Hi everyone thanks for visiting my channel I hope you were able to get that stubborn wash plate removed. If you need to clean your washer completely please go watch th-cam.com/video/aZHU325D3a4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uE790PNFSqmC6a8L
The easiest way to remove the wash plate: Pop the cap, remove the bolt, spray WD40 into the bolt hole, let sit for 20-30 min (have a beer or other refreshment), replace the bolt to where it begins tighten, back out bolt 1/4 turn, run a spin cycle. Remove bolt, lift out plate. Done
Thanks! Some 20 year old CLR did the trick for me. That was so frustrating. Thanks for the tips! Now I'm back to look for how to take out the tub. It seems just as stuck, though it's currently soaking in CLR.
Hi. Thanks for this video. It made me realize the wash plate was stuck due to rust. So I put some Evapo-Rust in the bolt hole, waited about an hour, and easily pulled the wash plate up. It might be worth mentioning Evapo-Rust in the video, as it does not produce caustic byproducts like other chemicals.
This video finally helped me get ours off. The WD40 + lightly tapping with a rubber mallet did it. I used some old weed Wacker string to route around the holes and pulled while lightly tapping.
I had a similar issue and couldn't remove the plate. I tried several methods, including WD40 and pulling it with a wire inserted in the three holes, among others. Finally, I purchased CLR and poured it with hot water, letting it sit for 2 minutes. I attempted to pull the wash plate again, but it didn't budge. Then, I ran a short washing program to clear out the CLR, and within less than 2 minutes, the plate came off by itself! I believe the combination of efforts contributed to this result, but I trust that CLR worked in my case. Good luck to everyone facing the same problem. Moving forward, I plan to do a deep cleaning with 2 cups of washing soda and 2 cups of borax every 3 months. Hopefully, it will help keep it clean!
Mine would not budge. I poured one pot of boiling hot water, waited about 30 mins, then started a normal wash with hot water and about 3 minutes into the wash, it popped right out!!!
Great video, thanks very much! I soaked the bottom of the tub in vinegar, waited an hour - no luck. I then used 3 portions of a wire hangar with hooks bent into them and hooked into the three holes in the center. No luck. Ran a Tub Clean cycle. No luck. I decided to take a break, poured more vinegar in the tub and let it sit overnight. The next morning, it popped right off.
My sister called me because her washer quit working, told me she believed something may have gotten between the drum and tub, spent an hour trying to get the plate off with no success. Tried running the washer with the bolt loosened to see if that would help it come loose and noticed that the motor was misbehaving. Removed the hall effect sensor, brought it home for testing, found out the Hb sensor is dead. Turning the motor while the washer was on its side, I did hear some odd noises coming from the tub, which means there are some things rolling around in there that need to be removed. When I return to my sister's place with the new sensor and hopefully get a positive result on the motor fix, I will try a few kettles worth of boiling water on the loosened bolt before starting a sanitary wash cycle and hope that will loosen the grime and rust on the splines enough to come off willingly. If my sister has CLR, I will give that a shot before upgrading to potentially unreasonable force. If it is still uncooperative, I will loop the steel cable under the plate, over my jack sitting on the 2x6 across the tub and hope it comes with minimal or no damage. If even hydraulic pulling fails, I'm out of ideas.
Tried the mallet, boiling water, soaking in vinegar, wd40, hooks through the holes and it wouldn’t budge. Then ran a short cycle and in 5 minutes it floated right off! I’d advise to keep an eye on it so you can pause the cycle as soon as it comes off & remove it before the spin kicks in. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the video and information. I did try all methods and unfortunately i was unable to remove the wash plate. The cap and bolt were easy. Nothing else worked. if I pulled any harder on the wash plate I'm certain something else would have broke. I cant even get off to replace the wash plate. I guess i trash the washer and buy a different brand once the dirt gets too bad. Thanks anyway.
Just run a clean cycle after taking out the bolt - it'll be floating within 5 minutes. I did add a cup of vinegar to the clean cycle. My drain pump wasn't working so I did have to bail out the water a second time. But sure beats the frustration of trying to get it out any other way.
This video was a godsend. I tried WD40 and the thing still wouldn't budge. I noticed some of the other comments said to let the tub clean run with the bolt holding the plate either loose or removed. I kept it loose, ran s tub clean for about 10 minutes and after it drained the plate lifted right up. I think a loosening agent and letting it run a little was the trick.
Improvised some picks with wire hangers. Several 4 letter words later it budged. I was thinking CLR… Think about a 90 day schedule to use the washing machine cleaner solid at the hardware store.
just a question, why does the washing machine make a hum when it puts water in, is it because of the weak flow of water from the tap? Advance thanks for your answer😊😊😊hope u reply i really need to know plssss😣
I tried all methods except blowdryer, drywall screws and air shims. Nothing, and I mean. NOTHING budged. Soo frustrating, clothes coming out of this machine covered in bits of crud. Will Def. NOT be seeking out LG appliances in the future.
Same. I've ran 15-20 cleaning cycles, wd-40/Kroil, baking soda and vinegar, CLR, injected air, used metal coat hangers as well as shoe strings to no avail. 😣
air bags great idea.. hot water and soft hammer. tap 100 times. tap top and sides be patient. hooks great... screws and slide hammer.. put vaseline or silacone grease on all threads and binding surfaces for next time. my big fight was with the spider.
May I suggest method #8- no special tools or additives needed. Loosen the bolt on top of the wash plate just slightly but do NOT remove it. Then just put your machine in wash cycle. The strong back and forth movement of the wash plate will loosen it naturally. I used my machine for a few days in this way. Finally I removed the bolt for another wash cycle and as the water was filling up, the wash plate just floated right off.
I have been tiring to get mine off for 3 days many washes, tried clr soak several hrs, nothing, nut blaster, several hours, i tried all the methods here except for the evapor rust tub cleaner, vinegar, run the washer without the bolt, tried the 2 hooks to pull it up each time, used the same as the Allen wenches with the vice grips and a turn the plate to tighten the wire to pull it off nothing happened it was so tight and nothing.
Numerous cleaning cycles, CLR, WD-40, baking soda/vinegar, boiling water, compressed air, coat hangers and shoes strings to pull. Nothing will work. I'm going to buy a new washing plate bc I'll have to destroy this one to hopefully remove it. I'd order the win bags but I'm done spending time, money, and energy. Need to wash clothes.
If you can get the air shim completely under the plate, you’re probably gonna have a better time. But if they’re sticking out, you’re adding resistance making it harder to remove the plate. I would think a hot wash cycle before might make it easier. Obviously a heat gun would be more effective than a hairdryer, but obviously you can burn yourself and that’s not good. Building a little jig with a 2 x 4 in nylon strap and a car tire scissor jack would potentially do it as well

Thank you for your tricks to get the wash plate unstuck!! I used the CLR/Boiling Water Combo!!
Fantastic!
i am currently working on a tool for this for all service techs and diyers, should be ready this spring
Awesome!
Anyway you can expedite that 😅
When it’s available let me know
Amen these are killing people. My back is hurting after trying to pull 😩 TY I'll be watching for it and buying
Did you get it done? I could use it :)
CLR worked for me in 10 seconds. Thank you, thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing! Yes the CLR is what did it for me too!
Yo question. Is it safe to use my washer without the little cap that covers the screw of the wash plate?
I wouldn’t recommend putting clothes in it without the cap as they could get caught and damaged.
GREAT JOB!!!
Thanks!
CLR did the trick. Thank you!

You saved me so much frustration, thank you!

I would let it sit for a few days with CLR or keep running cycles with the bolt off
@GuyTriesDIY Are you
Recommending CLR just in the bolt area or in the whole wash plate.
Just run a clean cycle after taking out the bolt - it'll be floating within 5 minutes. I did add a cup of vinegar to the clean cycle. My drain pump wasn't working so I did have to bail out the water a second time. But sure beats the frustration of trying to get it out any other way.
Thanks, I added some vinegar and started the tub clean cycle without the bolt and it floated up in less than 5 minutes.
These are a bane on washing machines as a whole!
Yes very bad design!

My only concern with doing this is the possibility of water leaking from where the bolt was. Did you have this problem?
Every single video “mine comes out easily” fuck all these vids 😂
Oh trust me it took a while at first. This was was a replacement
I'm with you on this! I have been trying for 2 days😅
Improvised some picks with wire hangers. Several 4 letter words later it budged.
I was thinking CLR…
Think about a 90 day schedule to use the washing machine cleaner solid at the hardware store.

Advance thanks for your answer😊😊😊hope u reply i really need to know plssss😣
Yes it could be due to that. Can check the water supply hoses and water pressure in the home.
I’m at a loss I’ve done all the tricks plus others I’ve found online it’s been 3 days and I cannot for the life of me get the wash plate off, help!
I tried all methods except blowdryer, drywall screws and air shims. Nothing, and I mean. NOTHING budged. Soo frustrating, clothes coming out of this machine covered in bits of crud. Will Def. NOT be seeking out LG appliances in the future.

If it’s really stuck especially a plastic whirlpool the air shims actually cracked the plate in half
air bags great idea.. hot water and soft hammer. tap 100 times. tap top and sides be patient. hooks great... screws and slide hammer.. put vaseline or silacone grease on all threads and binding surfaces for next time. my big fight was with the spider.

I can’t even get the 🤬 bolt out
Hey. Are you using a 10mm socket wrench or drill bit ?
Use impact driver, drill didn't work

Have you tried a rubber mallet? At this point can’t hurt to hit it pretty hard likely will want a replacement anyway.
Great video..! Right on time 👍🏽
I feel your pain man. I did the same. Finally I broke it out today and have to get gear pull tool to remove the gear tomorrow. This thing is nasty.
Sounds look like the right choice in your case but be careful!
I tried all those and it’s still stuck
I would try CLR and let it sit for a while and even add more if needed
@@GuyTriesDIY already did. Still no luck
my airbags won't go don't far enough. The video you linked is a different machine and doesn't even show how they did it.
Citric acid and a cycle with hot water and the wash plate popped off on its own
I still cannot get mine off!!!!
What have you tried? Did you try CLR? That’s what did to for me
@@GuyTriesDIYI tried rust dissolver. Over night too
Same here. It won't budge

What have you tried so far?
