email & password or email & get code. Now it has lost my MS account token on the phone. I then try desktop app & it says I have no account & I must register as a new user. Deleted account as complete junk & impractical way to log in.

      1. Maybe he doesn't need it
      2. He was probably just showing what can be blocked for non tech savvy people.

To expand: having boundaries with my tech is the directly healthy thing. Lots of assumptions made with your comment

There is a lot of information out there regarding what happens to you when you watch and masturbate to porn. It is not healthy, nor is it conducive to building real relationships with people. Try abstaining from porn and masturbation, and instead, try building a relationship with a real person, if not then you go ahead and do you, and the rest of us will do us. ❤

How is it not healthy? I don’t watch porn, haven’t since high school, nor do I care for it at all. I just hate those pop ups and malicious links that end up spamming you with cam girls/only fans, so I block those things via DNS and uBO.

Have been working with IT for 30+ years, with security as a central part, I think there is a big problem with videos like this one. You can not be sure if he work for a sponsor or he have investigated and found the best solution. He is not wrong in many ways, but pretty easy to see where he have a sponsor on his back, In fact it have become a trend that people from EU dont believe a word said by any youtubers from USA. All you lies means that it is easier to believe people from EU, where lying is not the default. Sad because in the past many people from USA was among the smartest in many area, but these days these people just disappears among youtubers less smart, but good lying just to get a sponsor. .

Super valid concerns! We're careful with this and take it very seriously, trust is everything. Sponsors are always clearly labeled (as in this video, which Notesnook is the *only* sponsor). Some of the other products have an affiliate link which is labeled in the description and used alongside standard links. We have public criteria you can read to learn more about how this all works: discuss.techlore.tech/pub/sponsors-affiliates
If you have suggestions for us to make things better definitely shoot them over. I have yet to see a TH-cam channel implement protocols like this, so if we can make them even better would love to do that. But yeah, while a valid concern can assure you that there are never 'secret' sponsors or anything of that nature.
